It's your typical small provincial Mexican town complete with a church, plaza, and bustling town center.
It's can be a dizzy experience for the first timer so don't get overwhelmed. Take your time as you'll be asked about 290 times if you want to sample some Tequila. Once you take in the plaza and all the sights and sounds, make your way to the outer streets and corners escape from all the tourists and tour guides.
I made my way past some street vendors and ended up three side streets over and was extremely thankful to find a sign that read " Banos 5 Pesos ". This business was a Tequila sampling bar but offering bathroom services for about .25 cents.
I asked the very friendly bartender if she knew where I could go and relax, check on some emails, have a beer and grab a bite to eat. She was so kind to walk me next door to a hotel that a Pizzeria in the back. As I followed the young man passed several hotel rooms and to a back patio area with a stone earthed Pizza oven, I knew I was in the right place. Beautiful setting with peaked sunlight coming through the open air roof top and music jams playing in the tv monitor. I found an electrical outlet, plugged in my laptop and ordered a Modelo Especial, connected to the internet and as the French say, " Et Viola!"
The Pizzeria makes their signature pizzas as well as you can make your pizza.
I chose to make my own with cheese and meat and I have to admit the young man and the pizza chef gave me that look like, " Are you sure ????? ".
I ordered a pizza with Marinara sauce, chipotle peppers, jalapeños, mushrooms, and olives.
There's two sizes, normal - regular - or personal and large. I chose the regular and the pizza chef began to work her magic. She took the pizza dough out and began to massage it with all her love then added the ingredients.m and finally placed it in the oven.
Note - if you're looking for a blaze experience - this is not it. It took about 30-40 mins from start to finish so expect it to take some time. It was perfect for me since I had quite a bit of catching up to do.
My pizza arrived and was placed on a tree ring on top of a metal stand.
Suggestion - make sure to drizzle the chili oil and the chipotle sauce that are stationed in little jars around the metal stand. So good. You'll thank me later.
My pizza was hot and tasty. So good and was veganized.
My niece and wife were looking for me so I directed them to the hotel and they entered the pizzeria like Indiana Jones and Sallah entering the Well of Souls.
They each ordered their own pizza and enjoyed them immensely.
Such a cute little place to hide in the afternoon. Highly recommended. Curious to see how much of a night spot it would be? We'll have to find out!
