I am an overall fan of the outdoors leafy area and tacky interior, it adds to the charm of this conveniently placed inner city pub. The great thing about this place is the location; right it the city, only 5 minutes walk from Central train station. The other cool thing is, once you walk down the leafy pathway, you forget that you are in the city, the trees block all of that out giving the place a more homely and relaxing feeling. I have only come here on Sundays for their 'Rock and Roll' sessions. The bands that play here are local punk/rock/garage acts. Local acts is what the stage is designed for as it is not a large stage, nor is the audience standing area. You can't beat the prices for drinks of this place either; all local beers on tap cost only $4 for a schooner- pretty good if you ask me. I can not judge the Spring Hill Hotel during its busier periods but whenever I have been here, I have enjoyed myself. The pub is in such a great location, I really do not need a reason to not go on a lazy Sunday.

A bloke called Cowboy Bob started organising FREE Sunday arvo gigs (with FREE bbq) here a while ago, and it seems to have taken off. There's a resident Sundee arvo crowd there these days that come for the song and steak. Bands start at 2:30pm. Outside of this, the Spring Hill Hotel offers your general pub fare. It's got Monday 2 4 1 lunch and dinner deals, it's got a 300g steak as it's headlining pub meal, and trivia on Thursdays. It's the best pub in the area by miles. It shits all over the Normanby, it's way more fun that St Pauls around the corner, and you won't get yourself into a tangle like you might at Sportie's.

I dont think we could have asked for nicer :) We had a one bedroom apartment on the 10th floor overlooking the ocean. The Oakes Mon Komo is part of a bigger building that has some residential accomodation as well. There are two towers to the building, the Residential tower and the Oakes tower. The Oakes tower has a range of apartments, a mix of 1,2 and 3 bedroom apartments. With a choice of Ocean View or non Ocean View. In my opinion it is DEFINITELY worth paying the little bit extra for the ocean view - the view that we had was spectacular and the sea breeze was just divine :) The apartment was fully equipped, with fully kitchen (including stove, oven, microwave and dishwasher), laundry with washer and dryer, and a fantastic balcony! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the whole experience from an accommodation point for view was great. However, the one and only thing that I do have to complain about was the food from the restaurant. On our first night there - we ordered take away food from the restaurant downstairs. I had to go down and collect it, and my husbands risotto was great. However, the food that my sister and I ordered left a lot to be desired. We ordered a cheese platter, which was fine, and a bowl of chips which were served in a styrofoam container, and so they were VERY soggy by the time I got them back to our room, and although I ordered them with tomato sauce as well as aioli, there was no sauce to be seen. But with the food aside, the accommodation experience was fantastic. :) As far as accommodation goes, this is a definite YES. Just maybe choose one of the many other options for food in the area. :)

Rooms - It's a city hotel, it's close the entertainment hub and next to main roads and the train station so it can get a tad noisy - ask for a room higher up - I did and they put me on level 6, nice and quiet (better chance for a decent view as well as a bit of peace). Decent flat screen tv with very basic foxtel although the HDMI-in didn't work on mine. Clean, well maintained room with above average bits and pieces: 2 x queen beds, safe,kettle with tea and coffee, iron and board, plenty of storage, mini-bar that wasn't shockingly overpriced and, most importantly, desk with enough power. WiFi - Free and not bad for a hotel service. reliable and fast enough for HD video streaming. No problem with using my VPN provider Staff - No problems. Front desk staff helpful, knowledgeable and polite Pool - yes, technically there is a pool but I have seen bigger Jacuzzis. Don't expect to do laps. Food - Better than average breakfasts in the Bacchus restaurant; my kids would have loved the pancake making machine when they were younger and I'm so going to copy their potato and spinach rosti as an alternative to hash browns. I only needed room service once and it was very good - piping hot food inside of ten minutes - I doubt that it would have arrived faster in the restaurant. Poolside bar does a mean margarita although I might have been less tempted if I'd realised beforehand that it was going to be $22. Overall? It's a big, concrete, chain hotel. Comfortable, clean and efficiently run. High on convenience lower on charm. Tips: Unless you're a sound sleeper, try to avoid rooms below level 4. If you're attending the conference centre, there is direct access across a private shared plaza at the back of the hotel. Main access to this is via stairs next to the Bacchus Restaurant - but get someone to show you the quicker way via the service door on Level 2

Although if I must, the choice of large sheets of frosted glass separating the bathrooms from the rest of the room can make room for some amusing situations.
