April 27, 2026 Dr. Rick Jenkins Pineview Veterinary Hospital 85 Pineview Dr. Oakland, MD 21550 Ref: Bodie McGowan, Beagle Dear Dr. Jenkins, We have been coming to Pineview Veterinary Hospital since late 2013. We brought Dakota, Sampson, Jingles, and most recently Bodie. We had come to believe the staff at Pineview knew what they were doing. When we brought Bodie in specifically for a serious limp on 2/23/26 we expected nothing less. We were told he probably pulled a muscle and we should permit only limited leash walks and confinement in our house. That day, he was also updated on all his vaccinations. That visit cost us $271.78, including $14.80 for pain pills. Bodie normally doesn't walk. He runs. This was going to be very difficult. But we tried. Despite our best efforts he kept getting worse. Not better. We called and it was suggested we bring Bodie in for X-rays. Just in case there was bone damage or other serious injuries. We did so on 3/9/26. We left him for the day and was told the X-rays revealed nothing. The verdict again was sore muscle. We were offered the opportunity to send the X-rays to a specialist for an additional fee. We declined. The X-ray visit cost $464.92. Throughout this time when we told friends what was going on and the first thing they said was it sounded like Lyme disease. They asked if the vet had checked him for Lyme. Although we didn't know, we assumed so. We trusted Pineview. On 3/21/26 I called to talk to the veterinarian. Bodie was getting worse. We were only letting him outside, on a short leash to pee and poop. He was both in pain and going nuts from his imprisonment. I left a message. No one returned the call. Bodie kept getting worse. I called again on 4/13/26. Again, I left a message. Again, no one returned the call. Friends had given us the name of their veterinarian. We called and set up an appointment for 4/14/26. We called Pineview to get Bodie's records. When the email arrived, we discovered his last Lyme disease testing was 8/8/25. He was not tested on 2/23/26 when we brought him in specifically for his limp. On 4/14/26 we went to the friend's vet. He was immediately tested for Lyme disease. He tested positive for both Lyme disease and Anaplasmosis. He was given medications for both. As it would happen, someone from Pineview finally returned my calls while Bodie was at the new vets. Bodie was later diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease. Today Bodie is up and running. He still has a minor limp. But his is outside half the day and running around again. We noticed a change after three days on the Lyme disease medication. All this by way of saying we were very disappointed in the performance and professionalism of Pineview Veterinary Hospital and your staff. Bodie spent almost two months getting worse and worse. We don't know if the chronic Lyme disease damaged any internal organs. We do know we will not be back to Pineview Veterinary Hospital. I am also requesting a refund of the $464.92 X-rays necessitated by the failure to test for Lyme disease. Regards, Tim McGowan (Address removed) Davis, WV 26260 UPDATE AS OF 5/20/26 5/12/26 I MADE THREE CALLS ASKING TO SPEAK WITH DR. JENKINS. HE WAS UNAVAILABLE. I ASKED HIM TO CALL. HE DID NOT RETURN THE CALLS. 5/13/26 DR. JENKINS CALLED TO SAY THE REASONS FOR THEIR ACTIONS WERE COMPLEX AND HE WAS WRITING A LETTER IN REPLY. I'M NOT SURE WHAT'S COMPLEX ABOUT NOT FOLLOWING INDUSTRY STANDARD PRACTICES OR RETURNING PHONE CALLS. BUT I AGREED TO WAIT FOR THE LETTER. 5/18/26 I CALLED TO ASK WHEN I MIGHT RECEIVE THE LETTER. DR. JENKINS WAS UNAVAILABLE AND DID NOT RETURN THE CALL. 5/20/26 I CALLED THREE TIMES TODAY DR. JENKINS WAS UNAVAILABLE. I ASKED FOR A RETURN CALL. I DID NOT RECEIVE ONE. read more

Best ever! If you are an existing client and have an emergency or issue about your pooch that concerns you, you get in to see their wonderful veterinarians Ina very timely manner. My favorites are Drs. Holbert and Bernard. The only fault I have is that they need to do a better job at wait time management. It's hard to keep your pets patient if there's a long wait for an appointment. However, their rates are fair. We used to pay outrageous prices for care in the Annapolis area when we lived there. read more

Great doctors, staff and facilities. You can trust your family pets to Pineview. I will definitely be back with my fur babies.

The vet and staff are great. But... I had a 10:20 appointment for a routine physical for my cat. Didn't see the vet until 10:51. I was there on time, its a pet peeve when others don't value my time as much as I value theirs read more

Years ago I thought they were a great fabulous caring veterinary clinic but unfortunately my financial situation changed by no fault of my own but a medical issue. So I have been ordering my medicines from 1800petmeds. Well, see they HATE that because they sell the same exact medication for it was $90/mo! I can't do it...so they screw with you so much and lie lie lie about faxing the medication orders! One time petmeds sent 8 requests for a refill with NO RESPONSE! My 14 yr old Pug with arthritis has been out of her meds for over a week. They don't care. The last time I was told petmeds had to call A week ago they had me in tears trying to get those lazy pissy b**ches give you the run around about the faxing and they would have to call well they won't answer the phone for them!! It's sad. If your rich they are great...if not...go ANY PLACE ELSE!! read more

I'm extremely unsatisfied with this place of business. The vet herself was excellent but the vet techs are extremely rude & pine view should probably think about hiring new ones. My dog has had things wrong with her ears for probably 3 days pineview told me I'd have to call everyday to see if they had an appt available. Every morning I called them and they also answered the phone with some time of attitude & they always made me feel like I was an nuisance for calling their place of work. When we finally got the appt scheduled we took our dog in and we over heard people outside of the room saying "that beagle looking thing in that room" um sorry EXCUSE ME? Also we overheard someone making an appt for July. And they told me that they don't take appointments. That's fine! I'll take my business elsewhere! read more

I have been going to this office for years. I Love the Vets, office people and the treatment my animals and I have received from anyone concerned. They have very fare prices compared to every one else. No one is liked by everyone but this office, in my opinion, is great all the way around. read more

DR. Rick Jenkins is the owner and head DVM at pineview. We took our dog to his facility after she was hit by a car. He saw her and right away was talking about putting her down as an option. He said he would see if she made it through the night and if she did he would do xrays first this in the morning and let us know. We called multiple times the following morning and they said the doctor was out on a 2 hour lunch. We called and called and called with no luck. Finally, we got ahold of the receptionist and she proceeded to tell us the everything that was wrong with the dog and told us we would need multiple surgery and she may never walk again. After the utter incompetence of pineview vets we had had enough. We pick up our dog and took her an hour away where they were amazing. We had xrays in 15 minutes and a surgery plan to fix her bones and get her healed. They not once mentioned putting her down as an option. Our dogs are family and we will never take any of our pets to pineview again and you shouldn't either. read more

Never take your pet here if you want a vet that truly cares about your pet instead of just money. I took my puppy here to get spayed. Almost a month later her incision still didn't heal and she had a abscess growing on her incision line. I called Pineview and explained to them what I was seeing and every single person I talked to told me they couldn't get me in until a week or so and that there was no way it was from the spay surgery they did since it had almost been 4 weeks. I tried explaining the girls on the phone how horrible it looked and how my dog was acting different and they still said it wasn't from the surgery. Had to take her to the animal hospital that night where she got meds for an infection and I was told her incision had reopened. Called pineview and they still couldn't get me in. Finally Dr. Jenkins called me to discuss the situation of me being frustrated that Pineview wasn't caring for my dog. He then proceeded to tell me that it wasn't an emergency anyways and my dog could have waited for a week so I made the "mistake" of taking her to the animal hospital... the receptionist also told him that they offered me a next day appointment - which they did not! This place is just all about money, take your pet to a vet they deserve! read more

Can't speak for the other reviews, but I have had nothing but positive experiences at this clinic. Many individuals I know take their animals to this hospital and are very happy with the service and the vets at this facility. I just think these 2 very negative reviews need to be balanced with a review that has experienced the positives of this hospital. read more

I got a phone call. about a blind man needing his seeing eye dog vet checked. the blind man gets ssi which is a very low amount. out of this small monthly check, dog food and total living expenses are to be paid out of it . the amount is about 700,00 per month. as we all know to live on that small amount it is a challenge . but never the less. this veterinary hospital would not work with this blind man to help by looking at his sick seeing eye dog. this happened in the middle of august so all of august money was spent on other living expenses. I think it takes a heartless person with a greedy business. to turn away a sick seeing eye dog because the owner has no money to pay the day of service. and wont help with a small payment plan. What kind of people are in this world I just don't understand. thanks for reading j.r. read more

These people are wonderful! My dog recently died after being attacked by another dog. They made me feel like they really cared. They gave me time to be with him and they even wrapped him up in a soft blanket so I could take him home with me. They never rushed me or told me they needed the room. They even sent me a sympathy card. I have been taking my animals there for care for 30 years and wouldn't go anywhere else. My son even drives three hours to bring his dog here for care. They are the best. read more

We have used Pineview for almost 12 years. Not one time did we ever feel they were about the money. Quite the opposite, they always showed care, concern and professionalism. I have witnessed in their facility them make arrangements for other clients to pay as the could afford to and still provide care to their pet. You know you are in the right place for your pet the minute you walk in the door. The greeting from the staff at the front desk through the care they provide. Today, we had to make a difficult decision to put down our dog. Dr. Jenkins explained our options and gave us time to make our decision. If you are looking for a veterinary hospital to provide quality and professional care Pineview Veterinary Hospital is the place. Thank you for the concern, care and compassion you have given us!! read more
