I was grateful to have a pediatrician in this area, although parking was extremely limited. There was street parking available if needed. There were a few steps when walking into the office, so everyone should be very careful to avoid tripping or falling. The staff at the reception desk were just okay and not overly friendly. However, the pediatric nurse who helped us was very friendly. As for the waiting room, I did not like that there was no separate sick waiting room. I was not sure if that was the best setup, especially during flu season, since a child could get sick from being in the same waiting room as other sick kids. There were many books for kids to read, but I was not sure it was wise for children to touch the books there. The decorations in both the waiting room and the examination room were very cat-focused. There were many cat decorations, including cat pictures and cat themed clocks. It was interesting in a strange way. Overall, it was a good pediatric visit. read more

Doctor is great. Front desk is another story. I feel like they really mismanage the time, hence, I've waited over 45 min with an appointment. It never fails! The wait times are ridiculous. There was a time when I called and they were supposed to let me in the office. I waited in my car for 15 minutes. After waiting I called back again and asked if they are going to let me in and they literally forgot about me. Please do a better job with coordinating the schedules and wait times, and don't forget about patients waiting in their cars. Giving an extra star because some of the staff are nice and mean well. I am surprised at the one star reviews. Sure when I call I am on hold over 5 1/2 minutes to make an appointment for my daughter and they are booked out with my daughters Doctor until the end of the month for a school exam. One time after waiting in the exam room over 30 minutes I did call the front desk to remind them that we were there.... But..... As a Nurse and a Mother I know my Daughter is receiving excellent care from Dr. Beatty and the medical staff at Pinwheel Pediatrics. They are very thorough, they don't cut corners, and I have never had Dr. Beatty give me the feeling like it was a cattle call and we were being rushed through our appointment. She sits down and interacts with my daughter at an age appropriate level. Again, as a Nurse of 24 years... I am very happy with the care at Pinwheel Pediatrics. read more

Another mommy yelp friend gave me the recommendation for Pinwheel Pediatrics way back when I was pregnant in 2010 with my son. Three and a half years and two kids later we are still getting out sniffles and shots and growth charts taken care of. We see Dr. Beatty but I'd recommend any Dr. here. The staff is amazing and the best part really. They remember your kids and are so sweet with them. Most recently my son caught the flu. It was awful. But they were there for me to reassure me. The whole experience was so stressful but I knew they were here. After this experience I would recommend getting your flu shot at the beginning of flu season. Once you've lived through a 3 year old being sick with H1N1 any immunization side effect is nothing comparable. Please get your kids immunized! Looking forward to many more years to come with both the kiddos. Hopefully more fun check ups and less little nose sniffles. read more

We have been brining our 18-month old boy to Dr Bergham since he was born- and we could not be happier with her, and her entire office staff. As first-time parents, my wife and I appreciate being informed of what to expect as our little prince grows and grows. Pinwheel is a terrific member of our extended child-care family. With respect to some unfavorable reviews I've read on Yelp, we have not had any similar experiences. The staff has always been courteous and professional. I met Dr Beatty today for the first time. My partner asked me to bring his kids in for a health exam. They are two of the most healthy kids I know. Dr Beatty quizzed myself and them a little too much regards what they should eat, when they have out standing diets full of a lot of green veg, raw organic foods, she was almost making them feel bad for not eating so much diary. Though the 13 year old informed her that kale actually has more calcium than milk. She disagreed and tried to push them into having more diary. Which my 10 year old just researched and confirmed right now to be completely accurate. Next came the topic of vaccinations, my partner and I both disagree with forced vaccination under law however we comply begrudgingly as it is the law here in California. Hence I asked what exactly my partners daughter needed to receive still for this year. She tried to push us into more and when I said after a few minutes that we did not agree with any extra. She literally said 'I will no longer see patients who don't follow my law to do with vaccinations and these are what I recommend' I was really blown away by her almost God complex telling us that these elite athletic kids needed all these vaccinations. When I said they will have to find another doctor. She nodded and said ok. She also wanted to push the HPV vaccine which we did not want as we know someone who almost died because of this. My partners daughter was literally crying half of the conversation as she did not want to receive any more vaccines as she has heard of real cases of people being affected. Dr Beatty was friendly at first but when we didn't follow her advice, came across as very dismissive. She told me the cases weren't real, when we know more than one person that this has happened to. I don't understand how she can have this authority over someone else's kids. I also thought it was unusually to tell the kids she was proud of them for being healthy after the health exam when she wasn't the one who raised or educated these kids. And clearly these kids could educate her about diet. A doctor should check a child's health, or if a parent goes to them with a sick/hurt child, they should also heal the child. Not force parents into pumping children with vaccinations or changing a parents decision regards their diet. To me this is not the job of a doctor. read more

My kids have been coming here since they were born (except a brief time period where I was forced to go to Kaiser because of an insurance change). Dr. Beatty is fantastic! She takes the time to talk to you and engages one-on-one with the kids. She answers all my questions and I always leave there feeling that my kids have just received the best possible care. I cannot recommend her office enough. The office staff is great and always tried to accommodate my schedule for appointments. I've also seen her NP Megan several times and she's fantastic as well. If you would have asked me to rate this practice 5 months ago it would have received 5 stars, hands down. My daughter's doctor was Dr. Holden (mentioned in several reviews) and she is fantastic!!! She decided to take another position at John Muir and left the practice--it has been downhill since then. Today, my daughter had an appointment scheduled at 9:30am. They proceeded to call me at 9:20am and tell me they were going to have to cancel my appointment. What?! We are LITERALLY in the parking lot about to walk in because we make it a point to arrive on time, as to not inconvenience the office by being late. I told them this was not going to work because I had to take off work and reschedule my day to allow my daughter to make it to her appointment. They said I could wait around until 11:30am to see if they could try and fit me in. It is very disheartening to know that we are required to cancel 24 hours before our appointment or we are charged for the appointment, but they can now call 10 minutes before and cancel? We are definitely going to find another doctors office because they handled the situation completely wrong and were very disrespectful. read more

The only reason I am giving them 1 star is for Dr. Beatty. She is a wonderful doctor but her staff is terrible! Their office manager Coco is rude and unprofessional. Many of times I have heard her talk about her personal life loud and clear and she has terrible office manners. She called us and told us there would be a $25 charge for a missed appointment... Which I am fine with totally acceptable and agreed to paid. When I showed up for my new appointment the charge was now $75! And they didn't even have is scheduled! We got the $25 bill but not the $75 bill ever. It was either pay the $75 or nothing. So we paid their bogus charges of $75 and walked out. The front staff is terrible in all aspects, nurses are great and their PA is awesome... I wanted to write a review for them several times because I had some great and some very disappointing experiences with them. We joined because of dr. Holden - who was amazing. When she left the practice we got to see a couple of other doctors and did not like them. then we got to dr. Beatty - she is very different from dr. Holden, but definitely a great doctor. however it is hard to schedule and especially reschedule with her 9 even if the rescheduling is from the office's part). The bad part is the change of doctors. A lot of times ( at least three that I can remember but maybe more) the appointments were rescheduled by the office. And twice the same appointment was rescheduled by them three times, until I agreed to see another doctor to just go ahead and have the appointment done.It felt like since Dr. Holden left there has been a lot of new doctors coming in and leaving. Make sure you record the time and date for your appointment and leave yourself lots of reminders ( talking about the well-checks) as their reminder calls are not a guarantee. I guess I tended to reply on those 9 as my other doctors always call or email or text to remind). I would say so far it has been about 50/50 with the reminder calls from the office. They are rather good at same day appointments, but we tend to be in the waiting room for a while when we call for those. They are part of an after-hours service that you can go to in the evening/holidays/weekends - which we used several times and find a very useful feature. I have thought about changing doctors at least twice and actually found a practice I like. at this point if something else happens, I will have to switch, as I think there should be something better out there. read more

I decided to give Dr. Beatty and Pinwheel Pediatrics a try when my son was about to turn two. Up to that point he was seen by a highly reviewed pediatrician in Pleasant Hill. My son who has always been a very happy baby open to anyone holding him grew more and more unhappy with his previous doctor and after a final unpleasant experience which had us both leave in tears I decided enough. Our first appointment at Pinwheel went well though initially my son was scared and obviously still hesitant to let medical staff near him due to previous experiences. Everyone was very very nice and understanding. Did not push him. Sat on floor with him and made a point to let the exam happen on his terms so not to upset him more. After that appointment, he loved them. And I was no longer dreading doctor visits. He has been there just over a year now and he asks to see Dr. Beatty, he loves her and the staff. Gives high fives and hugs. It is so comforting as a parent to see my child happy with his medical care providers so when our family talked of changing insurance plans to Kaiser to save money we decided against it due to the simple fact our son loves this office so much. Previously when I shared with Dr. Beatty that my family was becoming vegetarians she was positive and suggested which foods to make sure we had plenty of. Not just for my son but made suggestions for us as well. Dr. Beatty has asked me if I wanted my son to have a vaccine in past experiences. We have been going here for over 8 years. We started with Dr. Holden and then transitioned to Dr. Beatty when she left. I have seen some negative comments in regards to her but I have had nothing but the best and most positive experiences with her. She is very intelligent and I trust her whole heartedly with my children. She has made nothing but good decisions based on injuries and health issues in regards to my children over the years. The office staff is always very helpful and the nurses are so friendly and quick. The vaccinations are fast as to not drag on for the poor kids. My only complaint are the wait times. The appointments usually run about 30 mins behind no matter the time of day. All in all great doctors especially Dr. Beatty! read more

I really hate writing bad reviews, because I really hope that my situation is situational and not a complete view of someone's business. But this time I am livid. We moved to the area several months ago and had to choose a pediatrician for my children. I took our baby for one sick visit and one well visit. We had a co-pay of $15, but since I was new they said they would bill the insurance and we would get a bill for whatever amount I owed. I did get a bill of $30 in the mail. I paid it in January 2013. I got a bill again for $30 in February. I called the billing office and she said she would take care of it. In March I am getting a collection agency calling me about it. It is extremely difficult to get anyone on the phone at the billing office. No one ever answers the phone, you have to leave a message and hope you are home when they call back. I have 30 days to clear this up before it hits my credit report and I lack confidence this is going to get fixed. I really hope it does. But even so, I can't believe this has happened and am upset I have to deal with this. My overall experience there was okay, not great. I loved our old ped before we moved and was heartbroken I had to find another one. We saw this office a total of three times and saw different doctors each time. For the well visit with our daughter at 9 months I was made to feel uncomfortable about not wanting to give the flu shot. We fully vax on a delayed scheduled, so the flu vaccine is the only one I choose not to give my kids. I did not like that I felt bullied. We also breastfeed, at 9 months still exclusively due to my daughter's bad gag reflex. We also co-sleep. I got some negative feedback about both. Luckily, she is my 4th child and don't get super offended nor do I change what I'm doing due to one person's opinion. I have done my own research and know the benefits and risks of the parenting choices I make. That being said, if I were a first time mom I would have been intimidated. I will be changing doctors ASAP. I hope to find someone more inline with my beliefs, but more importantly with a competent billing company! read more

We've been coming to Dr. Bergham for almost 5 years. We always have a great experience. The doctor makes herself available for emergencies and will follow up regarding any concerning after hours visit. Like the other reviewers mentioned, they will exhaust all possibilities before prescribing any meds for the little ones. Our son has had respiratory problems and after many visits with Dr. Bergham, and occasional visits with other members of the staff we got a referral to the pulmonary clinic at the Children's Hospital. After 4 month wait for the appointment, pulmonary specialist didn't tell us anything new, which says a lot about the general pediatric knowledge of the staff. read more

All doctors are superb: up to date on all the latest research, excellent educational backgrounds, timely, efficient, friendly and ethical. For the most part, Dr Beatty was always very nice. However she is completely clueless about nutrition. At the encouragement of our family Doctor in Washington, my husband and I are vegan while our son is still eating eating dairy in the form of yogurt and cheese. We've never had any issues with his weight, or health, he is rarely ever sick. However when we moved to the East Bay and began seeing dr Beatty and I told her about our daily diet, she was very concerned. Every check up she encouraged me to feed my son milk shakes, cows milk and meat. She had the nurse draw blood from my sons finger, (after every visit!) to check his iron. His iron was always 12 or 13. I guess she didn't realize you can get iron from vegetables?? But even worse was how she (and my sons regular nurse) made me feel. I was treated like a dirty hippy, and like I was abusing my child. I found that completely intolerable. Moreover, I once brought my son in for a wellness check up while he was just recovering from a mild cough. She insisted on listening to his lungs and then immediately wrote a rx for albuterol and sent me home with a breathing machine for my son. She was so concerned, that she made it sound like he had pneumonia. But she wouldn't give me a straight answer when I asked what she thought he had. At this point I was frustrated and decided not to needlessly give my child the medication. 4 days later, after no medicine, I brought my son back for a follow up where she praised the miraculous healing properties of the medication and proclaimed my child cured. When I asked this time what had been ailing him, she replied it was just a chest cold. But then quickly added that some children are especially sensitive and it's important to clear the lungs as quickly as possible. This could be true, but it seemed a lot more like she was eager to take advantage of charging my insurance quite a bit more than usual. At the expense of exposing my child to medication he didn't need. It was after our 4th visit that I decided to switch pediatricians. Maybe she's a great doctor to someone, but we didn't see that side of her. read more

I have only dealt with Dr. Eileen Benway, but this all-female pediatrician practice is superb. Helpful office staff, warm nurses and the magical Dr. B. (a maven of unpretentious, relaxed patience) made our visit surprisingly pleasant. I love love love coming here. Any negative reviews are from at least 3 years ago and, from reading, it seems like some great changes happened after that. I've been coming for about a year and could not be happier. Very sweet office staff and nurses, love Dr. Beatty (very sweet and knowledgeable), saw Dr. Burnham once and thought she was great. I have never waited long. They always squeeze me in same day if needed too. The environment is very warm and my 18 month old daughter actually gets excited to come (pretty impressive considering shots are involved). My daughter is normally shy and she is always very comfortable immediately with Dr. Beatty. I also really value that Dr. Beatty never seems rushed and is very welcoming of questions. When I was pregnant, I went in to interview a doctor and in all honesty, I did not know what I really wanted in a pediatrician except the fact that I wanted a pediatrician that will NOT use medicine as a primary source when my child gets sick. Instead I wanted a pediatrician that will exhaust all sources of home remedies first before going to medicine. I had interviewed Dr. Holden and at the end of my interview, I did not know if she was the perfect fit. When my son was born, I decided to try out Dr. Holden and my first impression seeing her and my son together was not what I had expected. She examined my son and basically got to know him for him. At the end of the visit, I was very satisfied with her performance as a pediatrician. After several visits, I became more and more impressed by her. I loved the fact that I chose the PERFECT doctor for my son. I also recommended Dr. Holden to my neighbors that were also expecting. One of my neighbors absolutely loves Dr. Holden and said she doesn't want to see anyone else except her. After Dr. Holden decided to stop practicing, I was so sad and upset that nobody wouldn't and couldn't live up to what I wanted. I had to change pediatricians within Dr. Holden's office to Dr. Burgham. When I found out that after several calls (and maybe emails) from other mothers, I am so happy to find out that Dr. Holden is back in practice again but only one day a week (well its better than not seeing her again). I had to relocate to San Francisco because of work and the commute with a screaming baby is not pleasant at all. I ended up changing my son's pediatrician to a pediatrician in San Francisco and its NOT the same. I absolutely HATE the doctors in San Francisco. The pediatricians in San Francisco don't really get to know their patients. Instead they treat you like numbers instead of real people. I had a run in with one of the doctor's in SF and I decided to call Pinwheel to see if they can see my son. As I expected, Pinwheel was more than happy to help. I wasn't able to see Dr. Holden nor Dr. Burgham but I've got to tell parent out there that the doctors at Pinwheel are SUPERB! I wish I could bring them with me to SF. To be honest, all the doctors in this office are fantastic. They are really nice, friendly and they actually listen to you and what you would like to do as a parent. All three of my kids see Dr. Beatty but we've seen others as needed. For the most part my kids only go for the occasional illness and well checks but the one time both my sons had the pneumonia and needed immediate treatment they got us in really quick, called us after hours and took proper precautions to ensure they were ok. They use to be a great place for my children to be seen, but since Covid-19 began they have really become ridiculous!!! Every time you call because your child is not feeling well, they always think it's Covid. There are more sicknesses and illnesses out there, not just Covid!!! A few weeks ago my sons had an allergic reaction to blueberries and it took 3 calls just to be seen because they thought it was Covid. Today I called because my daughter has ear ache and pain in her throat on the same side and they can't see her because "their protocol says they can't see children with throat pain". To top it off they refer you to Urgent Care 24/7. Are you kidding me?! That is where my child(ren) will be exposed to Covid-19 since Urgent Care is located at John Muir WC. They have definitely dropped the ball. Their service has gone done and I will definitely be taking my business somewhere else, specially when they charge a lot to my private insurance and I pay my balances in full. So disappointed!!! If you followed protocol correctly, you wouldn't need to fear an ear ache that you know causes throat pain. Ridiculous!!!! read more

I have taken my 6 year old daughter here twice and I was unimpressed both times. I have always had Kaiser and this was my first time finding a PPO pediatrician and navigating the system. The first appointment was a prescription refill. My first impression was that they put $0 into this place. Like if you went here in the 80's it would look exactly the same if you came today. Front desk ladies weren't friendly. Bathroom was tiny and couldn't fit me and my 2 kids. Nothing seemed sanitary either. The appointment with Dr. Beatty was fine. We asked that her prescription be sent to Target. At the end of the appointment Dr Beatty gave both my kids (my son was there too) an alphabet cookie, but she accidentally dropped one on the ground (mind you I had already been thinking everything looked unsanitary) and then she said "5 second rule" and handed my son the cookie. So gross and unexpected from a doctor. Then we went to Target (15 minutes later) and the prescription wasn't in. So we shopped for about 45 minutes and went back to the counter. The pharmacist said they JUST called in the order. Is it normal to take that long to call in a prescription? The next visit was her 6 year well visit. My biggest issue this time was that at the end of the visit they just handed me a yellow carbon copy "receipt" but when I got home I could tell that some of the information was wrong. So I called to have them explain. They said "Oh well that information is on a paper that you don't have. And we drew an arrow, but you can't see that on the cc." what? So I asked if I could get an activation code to see my child's records on John Muir. THEY DON'T DO THAT! They do not have their records online. It never occurred to me to ask that question when I first went because I thought everything was online now. And I don't trust that the medical assistant wrote down her info correctly. My children have been patients at this office for 11 years now, the doctors are amazing!!!! They have same day appointments, front and back staff are very friendly and polite, they are especially great with the kids. Even my teenage son feels comftarble seeing the doctors, my daughters love the cookies given by the doctors and the stickers and lollipops given by the nurses! I am not very impressed with pinwheel pediatrics. My child has been going there for about 6 months now, and we've had nothing but issues. Not impressed with the nurse practitioner, my child was afraid of her. Dr. Beatty was really nice and my child liked her, but she didn't really know what she was talking about with arthritis, and misdiagnosed it, although she did refer her to a rheumatologist because she wasn't sure, so that's a plus. But, the rheumatologist appointment was booked 1 month in advance, and they never sent over the x-rays or the blood work ahead of time, so the doctor had no idea why we were even there. I don't feel like they have my child's best interest in mind, and due to this lack of attention to detail of their patients and referrals, this could affect my child for years to come. read more

My daughter got her ears pierced at that office when she was 6 months old. Although the doctors are WONDERFUL, the receptionist is a HORROR! I called to find out if I could reschedule my sons appointment-granted it was the same day and I was fully prepared for the $25 fee-I was lectured for what seemed like a half hour from the receptionist. She lectured me on how I wasn't a good parent and what good parents do for their children. All because I wanted to wait to have an appt. when my sons lab work was completed. True I had forgotten about this appointment that was made 4 months ago. And I should have written the appt down myself -but I assumed it was on that yellow sheet the office always gives us once the appt. is over. Both my children loved the doctors at that office. This happened 3 days ago and we have since made an appointment at a different office with a new doctor. What a shame. The doctors were so great here. The receptionist was completely out of line. We have been going here for over 7 years and have always had a positive experience. Dr. Beatty has been my 7 year old's doctor when she was just a few months old, and has been there from the very beginning with our 6 year old. We are very pleased with the quality of care we receive from Dr. Beatty and will be forever grateful for her. I never feel rushed during doctor visits. She listens to all of our concerns and questions. She is very thorough, knowledgeable, intuitive and thoughtful. I have complete trust and faith in Dr. Beatty. Great doctors! Very friendly and knowledgeable. My only complaints are to their billings company constantly sending out bills to me before clearing it with my insurance company, and to the fact that there is always a wait...I often show up early and still end up waiting 20-30 minutes after my kids scheduled time to be seen. read more

The doctor is very sweet and knowledgable, but the receptionist is a total B*TCH! If you dare cancel your appointment be ready for a lecture and a bad attitude. They really need to get rid of that girl because she lost their doctors office a good patient. I refuse to go to anyone who gives me an attitude and makes me feel unwelcome. read more
