Went in there today to get crickets not only did I pay over 7 dollars for 3 dz but it smelled horribly like urine and got a real bad headache I was only in there for 5 min. I have never seen a place so disgusting in my life! My wife and I went there to check out their fish and came away with nothing but this terrible review! The first observation we made was the horrible smell! Even with the big bay door open, the smell was awful! I can only imagine what it's like after being closed up for the night! The fish tanks were dirty and some were so cloudy that you couldn't even see the fish! A lot of the tanks were low on water and had dead fish in them. The small mammal cages/enclosures, were riddled with urine and feces! I'll always remember the look on a pair of Ferrets that we saw, and that was a look of; "please get us out of here!" Place is a disaster. Needs to be shutdown. The young man working here is really nice but the place smells so terribly strong of urine and feces. It's messy, too many animals crammed into a small area, guinea pigs were fighting because they had no space. Most of the animals looked sick. I asked about conure parrot food. He showed me one of the only bags they had, the price was on a sticker and said $29.99! At any other pet store it was 17 bucks. As he told me he could drop the price he turned bag over and seed fell pit. I said wait a minute there's a hole in the bag I can't buy that and he proceeded to tell me "oh yeah there's rats in the roof that come in and chew through the bags, I have to Check them every morning" I turned around and walked out. smells terrible, me and my wife went to get koi for our pond, he grabbed the wrong two we chose and it's like pulling teeth to get the right two.... as well as a $24.99 bag of koi sinking pellet feed, we got home to realized it was out of dat... dating back to MARCH OF 2024!!! it was on April 25th 2025 I purchased the bag not to mention that was like $8 over normal prices any where else we've bought that feed before I should have known better than to get anything from them when all tanks we very cloudy and in kept all the food and water treatment prices were a little high priced and there staff would cut off your conversation to greet and help the next person walking in. I made the mistake of leaving a couple products for them to try to put on their shelves. I told them how much I needed to get and if they want to sell it for more to make the profit that was fine. I also left them my phone number for any reason like unable to sell them for the cost that I wanted for each of them. Of course they never bothered to call me, so I went in to see what happened with my product and they said they had sold them for a ridiculously low price, without consulting me. They were not even going to give me anything for the sale! But I insisted they have to give me at least half of what they got, which was nothing. It didn't even pay for the materials. I bought my second hedgehog from them on 12/31/20 and by 1/1/21 she died. My husband called the store twice and their response was that they were sorry but they could do nothing unless we had taken her to the vet. And then maybe they could do something. I contacted them through FB knowing that they were going to do anything but was hoping they would have a heart. But they did not. They even tried to pin the blame on us saying we didn't keep her warm enough with this cold snap we are having in FL. This isn't our first hedgie and we have multiple heat lamps in their enclosures to keep them warm. We didn't receive any health certificate or any paperwork on her. I stopped in to see what this place is about, as I pass it all the time but work late so it's always closed when I drive by. The only positive thing I have to say about the store, is that they have one man working there who looks like he is in his 20s that is very kind. Let me tell you when I stepped foot in the building you are hit with an overwhelming stench of urine. Imagine if you are in a single bedroom that has 10 cats and one litter box that hasn't been cleaned in a month. That is what I can compare except they have no cats they have birds, rodents, reptiles, amphibians and fish. When I looked at the animals, they look sad, almost like they were sick or dying, or just plain old not taken care of. It's the type of situation where you wish someone would go in and rescue the animals to give them a better life. I wish they would take their time and actually clean up the store, make it look nice, cages, and get rid of the odor of urine that burns your nose when you breathe. If it's not obvious, you can't take care of the amount of animals you have in the store, maybe downsize and have less animals and you're sure will be nicer and your animals will be better taken care of. I would never purchase an animal from the store becauseI fear it would pass away right when I take it home and I would be out my money that I spent to save it from that place. read more

Yesterday right before closing my husband went to Pipsqueeks Pets to purchase a 24" Zoo Med Repticon T8 10.0 UVB bulb for our Bearded Dragon's enclosure. Much to my surprise when my husband got home and gave me the receipt he was charged almost double ($60 after tax) what these sell for anywhere else ($23-$25 at Petco, Pet SuperMarket, PetSmart, and just about anywhere else online). I thought there was clearly a mistake, maybe he purchased a 2 pack. Nope! I thought "I will just return it and buy it from somewhere else"... well how convenient this store does not accept returns but they can sure as hell rip someone off! I recently made a trip in for feeder mice/rats for our snakes. I was immediately excited to explore the store as they had a possum housed near the front of the store. My girlfriend had run our babies diaper bag back to the car (at the store managers request) and she does wildlife rehabilitation so I knew she would love to see him. When she returned we walked through the store together. We were both immediately taken back by the strong smell of rodent urine. Not just smelly but so strong I couldn't take a complete breathe in and my eyes were burning. I don't ever complain without reason, but I've previously managed stores in the pet retail business out of state and in Fl. There is absolutely no way that cleaning up every day would result in an environment like that. It was appalling to say the least! That kind of environment is neither safe for humans or animals period. I walked out with our infant because it wasn't a healthy place to have her breathing in. The stores response was full of excuses about the smell and was very defensive. They went as far as to tell me that "other pet stores" have reversed osmosis systems that keep the smell under control. Ladies and gentlemen I can speak from my personal experience managing pet stores that is a bunch of made up bologna. They have no such systems installed.... the are just cleaner. We visited a second time after being invited back as a response to a review my girlfriend left. Smell was a bit more tolerable but still not acceptable.my girlfriend chatted the owner up about a few of her animals including opossums. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience working in wildlife rehabilitation in Wa state where we moved from. The owners claimed that she breeds Fl opossums which are not a breed of opossums and something the owner either made up or is just ignorant of the fact. As I walked around this trip I noticed aquatic turtle hatchlings (under 4") being sold which is a HUGE no no as it's federally illegal. Some stores try to loop hope their way by selling them for "educational purposes only," but that has already been determined as retail pet stores not qualified to sell for that reason. We won't be back which is probably a relief to the idiots that run this place. We quickly found a store we are comfortable supporting that sells live snake food. read more

It's been a long time since I've seen such a wide variety of live animals. Furry, aquatic, reptilian and others surround you at every turn. there's especially a large selection of fish - they line two walls. Plus, a special section of Bettas. Hermit Crabs are perfect for a youngster to start off with as a first pet. They're low maintenance, inexpensive and something you don't see every day. The reptile inventory is always changing so if you don't see what you're looking for, I'm sure you'll see it soon. Some of the fur critters are guinea pigs, chinchillas and prairie dogs. Though they sell live food this isn't really the place to purchase regular pet food. The average amount of supplies available are specific to the animals they sell. read more

One star was required, I was sold a ferret who was there for a month and the night I brought him home, he died. I spent hundreds of dollars and days setting up for him. He was exposed to nothing he should not have been exposed to, and the woman who not only over charged me for using a card without my consent... Refused to give me my money back. She told me how to care for my ferret and I matched her advice up with research and JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING SHE TOLD ME WAS INACCURATE AND CAN KILL FERRETS. Turns out my animal had blood in it's stool. I went in today with my daughter, and although it was not the most clean store that I have been in, it was still nice enough. They didn't really have prices on all of the fish, so that made it hard to see what they wanted for them, so that was kind of strange. They did have a decent selection of fish though, better than any other stores in the area, so that was nice. The only other negetave thing was that the lady working at the counter kinda acted like she hated to be there.... so weird. Good and bad; the owner (Dawn) was helpful at first. I wanted a female sugar glider. She offered me a male, but I said I'd wait for a female. She then called and said she had a female for me. I bought it, along with lots of accessories (spent between $400-500 at the store altogether). A couple of weeks later, I discovered that the animal was male, which I did not want due to the extra expense of neutering because these animals mark with their scent glands and urine. When I tried to talk to Dawn about the issue, she refused to speak with me on the phone and sent a message through another employee that she could not guarantee the gender of a small animal. She raises sugar gliders, so she should have known the gender and, now that I'm more familiar with male sugar glider anatomy, the gender is quite obvious. I was happy at first with my purchases and the fact that Dawn talked with me by phone a few times to give advice on bonding with my pet, but I was very disappointed when she refused to take any responsibility for her mistake or even to talk with me about the situation. read more

I don't normally post about other businesses that have done me wrong, BUT when you STEAL my money, and I give you the opportunity to help settle the matter with me, and you pretty much spit in my face, well,.... shame on you! I can only hope this post will help others in the future! BEWARE of giving these people any deposits on any animals! I came in on Sept 27 2016 and wanted to purchase a Lion Fish that they had, but could not get it until my ph / salt levels in my tank were good. Dawn, the owner, told me I could put a 50% deposit down on the fish and just come and get it when the levels were right. I told her I wasn't sure when that would be, and her response was, "no problem", he'll be here!. I came in today, Dec 19 2016 to pick up my fish, and was told, "sorry, no refunds, I sold your fish two months ago... you're 4 months late" (she obviously didn't think I still had my receipt!)... which I wasn't (more like 2), plus, she knew I would be late in picking him up, as I told her the day I gave her the deposit, which she assured me was ok. She currently had another Lion Fish there for sale, she could've offered to sell me that one, would have been no money out of her pocket, and she would've still received my other $50 for the other 50% of my deposit!. Now mind you, I have spent TONS of money in her store, I have had one bill for almost $1000 for 2 prairie dogs, a 2-level cage for them, and misc items for them, another bill for almost $100 where I bought a squirrel and misc items from her, every month I by feeder rats ($4), every month I buy silver sides ($20) not to mention, refer people to her...NEVER AGAIN! You would think as a small business owner, you would keep your word, not to mention TRY and do whatever is RIGHT to exemplify outstanding customer service, and keep customers returning. She wouldn't offer ANYTHING to attempt to work something out with me. OBVIOUSLY she is above this, and doesn't care about ME (one person), it "won't hurt her"... Well, one person will tell 20 other people of a negative experience! She didn't even offer ANYTHING to help save me as a customer, being I did nothing wrong n the first place, and let me walk out her door. Her head has obviously gotten too big for us small town Belleview folk.. She is a crook, and I would not trust this woman with my money OR my business ever again, and I will let EVERYONE know of my experience. The animals are very poorly taken care of. They have a minimum amount of knowledge on the variety they sell. I walked in and immediately saw puppy mill puppies, sick saltwater fish, and less than adequate reptile care. Too many animals to properly take care of. read more

We purchased a Prairie Dog from this store two years ago and he's healthy and doing great. Never had a single problem with him. We also, on occasion, purchase food (live bugs yuck) for our bearded dragon and the worms have always been healthy and active. They offer a wide selection of feeder worms. It does smell like animals, as other reviews mention, but it's a pet store and has a lot of animals in a small space so to me it's to be expected to some degree. Some of the clerks are more knowledgeable in some areas than others...but aren't we all. They've all been very helpful and the owner, whom I've only spoken with once was pleasant and helpful. It's not as fancy as some stores but every time I've been in there everything appeared to have food and water and be taken care of with clean cages. I will continue to stop in for my meal worm food. read more

I wish I could say good things about this pet store. I really do. However, the attitude of the owners and the overall care of the animals at this establishment make it impossible to do so. My friend and I came to Pipsqueeks Pets about 30-45 minutes to close. It was nearly empty of customers, and one of the owners (a man and a woman both own this store) greeted us cheerfully enough as we walked in. We took a look around as the store tends to have exotics that are difficult to find elsewhere, and immediately noticed that the care of the animals was lacking and might even be considered neglectful; the overcrowded guinea pig enclosure had no water whatsoever, and many of the pigs were still trying to drink from the bone-dry water bottle. The rabbits' enclosure was filled with flies, and the rabbit food was absolutely covered in the flies. The rabbits had nowhere to hide at all, so they were sitting in the litter box (the only thing in the cage besides the food and water). The reptile cages reeked of ammonia and many of the water dishes were 1) dirty and 2) nearly empty. There were literal piles of dead fish in the freshwater tanks, and two of the puffer fish had clearly been fighting and were laying on the gravel gasping. We flagged down an employee there and pointed out all the dead fish and the fact that the guinea pigs had no water. Apparently, it's not the store's fault that they had dead and dying fish in their tanks. All of the dead fish were the result of shipping and "rescues". Now, we're understanding people. However, when an animal is in your care it is your responsibility to care for it! If there are animals that are clearly unhealthy when they arrive to the store, they should not be sold in that condition. That being said, I do not believe this is the case. I have also been here the previous week and their animals were in the same deplorable conditions. Also- as stated before, the store was nearly empty when we arrived. That means there was definitely downtime for the employees and owners to take care of the animals they are selling! My friend and I actually walked out the door because we were so angry, and then we marched right back in to speak to the owners. They were busy with (what appeared to be) the only other customer in the store, so we walked around and I took pictures as proof. Once the customer was gone we approached the owners and told them we were worried about the care of the animals. They immediately became hostile told me to take it up with FWC. But I wanted to show them why I was concerned, so I told them that reptile water dishes were almost empty as an example and one of them said, "ALMOST empty?" There was barely a centimeter of water in many of the dishes, and that is the response I get from the owners. "It's almost seven o'clock, of course they'll be empty. We fill them up twice a day." Now, here's something I don't get- those water dishes are fairly decent sizes, and there is no way the water would be that low if they were truly filled up twice a day, as claimed by the owners of the store. I told them that the time of the day is not an excuse for their animals barely having any water. I pointed out some of the other instances of neglect, and the female owner of the store pushed me towards the door and yelled at me (because now they were yelling and cursing as well) to get out of their store and that I was permanently banned. I smiled at her and pointed out the physical assault that had just occurred and told her I'd gladly never come back to their establishment. The male owner immediately yelled at the female owner to get her hands off of me and they kept yelling as we were leaving. My friend and I were understandably upset as well by this aggressive response to our concern. The male owner escorted us to the door and yelled at us to "get a f***ing life". He also mentioned that he was going to write down my license plate number, which I don't understand as we were not breaking any laws. They, however, are a completely different story. read more
