I got the teriyaki ramen noodles and spring rolls. You get quite a big bowl and the teriyaki chicken was delicious. I am quite an eater and even I got full from the bowl. The springrolls were just the same as regular ones. The place is quite big and comfy, when you order your food they give you this funny looking thing that vibrates when your food is ready. You then go get your food and give them the funny looking thing. The workers are super friendly and helpful. You can see them working in the kitchen. Also they serve halal food which is not so common in asian restaurants.

The concept is simple, you order and pay, pick-up your order and eat. You can also choose to do take away and bring your order home with you. Due to the fact that it is designed to serve quick and filling meals, the menu is focused on main dishes and noodles. Food: 4/5 The food here is tasty and familiar, it is the standard dishes I would expect from a place like this - HK BBQ meat such as crispy pork, soy sauce chicken. The reason why I gave it 4 stars is that there isn't really anything else like it around. Of course, you can get the same take away from St. Anny Food but the difference in quality is tremendous (this is much better!!). Full Moon Express is the sort of place that I would go back to when I want typical Cantonese food. My recommendations: Anything from HK BBQ grill Service: 5/5 Super fast, this is the McDonald's of Chinese food. Atmosphere: 4/5 Cantonese cooking creates a lot of grease and I was surprised by how clean this place was. The counters are made of stainless steel and it just felt like everything was sparkling clean... I wished my kitchen looked like this! Value: 5/5 This is clearly subjective... In comparison to what you would pay for a meal anywhere else, this place is cheap, tasty and filling. However, I can't help but think about how much I would have paid in New York and how much it would cost to make it myself (though clearly my version would not be as tasty...)

This is a surprising place... and an eclectic one. When I saw the mixed-up cuisine-focus on the…read moresign I was a bit confused at first. Touted primarily as an Indonesian Restaurant, it also qualifies itself as an Indian eatery, as well as presenting the cuisine of Suriname - and doing it all under the umbrella of being Halal (which may also mean "Pradesh"). Now that's a lot of cuisines, all from different corners of the globe. But then I recalled my week shooting a movie in Belize a decade ago, and there was the connection. In Belize there seems to be an unwritten rule (or tradition) that was proudly announced by our liaison from the film office. And that was that ALL OF THE GROCERY STORES (the country only had small mom & pop places) in Belize City were owned and run by Indians from India; and the most popular food, being Chinese steam table take-out joints like we have in America (fried rice, spring rolls, noodles, sweet & sour chicken/shrimp, spicy saucy stir fried meat & vegies, etc...), and these places were always packed with lines around the corner. They were also ALL OWNED AND RUN by Vietnamese extended families. And the Vietnamese community mixed very well with the Indian families, having similarly imported ingredients from afar, as well as exotic flavors, similar spices, rice based cuisines, and they both cooked curries. Now for Suriname and Indonesia and how those two food cultures fit into the menu profile at Restaurant Riaz. I have eaten a lot of Indonesian food in my day, and its flavor pallet is very similar to India, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, all using coconut milk, peanuts, chili-peppers, potatoes, green peppers, fish-sauce, vegies, and similar meats and seafoods, plus blends of sweet and salty and spicy and sour; and all of them use rice. Now the thread that sews Suriname to these others is that it was also a Dutch Colony, as were Indonesia and parts of India (like Sri Lanka [Ceylon at the time]). So the Dutch created huge incentives for the Indians in their empire to relocate to the sparsely populated Suriname; and these Indians brought their food with them. So when I ate lunch in New York City at a Surinamese place in The Bronx, I was surprised to see the menu filled with Curries, Chutney, Samosas, Fried Pakoras, and everything was served with rice and Indian Roti, (an oily flour tortilla-like bread), often accompanied by a small bowl of rich brown Curry-Gravy to dip into. The food from Suriname was Literally INDIAN FOOD. Thus the culinary story of Restaurant Riaz and its diverse menu started to make a lot of sense. The Indonesian food complimented the Surinamese meals; and the Indian dishes blended seamlessly with the other cuisines. And the Roti and Curry-Gravies went perfectly with everything. Restaurant Riaz is a big success story in my book. I can't wait to come here again - and this time I am going to bring a whole bunch of friends.

Restaurant Riaz - Restaurant Riaz first opened in 1981. But don't be fooled by the word "Drinks" on the sign. They have lots of non-alcoholic drinks only.

They have a special 'eco' version (which stands for economically friendly) for 5 euros, which is mashed curry potatoes and two pieces of chicken wrapped inside a roti with in a piece of plastic. Very simple and very tasty. Spend a few euros more and they add vegetables (stringbeans), or more meat and a hard boiled masala egg. The selection of meat consists of: lamb, chicken (with or without bone) and duck, or you can get a vegetarian version. Side dishes are pumpkin and eggplant, which go very nicely with the roti too. Since they are Hindus, you will not find any beef on the menu. Also good to know, is that the meat is all halal, so pork is also not an option. The other things they sell besides rotis are some sandwiches with either boneless chicken in masala or chicken livers. And a bara (which is made from ground mung beans, turned into a round patty) which is deep fried and tastes really good! It's a small restaurant that's basically more a takeaway restaurant with tables for people who enjoy eating their roti right away. You order at the counter and pay there too (before or after your meal). They're open 6 days a week (from noon to about 9pm) and closed on Mondays. They accept cash and debit cards only. One of my favorite roti places in The Hague for sure!
