I just wonder how much you have to pay to rent a house that isn't stuck in the 1990s.

Tru by Hilton Gaylord - Breakfast Area

Tru by Hilton Gaylord

(22 reviews)

This was our first stay at a Tru hotel -- and we loved it! Having travelled for work quite a bit…read moreover the years and experienced different brands, I've been very happy with the Hilton brand for decades. I find Tru to be a lively refinement of the traditional hotel experience. The color scheme of the lobby sets Try apart from other Hilton brands. Fifteen years ago, I enjoyed the minimalist theme of Four Points by Sheridan, but today I feel Tru by Hilton is more energetic, sophisticated, and more on point for me. While I think Tru was intended for young travelers, I feel Tru suites me in my early 60s. I very much liked the complimentary breakfast better than what is served at a Hampton Inn. I liked the pancake machine over the waffle maker. The Lavazza coffee was a welcome feature too. The rooms are a bit smaller, but still comfortably fit a king-sized bed. There is a small refrigerator, but no microwave. Exposed rods, pipes, and pegs replaced dressers and armoires. The shower was full glass with TWO glass corner shelves, so for a change I didn't have to store my toiletries on the floor or bend over to pick up them up. If you need a microwave, there's one in the lobby at the snack counter. The rooms and lobby were CLEAN. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

My family and I stayed here on a recent trip up to Mackinac Island. This was a good location…read morebecause it was only an hour away from the island and got us an hour closer to home afterwards. It was also nice because it allowed us to collect our Hilton honors points. The hotel feels very new and clean and modern. Our room was of a very good size. The beds were comfortable. The complementary breakfast was pretty good. My child and I really enjoyed the pancakes, especially. The only reason I give it four stars instead of five is because we did not receive any housekeeping services during our stay of two nights. Overall it was a great place to stay.

This weekend, I went skiing at two awesome ski resorts with my dad, named Treetops and Otsego Ski…read moreresort. Otsego was even funner than Treetops. It had a café, five individual lifts, plenty of fun trails and a massive terrain park. The café at Otsego was a very nice one, and had a large fire which was great to come into on a cold day. Unfortunately I wasn't able to be there for too long, and therefore couldn't see too many things that they served, but one thing I know was that the hot chocolate is great and the candy bars are delicious. The trails at Otsego were also great, but had a bit of a higher skill level. They had a few easy blues and greens, like Für Elise and Alan's alley for begenners, but no bunny hill, a load of blacks like waterfall and master's, two steep duo trails that me and my dad very much liked and even a few fun double blacks like Bob's Glade, a exciting and adrenaline-giving slope that emptied out into a easy green. The terrain park was also super fun, with gigantic jumps that sent me very high up into the air but no rails, which was ok but not as cool as it could be. The only rail I could find was a few rotten blocks of wood that someone had thrown together and then left to the power of the forest.

One thing about this place is it is clean! Everywhere I looked was clean but everything is also run…read moredown. Our room was comfortable enough but outdated as were the exterior and hallway finishings. We were attending a conference and every staff member we encounter was friendly and helpful. The camaraderie at the bar was fun and comfortable however the pool area was like something out of a scary movie. I wouldn't mind dining or attending a conference here again but will find other accommodations next time.

The room was clean and a good value for the money…read more They have a snazzy little breakfast each morning. Unfortunately, the juice machine was on the fritz during our stay. Our room had a bay window with padded seats. I'm picturing how much fun a little one would have sleeping there. We just enjoyed the view. The bed was comfortable and the bath/shower facilities were more than adequate. Excellent shower pressure. The cable selection was terrible but not a big deal for us. The hotel is in a great location. Right off the highway and near the only Tim Hortons for 50 miles! The staff were extremely friendly and had easy access to things like a mop for our sticky floor, or batteries for the tv remote. The place even had a door in the back for our convenience. I hope we can stay here again. 06/23

The room we were given did not have the features that were advertised. The room did not have a desk…read moreand it did not have a chair. These were both advertised features of the room. When we arrived we were so tired. We couldn't argue with the desk clerk, so we swallowed it. The next day we will complain to the manager, Michele, and she blew us off. In fact, she tried to blame the problem on us. No apology. Furthermore, every room in this building is pet friendly so people with allergies to dogs and cats. Should expect to have a runny nose while they're there as I did. There are nicer places in Gaylord. I recommend one of them. The room that we had was in perfect order and clean. The staff reporting to the manager were all respectful of us.

On Saturday, when we returned to our room around 7:45-8:00 pm, I noticed 2 towels on my bathroom sink that I did not request. Housekeeping entered our room between the hours of 2:00 pm - 7:45 pm without our permission!! Definitely noticed my candy missing!! When we got home, we unpacked, thought maybe the candy fell in our bags or something. I called on the following Wednesday 01/29 and talked to Crystal. Told her what had happed. She sounded shocked and told me that they have Zero tolerance for that! I left a message for the manager, Mariah, to call me back! They wanted to check their hall cameras. I waited 1 week 02/05 to call back because they haven't contacted me yet. I spoke to Brianne, asked her to leave a message for Mariah. Today is 02/10 and I'm STILL waiting!! It's definitely not about the candy, what if they got something of more value?? **Stay very far Away**

We called to get a early check in and spoke to a very nice employee who told us this would be possible and when we arrived at the time we were told we were greeted by a employee who seemed like he would rather be anywhere else but there. We also had people above us that were stomping about for hours, we finally called the front desk to see if they could resolve this issue " we have little ones trying to sleep" guy again sounded unphased and the stomping around continued . All in all wouldn't go back.

Looked like the cleaning crew truly just remade the bed from the people who stayed there before me. There was no toilet paper. The shower backed up to almost my ankles. I told the guy who was working and he got me a new top blanket and said nothing else can be done till the manager shows up the next morning. The manager agreed to switch my room. I went to the very next room across from the hall and the toilet broke every time I flushed. I had to rehook the flap every time! They say you get what you pay for. JUST DO NOT EVEN PAY TO STAY. Go somewhere else. They have one ice machine. That has no ice. lol. The guy at the front desk has his wife sitting in the lobby all shift, as they face time with people and make people wait. I paid $62 per night here, booking through Expedia. For that price, the rooms are very nice. They're clean, modern, and vibrant. The breakfast here has a waffle maker so that was quite a nice surprise. The lobby also serves free coffee. My criticism is that the beds could have been better. Gaylord also does not have much to do, and it's just an exit off of I-75. If you want to save money going up north, this is a good place to stay if you don't mind driving a little bit.
