For the entire week of our stay we would wake up and walk to the Gecko because their beach was cleaner than the Insotel's and the service/food was SO much better than the junk they had at our hotel. We tried to book a room at the Gecko so we could leave our hotel but unfortunately for us they were completely booked. The fact is it's not very big, but not very small either. Here's why: the majority of the space is occupied by the outdoor area, which is a really large lounge. There's no music playing outside but you can sit down and have drinks and hang out with friends and what not. You can also hear a little of what's going on inside, but you're probably going to want to go inside and get down so you can do that too. Inside is not a very large space at all. Not to mention there are tables that can be reserved inside (as well as outside) so it makes it even smaller when those people actually show up. But who cares?! Good tunes, and everyone is dancing and friendly and having a good time. No reason not to do the same. I can't speak to the drink prices because for some reason I didn't end up having to pay for any of mine. I doubt that will happen again so when i go back I will update this. I went for the opening party which was earlier this week and it was a blast. If you find yourself on the island at all this summer you should come here, though I don't think I'll have to beg you, because this place is very popular with the locals and with tourists as well.

Well…read morelucky for you, I was just here last night, having a drink at sunset and thought, hey have I written a review for one of my favorite places on the island? First of all, this place IS indeed difficult to get into. By the end of June it is reservations only for basically the entire day so call in advance so you can definitely get a seat. The place is a "chiringuito" but it's German style seating (the owner is German so that makes sense) so if you have a small group you may have to share a large table with another group. No problem. The entire point of the German style seating is you can talk to everyone! The food is great and it's really only a lunch place. People generally don't show up here to eat after like 6PM, but it stays packed until it closes after sundown. And what a sundown you get too! There are few places on earth where you can catch a sunset nicer than El Tiburon. As someone else mentioned, it's not a cheap place: it's located in the most popular part of Formentera (Ses Illetes) and regularly attracts celebrity clientele (Ruud Gullit was also there yesterday having lunch) which is why a reservations is quite necessary. If you don't have one, you can still order a drink at the walk up bar and then just sit on the beach and enjoy it. That's very much allowed too. DJ Lorenzo Al Dino is there spinning all the deep house and dance music you need on Wed and Saturdays and at sunset the place turns into a party on most evenings! It's a great vibe and a great time and one of the true Formentera staples. Get involved!

We had booked a table, and getting to this place wasn't easy. Maybe our expectations were high coming from the States, but with the prices here, you'd expect something more exciting. On the positive side, the sand floor gives a nice beach vibe, and the food quality was actually very good -- can't lie about that.
