This past weekend was the museum's grand opening. Parking was available on 22nd Street. The place was easy to find upstairs in the building, with free admission. The room was filled with photographs, recordings, and artifacts showcasing the history of the Dogpatch and Potrero Hill waterfront and celebrating SF's industrial era with mining equipment, locomotives, and warships from the 1800's.
Exhibits included a history wall, Ohlone cultural display, church descriptions, old household items and re-creations, Seals Stadium seats, the Bethlehem ship building, and items from the USS Hornet in Alameda, USS Oregon, and more. I especially enjoyed learning the story of Irish Hill (the Potrero's lost neighborhood). The friendly folks on site were eager to share the history of many of the objects and displays presented in the museum. We appreciated our visit, getting to know more about these areas of SF and how they've changed over time. read more
