This old Conoco gas station will look familiar to those who like the movie Cars. Ramone's House of Body Art is an almost exact replica of this. The creators of the movie did an amazing job. It's weird how much they look alike and the neon-while being much more limited than that on Ramone's building-is beautiful, and I'm sure would look even better when it's completely dark out.

I'm glad I did because somehow I was unaware of the fact that I landed on Route 66 and at the best cafe anywhere between Amarillo and Tulsa. Riley and Leanne, the owner, spent considerable talking w me about all kinds of things and it was simply wonderful to connect w them on a human level. Which was really what my trip was about. Additionally, the banana bread pudding, which I started with, was just outstanding. Make sure you get the roasted almonds as well. Later I figured I had to try a sandwich so I got the BBQ Brisket sandwich which did not disappoint. And of course the classic landmark and trappings of the place made one feel they were actually plying the old route back in the day. A place not to be missed!

Learned so much about barbed wire BEYOND how it's made and the history. Learned about its application beyond cow fencing to people fencing during wars and at internment camps. There's even a barbed wire brassiere there as a nod to the building's past as a ladies' undergarment factory. Cool stop totally worth the time. And time you do need to plan for cuz it's huge with great write-ups and categories per room. Lots of old farm machinery and how it used knots in rope to open the seed drop mechanism every measured distance, tools the fence line folks used to carry on the horses to maintain the barbed wire, branding irons, dust bowl history WITH a jar of the actual dust, etc.

Supposedly there are over 2000 patents for it, so depending on how interested you are, the visit time varies. The building also houses the Texas Route 66 Museum, which is small or fairly-sized, but still has plenty of memorabilia to check out. There is also a wall that has the pictures of Texas Route 66 Hall of Fame inductees. If you're traveling on the Mother Road, don't skip out on this museum! One last thing to note: they have a cool gift shop so it is very likely you'll find something you collect here.

Admission was $7, and it was worth the drive. I grew up in St. Louis along route 66 so I could relate to a lot of this history. This museum brings up so many good memories and makes you feel very nostalgic. It was so interesting. They break up the history of Route 66 by the decade starting in the 1920s. This museum focuses mostly on Oklahoma's history of Route 66, but they do bring up things from all of the other states involved along the way. After seeing so many of the Route 66 sites in Oklahoma, it makes me so badly want to drive from Chicago to Santa Monica! Maybe I will one day.
