Found this place on yelp while visiting N.C. . Park is large with different sections and different available activity spots. My kids wanted to play in the kids play area thats well kept up, the shaded area with the beautiful trees helps alot. They also have areas setup that will allow you to host bday parties or group events with perfect flat areas. The landscape around the park is well kept up and everything is green around here, compared to our parks back in s.cal. Very large park, well kept up, lots of shaded areas to sit and hang out, parking is decent, overall highly recommend it and would be back.

We visit this park every week to do training with our dog. What we love most about it is that the dog park is sectioned off so that there are certain areas for puppies vs small dogs va large dogs, which allows for dogs of similar sizes to play with each other. There is a lot of space for pups to run around. Other than the dog park area, there is a children's play area, tennis courtyards and outdoor seating/picnic area. It is relatively heavily frequented, but there is plenty of parking. Note that dogs must be registered and up-to-do for vaccinations in order to use the park. Because the area is large, there is enough area to socially distance from other visitors. Great place to visit with pups or friends during COVID.

Lots of shade and grass. Super safe and friendly people. Just don't forget to get registered!! More chances of dogs in the big dog side tho. Very clean too!

Piney Wood is just stellar, I tell you. Granted, having for the better part of a decade been the mother of an elderly anti-social dog (bless your heart, Goshnips), I do not have much experience with dog parks: poor Nips was already ten when we adopted him and had never been properly socialized. But now we're parents to dear Marvin, a Schnauzer-faced, wolf-bodied little two-year-old mutt, who is super-duper sweet and friendly, so we've been hitting up the dog parks like nobody's business. Our first visit was to the Northgate Dog Park, which I loved, and then to Piney Wood, which is even better! Piney Wood Dog Park is massive. There are perhaps four separate play areas, several of which are designated for larger or smaller dogs. And there's even a section for puppies! I dream of a day that I arrive to find perhaps a dozen or more puppies frolicking together and kissing and nipping with their milk breath landing on each others' fuzzy little snouts. Dear universe, please make this dream a reality. The feeling I have when I even imagine this scenario I believe is akin to that twinge a woman of my age---which is to say, thirtyish---sometimes feels in her womb when she holds a baby. It's amazing, actually, how I never wanted human children of my own, but months after Nips passed away, I was suddenly heels-over-head baby crazy. But now we have Marv, and the feeling has once again dissipated. In sum, I ask: who needs people when you can have dogs? But I digress. There is ample water to be had here as well, and at midday some shade midway through the series of play areas which, as any Durhamite knows, is absolutely essential when engaging in any type of outdoor activity during daylight hours in, say, June through September. Lots of grass, too, and the ground was very dry, so there was no mud, and very little dust. I do wish there were more pet waste stations with receptacles. The place is intimate enough to allow your dog to socialize with others (and for you yourself to meet other local dog owners), but spacious enough for your dog to retreat to a quieter place, should (s)he tire of playing, but still crave the outdoor quality time. If your dog is possessive of her or his toys, I would recommend leaving them at home, because it could definitely lead to altercations and time outs; you know how dogs can get. Piney Wood Park is located in a neighborhood area on Woodcroft Parkway just across Fayetteville, driving away from Hope Valley. You'll see the telltale blue-and-green "Play More!" Durham Parks and Rec flag sign on your left. Tons of parking. Hope to see you there!

I take my dog here often because there is lots of space for her to run around and the people I've encountered are nice and usually responsible dog handlers. Well so I thought. I'm editing my review because I have encountered many rude dog owners who do nothing when their dog misbehaves. Downsides is it gets very muddy so make sure you bring a towel and apparently people have been breaking into cars there (breaking windows, stealing purses). So if you go, make sure you don't leave any valuables in the car, park in the parking lot instead of the side road, and go when it's light out.

Piney Woods Dog Park is a great place for my very active dog to play and ruff-house with her doggy friends. The park has water and several small kiddie pools, balls and rope pulls for all the dogs. For their owners there are large trees for shade, benches and picnic tables. Park consists of two fenced in dog parks, one for small and one for large dogs.

Primarily, a dog park that's a couple blocks from where I live. It's divided into several fenced-in areas: a small dog play area, a large dog play area, and a dog-run space. The small dog/large dog sections have both open and wooded areas, which is nice for doggie owners who are looking to escape the heat. There are also a handful of benches. The park has a water fountain for pups and several doggie waste cleanup stations. There are lots of neighborhoods in the area, so it's a popular park, and if you go often, you'll get to know the familiar faces. My min-pin loves coming out here for the open air and space and -- when he's in the mood -- for the social aspect. The park also offers shelters that can be rented out for parties, a just-revamped play-set (for kids, not dogs!), and a few trails.

We absolutely love spending time at Piney Wood Park on the weekends! It is incredibly clean and a great place for kids to play.

This is a decent-sized park right in the midst of the Woodlake neighborhood. Some of the local parks are smallish, but this one has plenty of space and parking. Its biggest asset is a fenced-in dog park, but there are also picnic shelters, a nice-looking baseball field, and playgrounds.

The best time of year to go in my opinion is during the Spring and especially during the Cherry Blossom season, which only lasts less than a week if not that. During that time, it can be super duper crowded, with people everywhere trying to get the perfect profile pic and/or selfie in. Weddings are held here and they have a beautiful area for it, along with a pond with lily pads. I have friends who have gotten engaged here, although if you're a professional photographer, you need to have permission. During the summer, they have a summer concert series on the lawn and it's so much fun. My friends I would bring snacks, wine, coolers and picnic blankets. Partaking in those concerts was one of the most fun parts of my summers, so nostalgic. Parking is a bit much (as it's sometimes hard to snag) but there are a few overflow lots to accommodate. One of my favorite parts of Duke Gardens it that you can also access Duke Campus across the road, and see the lovely Duke Chapel, and its beautiful cathedral. Once done, you can re-enter the Gardens and continue your trail. Such a lovely stroll. Once you cross the red bridge, you can also find your way to the farm, where there are animals, vegetation and lots of vegetables and herbs in a sweet garden. You can't really get too lost at Duke Gardens which I appreciate. Just keep going and eventually you will find your way back to the main fountain. Enjoy!

The gardens are especially notable for their beautiful Japanese-themed areas, featuring an abundance of Japanese Maples and even Fuyu persimmons, which I would have loved to pick if they weren't so high up (maybe next time!). There are numerous pathways for strolling, and the gardens regularly host events such as weddings, educational programs, and seasonal festivals. Visitors can enjoy both formal, carefully curated landscapes like the Historic Gardens, as well as informal, naturalized areas that resemble a backyard wildlife garden, perfect for relaxing, taking photos, or simply enjoying a peaceful retreat from the busy world. Overall, Duke Gardens is a must-visit for anyone in the area, an accessible, beautiful, and educational space that offers a tranquil escape and a chance to connect with nature.

What began as a kickstarter project to make Durham Central Park an even better destination spot and give kids an activity, quickly took off. The community came together and raised $200,000 to fund the park. In addition to the food truck rodeos, skate park, farmers market and summer concert series that Durham Central Park offers, they now offer Mount Merrill, The play-mound offers two slides, a climbing net, great amphitheater seating, a ramp up to a "look-out!" area (you have to stretch your imagination here a bit), a boulder climb (mostly just piles of rocks) and lots of sculptural art (that was previously in the park and now is claimed by Mount Merrill). While Mount Merrill can't compare to many other play structures in the area, the tiny small mound is a lot of fun for kids of all ages (I too enjoy the big slide!) and I hope to see some improvements made to it in the summer months. Durham Central Park, with the addition of Mount Merrill, has quickly become a place for the whole family and a destination that I can see my nieces and nephews taking their children someday, just like I've taken them. Good job Durham, keep up the community building! I love the idea, it's just the size of the park that gives it a three-star, hopefully they'll add on to it in the summer!
