This experience left her with a unique understanding of how the different systems of a home work together over its lifespan and a clear feeling that most problems, big and small, are simply a matter of attention and care. A Home Inspection isn't a pass/fail exercise from the perspective of the home inspector, it's a detailed investigation into how well the home was constructed, how well it has been cared for, and what its current and upcoming needs are, if any. Hi Folks, I am writing this review to apprise you of the…read more"Blessing" that Larry Smyj from Aurora Home Inspections was to me and my little family. I am a single mom and I am in the process of purchasing my very first home for my and my family. I asked several folks at Mass if they could recommend a highly "competent" and extremely honest home inspector that would guide me and direct me since I am totally clueless. Several of the men from Mass stated that Larry Smyj from Aurora Home Inspection was my "go to guy" for a highly detailed and professional inspection report. This is the 3rd time that I have utilized Larry Smyj and his professional services. Back in the Fall of 2017 I put a bid of $160K on a wonderful two story home in a historic town here in Jersey. The home was 185 years old. It is on the National Registrar of Historic Homes. No wonder why it was so low the home was falling apart at the beams. The home was originally constructed using the lumber from the local area. However, the lumber was never treated. The lumber, from basement to attic, was riddled with Powderpost Beetles. Powderpost Beetles are a group of seventy species of wood boring beetles classified in the insect subfamily Lyctinae. Wikipedia Scientific name: Lyctinae Higher classification: Bostrichidae Rank: Subfamily (Did you know: Powderpost beetles are small, brown insects usually less than 1/4-inch in length that attack seasoned hard-woods. psu.edu) The few dollars that it cost for a termite inspection could NOT possibly compare to the $160K PLUS that is would have cost me to purchase and then replace the beams in the basement, walls, and attic. Larry went to touch the beam and it crumbled and turned to sand right in his hands. Needless to the OUTSTANDING and DETAILED Inspection Report brought me freedom. I graciously backed out of the contract for said home. No questions asked! The second time I used Larry Smyj from Aurora Home Inspections was in January 2018. This home was much newer and built around 1959 / 1960. The sellers were asking $225K. This home is in the same town as the first town. It had been neglected by its owners who had filed for bankruptcy. This home was in dire need of extensive repairs. It had all the original windows and doors, a second layer of shingles, boiler - furnace, reeked of heavy smoke from both owners. The hot water heater and most of the appliances were all well past their useful life. The finished basement had been built without permits and inspections. The owners made a second and private apartment for the themselves and moved their adult son upstairs. The illegally put in an electrical box and wired the home without proper supervision. The threw a gas stove over in the corner with no ventilation, the covered the basement jacks utilizing fake columns. They called the columns "decor". Guess what? Termites were found all on the outside of the home. But they could not fool a trained inspector like the one and ONLY Larry Smyj of Aurora Home Inspection.Yep! I backed out of this home too. Yep! I received my $5K deposit back as well. I just worked with Larry Smyj again on Friday June 29, 2018 for a 3rd time. Three times a charm! Right? Right! This last (hopefully) inspection was oh so worth it! I found a good home! This home on the outskirts of the other homes. Since we love the area we wanted to stay close to our Catholic Church and school activities. Once again because of Larry's sharp eye and expertise he deemed the furnace shot and in dire need of a replacement since it was purchased in 1980, the electrical box is loaded with corrosion, the roof leaked into the attic, and a list of other items that require immediate attention. My attorney just submitted a Letter of Repair Request and a copy of Larry's 48 page detailed and professional Inspection Report to the sellers attorney today. Guess what?? No termites! This house is a keeper! Thank you Larry Smyj from Aurora Home inspection for you professionalism and expertise! Your patience is a Blessing too because you have to tolerate folks like me! God Bless! Grace, D.

RUN! Everything went well with installation and I was happy until the problems began…read more No one answers the phone at the location Service technicians make appointments when you are able to contact them on their phones, then cancel appointments or don't show up at scheduled time. They don't call to tell you they are running late or call to reschedule. You have to keep calling them. I purchased and oxygenated water system, soft water system, and Reverse Osmosis system. The problems first began when water started coming out of the tap the color of milk. We were never told this was part of the oxygenation process by sales or upon installation. People are afraid to drink the water when they see the color. Then the water from every tap tasted of salt and was undrinkable, I had to buy bottled water after opening a fortune on this system. When I spoke to Stephen in the office he refused to get someone out until the following week. it took two service calls for someone to resolve that issue. I was told by both the sales representative and service techs that Stephen owned the company. However, the one and only time I was able to get anyone in the office regarding the problems was Stephen and he denied it. A few weeks ago my water was no longer soft, I reached a technician on his personal phone and scheduled an appointment. On the morning of the appointment I received a call from the technician because he he had to cancel the appointment and would call me to reschedule when he got to the office. I did not receive a call and had to call and text him the end of that week to reschedule the appointment. The day of that appointment I received a call that he was running late and he gave me an updated time of arrival, he showed up late. In addition, I smelt a strong odor of beer from him but did not confront him because I was alone. When the technician checked the water upon arrival and before he left, he confirmed the water was hard. However, he assured me that after it went through it's cycle the problem would be resolved. While I was venting my frustration to the technician about the problems we were experiencing he actually told me we were not experiencing any problems. I then had to run through the list again and he insinuated that I was the one that had the problem and I was lucky I wasn't being charged for all the service calls. Once again, I never heard from anyone to schedule the follow up appointment My husband then reached him and an appointment was scheduled. My husband told his employer he would be in late because he wanted to be here for the appointment. The appointment was scheduled for 9:00 AM today 11/21/22 and no show or call. At 9:11 AM my husband place his first call to the technician and his call went to his voice mail. At 9:17 AM he called the office only to be sent to a voice mail at every extension. Three more calls were placed to the technician with no response. We had the phone number of another technician that had been to our house and my husband reached that technician. The technician that was supposed to be at the appointment was with him so he passed the phone to him. The technician insisted with my husband that my husband strong armed him to come on Monday and that he wanted to come on Tuesday instead. My husband explained he took time off of work, because this was the day and time the technician told him when they spoke. If he said he wouldn't be able to get out until Tuesday, he would have scheduled the appointment for Tuesday and gone in late. My husband was told the other technician would arrive around noon and he would eventually arrive as well. We are awaiting their arrival. I DO NOT RCOMMEND THIS COMPANY! We spent a fortune for these systems and the service is horrendous. In addition to having to purchase water because it was undrinkable due to the salt, now we have water spots on everything because the water is hard. I have just filed a formal complaint with the finance company they use. I feel they should be aware of the problems with dealers they do business with. They tried to reach them as well but were unable to contact anyone at the office either. I feel as though we have been scammed.

Tom Bove and company did an excellent job and were professional & friendly. They showed up on time, worked quickly, safely, and efficiently, and didn't charge us an arm-and-a leg. We couldn't have asked for a better experience during what can be a tricky and occasional stressful process. More details below: We bought our house years ago with the tank already disconnected, cleaned out, filled with gravel, and buried. We figured we'd get rid of it so we don't have to deal with it years from now if/when we want to sell. After using Eco Logic Environmental to locate the precise spot of the tank, Matt and Tom (not the owner) from Above Environmental came to our house with a small excavator, dug up the tank, pulled it out of the ground, checked for leaks and tested for soil contamination - no leaks nor any contamination. Matt was incredibly skilled with the excavator in a tight space and Tom did everything that the digger didn't do, which was a lot. The inspector came later in the day to check out the site. All was good. Matt and Tom and the excavator came back a day later and filled the hole. Done. Overall, the folks at Above Environmental were nice, professional, fast and did a good job of cleaning up. Can't recommend them highly enough.

The crew that came out was friendly, polite and completely professional. I'd definitely hire them again.

He communicated every step of the way before, during, and after rendering his services. He was kind and showed up 15 minutes prior to our scheduled time and even gave me a parting gift after the inspection! Tim walked through the house, inspected the roof, crawl spaces, cabinets, doors, lights, anything that could be inspected Tim covered. I felt more confident in my decision to purchase the home after Tim's walkthrough. He offered explanations, solutions, and even provided me with additional materials to read post inspection. I would not hesitate to recommend Tim to anybody purchasing a home. He provides an analysis of his finds complete with photos shortly after the inspection. He is VERY military friendly and understood that I needed last minute, fast, and efficient service because I was going on orders the next day . He offered to expedite my analysis free of charge and gave me a military discount. Did I mention that I called him last minute and he was able to fit me into his schedule?! Almost every person involved was shady and underhanded, which is why Iucked out by having Chuck and Todd on my side. Todd did a great and thorough job inspecting the home. Because of the hoarder's clutter in the home, a dishonest seller and resentful tenants that would barely let us in, he wasn't able to inspect some aspects of the home, and Chuck volunteered to come back before closing if there was access and inspect the areas/things that were blocked on the original inspection (at no-charge). These are the most straightforward, on the level guys. Reasonable and on your side. The deal ended up going south, and the seller's agent/new buyers tried to pressure Chuck into giving them the inspection report and he immediately called to tell me, I would've never known, but he is so honest and legit--- he's that guy. This entire experience has been extraordinarily disheartening and if it wasn't for the great guys at above grade I would have 1) been doubly screwed over, and 2) lost all faith in humanity. Also, the phone support they provided me and going through the inspection report and talking through the process was beyond expectations. They are seriously great, we are still looking and without a doubt I'm going to be hiring them to inspect the next place.

Chuck made scheduling very easy and was very accommodating when planning our inspection.
