Honestly, the whole team was great including their new dentist Dr. Parker! They addressed my concerns about my oldest's mouth breathing/drooling at night , and I felt heard and also left with a plan of action. I've always been happy here to the point that even when we moved from Portland, we still drive all the way from Ridgefield, WA (north about 35min). So far as they take our insurance, we will keep coming!

We had a small procedure done on my child, and I didn't like how it was handled. They didn't properly prepare my child for what would be done, which caused fear and tears during the procedure. Afterwards, they sent me a survey asking about my experience. I was honest and said things could have been handled better. As a result, the dentist called me herself and "invited" me to find a new dentist. I found that pretty shocking and rude.

We tried many dentists and she is by far our favorite. Quality of care is excellent, she is kind to her patient's and treats them really well! In my experience you don't find that care as often as you would hope for or expect. I appreciate the experience she creates for the kids and their families. Our experience in her care has been cleanings, preventative care, she has given helpful feedback on good oral care habits, and she placed caps on our oldest childs front teeth which turned out amazing! And boosted his confidence no one knows they are not his real teeth. Our youngest had surgery with Dr Wages when she was around two. Surgery is hard to walk into and not be concerned. Dr. Wages took time to explain everything and answer any questions or concerns we had. That led me to trust her, most care providers get frustrated if you ask to many questions. I was still terrified of what the risks were however everything went excellent and just as Dr Wages said it would. Within a day our child was eating and drinking as if she never had surgery that still amazes us. The world is a better place because of her sincere care for children and the care and quality of care she provides them. Today we had an emergency I reached out to Dr Wages office. They fit us in for an emergency appointment right at closing, in my panic its a bit of a blur what I do remember is Dr Wages calling to find out what was the best care option and helping me access the situation based on what I saw. Her questions helped me look at all the risks and make a good decision. She and her team had already worked all day and they were kind enough to stay and help. I sat there and just thought what would we do without each of you? It's beyond comforting to know that your child is in good hands, with people who care and know what they are doing! Life is busy we all are tired and when people set aside going home and take care of another human you can't help feeling extremely grateful that they care enough to do so. I want to add after leaving Dr Wages we went to an urgent care and were turned away because everyone was scheduled to end their shift and we had no appointment. I wanted to share because it is so rare to find care like the care Dr Wages and her team provide. And I would like to add one final thought on my experience with the receptionist. In my experience its very hard to find dependable people who are good at what they do, medical receptionist have to be efficient and be able to work with and understand insurance policies and deal with those insurance companies. Its hard to find any human that can do all the things required for a job and balance relationships with clients. I feel like it is two separate worlds. And if we can grasp what another person does behind the scenes it isn't so personal. I like her, she is good at her job, she is blunt by nature which probably makes her really good at dealing with insurance companies. Blunt people are often misunderstood at least from my experience. I would urge you to decide on quality of care and how your child is treated over a how friendly the receptionist is. Friendly people aren't always good at their jobs because they are so busy being social. Just my honest thoughts after working with many different personality types I would take serious and to the point every time even if they ruffle feathers occasionally. Also with so much AI and in our recent emergency we couldn't get ahold of a human who could answer our questions about which urgent cares were open and if they were did we have to have an appointment. I just want to point out humans have such value and if we are kind and ask questions it can prevent alot of misunderstandings wait and try to understand their job or what they are going through. The concept of two truths can apply here, clients can be right and so can the receptionist. But that has never changed the quality of care and for us that is our highest priority, our kids are treated well and the work lasts. For me I had a dentist as a kid who did poor quality work and I have had that show up as an adult. Not every person is good at what they do, and that really matters. If there are any parents who's child absolutely hates having their teeth brushed like our kids hated brushing their teeth, we found the song "Brush your teeth" by Charlie Hope helped them look forward to listening while we brushed their teeth and it helped us brush them long enough to! Play and connection really do make a world of difference for both the child and the parent or caregivers. I felt so overwhelmed that I reached out to a JAI certified parent coach and it's been a tremendous help in so many ways including the once dreaded teeth brushing. Make things fun and playful any chance you can and those memories will last a lifetime for the child and the parent.

They're fantastic with kids and adults with ADD, showing so much patience and understanding to make sure everyone feels relaxed and supported. You can tell they genuinely care about each person, not just as a patient but as a person. AND they will meet you in the clinic after hours if there is any discomfort or pokey wires. A special shoutout to Terrie, who's amazing at working with payment options and helping you find a plan that fits your budget. She makes it so much easier and stress-free! I took my son here YEARS back, which is why I returned, but the experience and care is not at all the same. BIG thumbs down, but now I'm stuck... I'm sure they are definitely making a lot of $ on this set up, but the patient/customer side of it is VERY LACKING. Go somewhere where you have a partner in your care. That place is NOT here.

Genuinely disappointed in our experience here. But giving 2 stars vs 1 because most of the staff is super kind and seem like good people. The issue came when I requested a call with Dr. Garfinkle himself to get his perspective on a possible different course of treatment for my 11 year old son. My son has very crowded teeth and an overbite, so I'd been doing some exploring/learning on my own about palatal expanders and airway orthodontics. I'm not an expert by any stretch but I'd been talking to some other parents whose kids had expanders and researching online, so I wanted Dr. Garfinkle's professional opinion. Up until this point we'd just been coming in for annual visits, counting down the amount of teeth my son needed to lose before he could get braces. I was particularly interested because I'd been reading about the benefits of expansion for kids with allergic rhinitis, which my son has always had. Chronic congestion and sneezing for YEARS. The first thing Dr. Garfinkle asked me when we got on the phone and I explained my questions was "I'm sorry, but what do you do for a living?" seeming to imply that I wasn't qualified to have an opinion on the matter. I told him what I did for a living then asked why he was asking and he said "oh nothing, nevermind." When I then told him that I was curious about my kids' friends who had expanders and wondered when they get prescribed vs not, he told me that expanders "aren't about keeping up with the joneses." Moreover, that I should be careful about believing what I read about airway orthodontics because "it's not actually a real thing." I could go on and on about our conversation and how Dr. Garfinkle showed up, but what struck me most was how close minded this doctor seemed to multiple schools of thought, alternative approaches, and emerging science. Disappointing, and not the kind of old school practitioners I'm interested in for my son, especially in such a rapidly advancing world. There's a happy ending though! I'm SO HAPPY to say I found myself at a new orthodontist who, first thing, did much more comprehensive scans and said my son had a super narrow palette, and was a classic case of a kid who would benefit from expansion before braces. Within DAYS of getting the appliance his airway was more open. This is a kid who was constantly congested and sneezing for years, and since expansion, his breathing sounds *clear* and he hardly sneezes at all. I'm so grateful I trusted my intuition, rather than listening to a doctor who's first response to my curiosity was questioning what I did for a living. My 11 year old wanted me to make sure I quoted him: "I feel like my expander has changed the way I breathe and I feel overall better. And I'm so glad we left this place and went somewhere better."

With Dr. Fox's help the cavities (10!) have been dealt with in the least intrusive, most effective way possible. I have a pretty shy, sensitive child and he never anguishes about going to the dentist. Through spacers, fillings, and even a fitted cap, he has experienced excellent care. He feels confident and trusts the staff and Dr. Fox. Everyone has been so lovely--from the front desk staff to the hygienists. I wouldn't think about changing dentists.

Their office is discriminatory towards their OHP clients and is in general horribly unprofessional. Rachel did let me know in a very ugly tone (likely because most people who qualify for OHP can't pay) that if I wanted to pay cash he could be seen. They blamed OHP because the day they booked my son is not a day they have a contracted dr working. How is that OHP's fault? Our kids qualify because of being adopted. If we were unable to pay to go elsewhere we would be stuck being treated like garbage. For all those who can't afford it too bad so sad apparently! Disgusting!!!!! Also, during our visit today Rachel and another front desk person thought discussing birth control, the pullout method and more was appropriate where the waiting area could hear. I came to The Kid's Dentist because of a bad experience with my child's previous dentist. Dr. Yip determined that my child needed a tooth extracted along with some fillings and crowns. It was very overwhelming, the amount of work that needed to be done on such a young child, but Dr. Yip took the time to explain the reasoning behind the treatments and our options on how to proceed. One of the options was the use of general anesthesia and complete the treatment in one sitting while my child was sedated. At first, the use of general anesthesia on such a young child made me nervous. But, Dr. Yip took the time to explain that the risks were minimal and that the ability to get the treatment done in one sitting instead of a possible four would save my child from the "traumatic" experience of multiple trips, shots, and drilling. The entire process only took a few hours and my child recovered quickly. Dr. Yip even followed up with us, after hours, just to check on my child's recovery. The best part... my child still likes going to the dentist and isn't afraid to go see Dr. Yip. The use of general anesthesia was well worth it and I would recommend any parent to strongly consider it as an option for their child's treatment. I highly recommend The Kid's Dentist. Dr. Yip and the staff went above and beyond to ensure that everything was taken care of, from start to finish. They truly care about their patients.
