It's a nursery. It does it's job and the folks are always nice and easy to talk to. Several have been here for years. That's always a good sign. As for plants etc, what they have is really good. They don't have as many options as some other nurseries, but they make up for that being closer to home and more compact and organized. Non franchise/corporate nurseries with less locations, are always a lot more disorganized. read more

So I brought back an avocado from my yard in Tanzania while I lived there so I could have a living souvenir to remind me of such a special time in my life. My tree is about 1 1/2 years old and started noticing the leaves browning a bit. I panicked and called pikes for advice and Allison came to my rescue! She helped me figure out the problem and plan out a treatment! She is an absolute angel and is so knowledgeable. You can tell how passionate she is by how she tailors her advice and invests in the well-being of your most beloved plants! The customer service experience has been nothing short of incredible- coming from a bartender of 10+ years! The store has a great selection of indoor and outdoor plants. The staff is knowledgable and although, normally very busy with plant tasks, they will always stop to help you find something or answer a question. I only wish that the store was open a little later on week days, so that I could shop more! read more

I have to give a shout out to our Pike's nursery for the amazing young man who helped us today. My grandson was interested in the carnivorous plants. He took time to explain how to care for them, where they are found in nature, etc. He patiently answered all of the many questions he asked. Another customer walked by and commented, " we need more people like him!" I have to agree. Thanks for turning a shopping errand with Granny into an educational adventure and a fun afternoon! Pike's Nursery is about the only choice for gardening supplies in the area apart from the big box home center stores. You can get some better prices at the big box stores, but I usually come to Pike's Nursery for buying plants because they usually have better quality plants and a much bigger selection. It's worth it to pay a little and get some really nice looking plants, unless you're in the market for something really basic like a run-of-the-mill pansy. Pike's Nursery has helpful staff that can answer questions that you might have about the right fertilizer or right type of weed killer. You can't get that level of service at the big box stores. Most of the Pike's Nursery locations are similar in size and selection, and this one on Johnson Ferry is similar to others in the area. There is another location on Roswell Road near the 120 loop that has a bigger selection and is recommended if you are looking for trees and shrubs. They offer a money back guarantee on most of their plants if the plant dies. I haven't yet had to take advantage of that, but it's a good feature to know about. One problem I have with Pike's Nursery is that their frequent buyer program (called "Play in the Dirt") is one of the least effective ones I have seen. You accumulate points for your purchases and if you get a certain amount of points within a season you have a limited timeframe in which to get back a credit on a purchase. The problem with this is that until recently there wasn't any way to keep track of your points, and they don't send notifications when you qualify for a credit (or at least they never sent me notifications when I qualified a couple of years ago). It appears they have recently improved this since on their website I see a new feature listed for members to create online accounts where they can view their balance. I plan on taking advantage of this feature since it might finally make their frequent buyer program worthwhile. I also wish they kept a little better supply later in the Fall season. November is still a very good time to do planting in the Atlanta area, but by November I have noted that their stocks are pretty well depleted. The same seems to also occur in early summer. It seems you need to hit their stores in early Spring and early Fall for the best selections, just based on my random experiences. read more

This is a good nursery that has been in the neighborhood for many years. Unfortunately, the teenage/college age cashiers are rude and argumentative and give attitude. Do not shop here in the late afternoon/early evening; only shop in the mornings/early afternoons when the adult cashiers are on shift. They are much nicer. read more

Purchased 20 bales of pine straw and was very disappointed in the quality. I thought HD had bad straw but this was no better. Loaded with sticks, mold, leaves and cones. I would have expected much better from Pike. read more

Husband and I came in on Friday to grab some plants for our decorative pots. Their selection is much larger than Home Depot, and the prices are better on some things. Husband is the one with the green thumb, and his only complaint was that the plants didn't seem to be displayed in a way to find things with ease. We spent a good 30 minutes looking for small individual potato vine plants, and he felt they should have been displayed with the large pots of potato vines (I tend to agree that would make the most sense). The staff was eh. I think we irritated the young cashier as we attempted to organize our loot for him. He just wanted to get us checked out and out of his hair. They do have fun promotions that are kid friendly. On Friday, we walked away with a free bag of ladybugs to release in our garden. That is just the coolest thing to a three year old. read more

I go to Pike for plant advise, I am having issues with my plants I take Pike sample leaves, they tell me I have black spot and that I should use neem oil. I ask will it be a problem if the temps are in the 90's, like they have been. I am told not as long as I use it after the sun goes down or really earlier in the AM. I foolish listen. If my plants are harmed by this I am going to the better business bureau with a complaint. I pay a lot more money at Pike's for plants and products at least put people in place that know what they are talking about. read more

This one is great. The other in East Cobb lies(Roswell Rd.), say things are out of season like lady bugs and praying matice. Reality, they just lie then order products people need. Avoid the Pike Nurseries on Roswell Road and go to this one. It might be a farther drive but it stocks what you need.. read more
