Best coach ever. Juan makes you feel super comfortable and confident coming into the gym. I don't know about you, but I was forced to go to the gym as a kid and I hated it. But later on in life, I really had to focus on getting healthier. I think it's really tough to find a gym and a personal trainer that deconstructs and reconstructs your view of working out and living a healthy life. First lets start with this. Training time with Juan is valuable because you don't find this level of instruction just anywhere. I can't say enough good things about Juan. He is an insightful coach keeping me focused on growing my technique. We've spent a lot of time adjusting the bad habits I've learned over the years just hitting heavy bags. Juan is the man. I had been wanting to get into boxing for some time and after reading the reviews on Yelp about him I decided to give him a call. He's super cool and helpful. He works you super hard but you can tell he cares a ton about your skill development. He breaks down each drill and technique down to the grain in order for you to learn it. Juan is an excellent and patient boxing coach. He constantly corrects your form, and gives you pointers as you hit the mitts. I had only boxed a couple of times since moving here a year ago, and I was wanting to get back into it. I saw Juan's reviews here, and decided to try him. I was "hooked," no pun intended immediately. I did a half hour one on one, to ease back in, and am signing up for more! Hoping to work up to an hour, as it is such a great workout. Trained a few times with Juan and had some great workouts. Really helps break down the technique but also makes you sweat everything out. He pushes you through the whole workout without sounding like a drill instructor so its still fun. He's pretty flexible with scheduling so its not a hassle to get in there. Also he has cat shirts. My friend recommended the kids boxing at American gym and said the instructor was really good and patient with the kids. My #1 concern was the dynamic between the coach and his students and if he was kind while stern, and a leader. I've seen places where they just don't know how to coach and work with kids and it's sad and frustrating. She wasn't wrong. Juan is attentive and makes sure the kids are behaving, treating each other with respect, learning the basic skills they need to, while having fun all at the same time. Ever since the boys started boxing a month ago, they are more focused in school as well and more patient with one another. Their self esteem is stronger than ever and they are enjoying exercising every Monday, Wednesdays and Thursdays. It also tires them out which is a plus for all moms and dads. Was instantly hooked after my first 1-on-1 session with Juan. He is a great instructor and pushes you when you feel like you can't hold your arms up any longer to punch. I love the combos and routines he makes up on the spot, the sessions fly by and you leave drenched in sweat without feeling like it was a workout at all. My boxing sessions with Juan are by far the most effective and most fun workouts I've had in a long time.
