Luckily for my family we have found the means to attend a wonderful home schooling - school, but we…read morehave to turn in paperwork to the elementary school every summer.. those receptionists are incredibly rude to us and many other families I have spoken to About this issue. Instead of being helpful they have been greeting our family for 3 years in a row with rude comments and tones. They clearly don't like homeschooling parents and I'm pretty sure they filed our first year paperwork in the trash because they had NO records of them the following year!! As homeschooling parents we can be audited for that!! When we ask them to make us a copy of their signature because of their prior negligence, they said oh if we did it for you, we'd have to do it for everyone.. oh everyone that pays thousands in tax dollars to your district and our kids never see money from that?? You can't spare a .10 cent copy? Is the district really that hard up or are they that discriminating towards homeschooling families?? You only confirmed our choice in schools since them being the face of the school is piss poor and incredibly concerning. I believe this is Colebrookdale Elm, near the giant in Gilbertsville specifically. We don't attend there I just know it's where we have to turn in the paperwork, unfortunately for us.

The fear, confusion and anger that came with our son's learning disability diagnosis 11 years ago…read morehas shifted to acceptance and pride and joy. We enrolled our son at The Hillside School in second grade. He was there for three years then re-enrolled in seventh grade to help pilot the middle school program. The strategies he was taught in reading and writing along with skills in meta-cognition and self-advocacy have successfully supported him through high school and he will graduate in June. He was recently re-evaluated by our local school district in preparation for college admission. While he will always have a learning difference, he has tested out of needing specially designed instruction and hence an IEP. The faculty and staff at The Hillside School have consistently guided us with compassion and respect. Our investment in our son's education in his elementary and middle school years has been worth the time, effort and money put forth. My gratitude for Hillside is deep and wide. We celebrate our son's strengths every day and look forward to a bright future.

I would absolutely send my kid here, especially if I wanted it to have a healthy hatred of all things elitism, bureaucracy, and administration. They say people make the place, and while 84% of the students are fantastic, the rest leave me wondering who is bribing the admissions department. Should you attend? If you can, yes.
