On their website, I scheduled a pickup for books, just books. The website gave a checkbox for books so I checked the box for "Books". I placed them on the porch, shrink-wrapped in several bundles and waited for pickup. The driver arrived, looked at the stack of books and said, "Just books? We don't take books." He supposedly called his supervisor and the driver said the supervisor would call me --- which he NEVER did. Driver said the supervisor said "no books" and the driver left without picking up my donation of books. I then called their 800 number and the guy on the phone tried to twist the facts by saying the driver didn't pick up the books "because they weren't in boxes or bags." THAT IS NOT WHAT THE ONSITE DRIVER OR HIS SUPERVISOR SAID -- THEY SAID "WE DON'T TAKE BOOKS". Period. No books. THE DRIVER SAID NOTHING ABOUT BAGS/BOXES FOR THE BOOKS. HE SAID WE DON'T TAKE BOOKS. PERIOD!! No, they want the family jewels instead. I will NEVER try to donate to this organization again. Inserting their own narrative about bags/boxes after the fact, twisting the facts, makes them LIARS! Be sure to video your encounter with the driver because they lie. Driver drove by my house and reported to his company that there were no donations for pickup. I had two signs saying Donation Pickup and received an email saying I could add more items to my donation. This is the second time that the items weren't picked up. The first time, they went through the boxes and took only a few things and left the rest all scattered on the ground around in a mess. When I called to inquire this time, representative wanted to reschedule again for a week later. It's scheduled to rain in the next day or two and they won't take wet donations ...or dry donations either for that matter. I wanted to do the right thing and donate items to charity but this company makes it impossible. read more

Pickup Please ( Covina ) provides a horrible donation pickup service for the Vietnam Veterans of America. The service failed to pickup my donations 4 consecutive times. The service's customer service representatives were very incompetent about resolving my issue. Despite confirming my pickups thru their reply only confirmation online e-mail and text system, the service was a complete failure. read more

I scheduled a donation pick up over a week in advance. I regularly donate due to being the daughter of s vietnam vet. Today I had 6 large bags and a small bookcase waiting for pickup on my front porch visible from the street. I got a call from Rosie stating the truck was in front of my home, and there were no items out?  I told Rosie that they must be at the wrong address because no one is in front of my home! Then the truck arrived and took everything but the small bookcase.  I called Rosie back and she said the truck driver refused to pick up the bookcase because it had a scratch? It is a vintage bookcase, yes it has scratches on it but is lightweight, usable and nice looking. (Attached is a photo). When did the truck driver ( who can't find the correct address) start designating what he will and will not take? I only donate per your guidelines!!! I regret to write this review. About 2 weeks ago I scheduled a pick-up and explained what the items were. Everything was confirmed for today June 8, 2023 which happens to be my 44th wedding anniversary. We had a two year old, mint condition, head board, foot board, side boards and slates and all hardware. The manual/instructions were in the original packaging. Last night and this morning we received calls to confirm today's appointment. We confirmed. When asked if one person could carry the items, I answered, "Yes, my 70-year old husband could and so could my 20+ year old son". Today we all waited from 8am to 5:30 pm inside our home for any phone calls from the driver. In addition, a family member periodically checked outside to "see if the driver got lost". No driver showed up. No one from VVA called. So I called VVA to find out what happened. I was told it was a "missed pick-up" and that the driver had the discretion not to pick-up the furniture. Well, NO DRIVER CAME...PERIOD. When asked if I wanted to re-schedule the pick-up, I replied, "No, our furniture will go to landfill". Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. Well, instead of helping a vet in need, our furniture will go to the dump tomorrow and add to America's land fill. SHAME ON VIETNAM VETERANS OF AMERICA for their incompetence!!!! read more

Still love this thrift store! Great finds. Due to COVID, they took the mirrors down to prevent trying on and people being close together. There aren't any signs that say "don't try on" but when I went to put a jacket over my jacket a worker said I couldn't. Obviously, it doesn't make buying thrifting clothes much easier with the no try on rule/no mirrors which made me put down a $35 Guess Jeans Jacket but these are the times for now. If I could I give them less than one star, I schedule a pick up Wednesday, no show I had to call them to find why no pick up.. the operator was not sure or even checked with dispatcher to find out, so I rescheduled to Friday. Last night someone stole 3 boxes. I called them to ask when they would bring coming by, the operator advised me that the driver couldn't find the place then the story changed to he drove by and didn't see anything! I've been to a few thrift stores in my lifetime, and this one by far is my to go to! You simply can't go wrong with a huge selection, and on top of that it's super super cheap! The stores organization skills is probably one of the best I've ever seen, every time I go. Majority of my closet have been from finds at this store and yes it's a little drive compared to the close goodwill but goodwill has nothing on the community thrift store. Tuesday, April 9, 2019 Vietnam Veterans of America Thrift Store a.k.a. "Community Thrift Store". Old vintage looking building built in 1963. I can swear this was built as a movie theater originally. Possibly, a skating rink or a large department store like a WoolCo or ZODYS. Driving me crazy that I can't remember what this building was, but I do remember coming here as a kid in the late 1960s, early 70s long before it was ever a thrift store! I love this thrift store because they have such a high turnover of merchandise. You can go one day, back again the next day and not see the same things. Everything is different! This is a great thrift store as far as thrift stores go. Salvation Army and Goodwill are pathetic compared to Community Thrift Store. I've been coming here for at least 20 years. I mainly come to look through the vinyl records, CD's and on occasion, will look through the men's shirts. I have bought shirts here that look like they have never been worn even once. Within the last year or so they gave this place a facelift and they moved all the electronic stuff over to another building across the way. Still taking me time to get used to that. Haven't decided if I like that or not. The thing I dislike the most at community thrift store is how filthy dirty my hands are after touching anything in here. Gross and unsanitary. Obviously they don't clean anything before it goes out to the floor to be sold. I always make sure I keep some Clorox wipes, hand wipes or Purell hand disinfectant in my car. Who knows where this donated stuff has come from. Tip: Never try on clothes here unless you go immediately home afterwards and take a shower with antibacterial soap. Tip: Be prepared. Always keep some hand disinfectant (Purell) or Clorox/Lysol wipes in your car! Don't touch the steering wheel of your car until you have cleaned/disinfected your hands first. Tip: Don't wear the clothes you buy here until you've washed them first. Cash only and no refunds. Prices here are generally pretty reasonable although they have raised the prices recently and they now charge sales tax for everything! I remember they didn't used to do that until recently. I'm not super happy about that. That's California for you. But...I still think this is a great thrift store! Tip: Avoid coming here on Wednesdays unless you want to get frustrated trying to compete for a parking spot. Terrible. Wednesdays are the worst days to come here. Everybody that comes regularly knows on Wednesdays most things are 50% discounted for seniors. I would rather pay regular price than join the hordes of people that are in the store on Wednesdays. One star rating is definitely warranted, this is a very, very shady organization! They claim to 'attempt to contact you' but this is a LIE! I don't know if they treat the drivers bad, but my belief is these guys are lazy as all get out, they will find ANY excuse to NOT pick up your items, even if they are clearly marked and put exactly as required. The staff is INCREDIBLY rude and right now they aren't even letting you try on jackets which is absolutely ridiculous. I'm not sure how they have so many staff and yet the place is a constant train wreck. The staff spends more time talking to each other than they do doing anything productive. To make matters worse, it is a pandemic and the employees don't seem to have a concept of either personal space or one way aisles. One employee specifically followed me around the store and sent a security guard to follow us as well. I've never felt more targeted in my life and I absolutely would recommend people to look into where their money goes before they shop here. Unlike other stores, it definitely does not go back into the community and it is definitely not a store that encourages goodwill among the community. The unfortunate thing is sometimes they have good things, but they're often in such poor shape it's not worth it. I'd definitely also check to see if the clothes they sell are knockoffs. Especially the bags, which I've noticed are often really poor knockoffs. It also seems like the employees are incapable of being able to tell knockoffs from the real thing. Even the clothes that are legit are overpriced. They try to sell incredibly old clothes for more money than you would have paid new (Papaya, Forever 21, etc.). I was clearly holding a bag from shopping from the main store while waiting in line. It was up until i was shopping inside to be told that i wasn't supposed to do that. So, i had to leave. The guy who was letting ppl in, saw me, and said "oh yeah i forgot to tell you about the bag thing, huh". YEA NO KIDDING. So now i had wait on line again. CASH ONLY - there's an ATM inside next to the express checkout. The cash only policy is super annoying. Even thrift stores take cards these days. Oh well though ... I still feel like this place is worth it! There's tons of parking. Remember, this place took over an old grocery store building, so if you drive around to the back of the building, there's way more parking that you can't see from the street. I feel like many people don't realize this and they cause the front part to be a complete disaster of congestion. Lol There are bathrooms right inside, but no fitting rooms. Clear signs on the bathrooms, too, that they can't be used for fitting rooms. This place is lacking in housewares, and their electronics/furniture store front next door is nothing impressive. You have to enter the latter from a diff door, heads up. The other housewares are in the main part with the clothes. They line all the walls with them. I wish they'd re-work that design because it causes major traffic jams with people parking their carts in the way and just gawking at housewares. It's a mess! Clothing tho - A+! Yes, this store isn't organized by size, but for god's sake people, this is a thrift store! Haha it's very hard to find a sized thrift store. The clothes are organized by color, style, and gender. There's sooo much, you could spend hours in the store! Last Sat when I went, all tags except 2 colors were 50% off. They have an IG and seem to keep it pretty updated with their specials, so watch for that. Compared to other area thrift stores, the clothing quality at this one can't be beat. It seems like they don't even bother putting out crap that's severely damaged like Goodwill and Salvation Army will. Also, the number of good brands was plentiful! Plenty of Coach bags for under $25. Goodwill charges at least $50 for even the most tattered and POS bags. I found the pricing funny - but to the advantage of the consumer. Whoever prices clearly doesn't know the better brands. For example, next to pairs of AE and Hollister jeans priced at $7-8, I found Paige and Joe's jeans from Nordstrom for $3-4. Sure, the pricer person caught the more basic Nordstrom brands ... True Religion and Sevens were priced higher ... but the other Nordstrom brands that are better quality IMO ... overlooked. 4/5 because of the cash only policy, parking congestion, and lack of housewares. read more

Anyways, I found the 5th Harry Potter book here for $2 though I had to hide it while I had to drive out to get cash. Place was packed and the aisles were filled with carts and people. Community Thrift Store in Covina is now owned by Red, White and Blue conglomerate of thrift stores. Unlike its Valley Thrift Store which I do not recommend, this thrift store is still one I enjoy visiting while in the area or when I feel like getting out of town. One recent change at this location which surprised me, but I also think was a nice addition, was it's expansion into a recently vacated store front next to it. The prices here range from fairly good to moderately high depending on what you are looking for. Similar to its Valley Thrift Store, this location has a rotating color tag system somewhat similar to the Goodwill when products drop to 50% off. The store is large, the products are generally in good shape, lots and lots of clothes. I enjoy looking at the baseball caps, which are moderately priced. I visit this location several times a year since it is a 30 mile road trip for me, and I often come away empty handed, but overall I still like this location. The overall atmosphere or "vibe" has changed a little at this location, which makes me believe that perhaps the former long term manager may no longer be at this location since Red, White and Blue purchased it. This store is big. About twice as big as its Valley Thrift Store. If you are in the area, this would be a thrift store you could easily enjoy wasting a couple of hours shopping and dreaming in. One disadvantage of this thrift store, similar to Valley Thrift Store is that they only accept cash in hand. No credit cards or debits cards at the counter, however they do have their own ATM Machine if you feel like paying the withdrawal fee and happen to have forgotten to swing by the bank on the way. Something I am often guilty of doing. I generally walk out empty handed on those days since I do not want to use their ATM machine. This thrift store has a really big parking lot shared with several other businesses and finding parking can be a problem. The aisles at this location are generally wide enough and laid out enough that someone with a disability or wheelchair should be able to navigate the aisles reasonably well with the cooperation of other shoppers. One observation, similar to my Valley Thrift Store observation, is that during the week, this location seems to be less crowded than when it was under its previous owner. In the past, this store had a long line at the check out everyday of the week, all day long. My most recent visits here the lines have been relatively short and the store is has been much less crowded. I generally wander around this store for about three hours, different days of the week, different hours of the day. If you are in this area, it may be worth taking a look. read more

Came here yesterday afternoon after reading about 50% off certain items each day (except Wed, unless you are a senior citizen). This place has a lot of clothes, just a ton of aisles of organized, clean aisles of clothes. And like previous yelpers had mentioned, the clothes seem to be in great condition, no rips, stains, etc. There is also sections of jewelry, misc. items, furniture, bikes, etc. Employees here were pretty nice and helpful when I asked which tags were 50% off. When I came here around 3:30 pm, there were quite a bit of people in here, but it wasn't crowded. Oh and by the way, this place is cash only, so make sure you bring cash or you won't be able to buy anything awesome. I'm a newbie when it comes to thrifting I only begun about 4 weeks ago and I'm hooked! I first only stuck to Goodwill then I discovered Community thrift! & it is a treasure! I bought men Levi's for $5 bucks yup 501 men's Levi's high wasted. Awesome for DIYs! I went in today and every color tag except the blue tag is 50% with a senior citizens discount. I'm 24 and I fell in love with a Yamaha keyboard priced for $34.95 I made a senior friend while waiting in line and got their discount! I am so grateful for her generosity. The children's toys are awesome as well I've bought License Disney dolls Ariel $1.95 & A large size talking Boo from monsters Inc. One more cool find was brand new Minitonka shoes for $12 retail are between $30-$50 I can seriously go on and on and keep raving about this thrift shop I obviously really enjoy the community and I hope you can as well. read more

I usually really like this store because it's so big and has so many products but there are a few issues about it that are very annoying but the really big one is... 1. If you found an item YOU REALLY LIKE but there is NO TAG on it, they won't sell it to you! WTH?! Seriously?! I asked the cashier if there was supervisor to give me a price for the item I wanted and she said there isn't anyone for that. On a Saturday?! Really?! Your busiest day? Makes no sense at all. Imagine you're all excited for your purchase and then they tell you can't buy it cuz it has no tag. It just baffles me. *** I was going to give this place four stars but this was the main reason I dropped it to three, that really irritated me and messed up my shopping high*** These next two are small but it does affect my rating from 5 stars to 4 stars 2. CASH ONLY! Seeing the size of this place and the traffic it gets I am surprised they don't take cards. They should really get with the times because only a small percentage of people carry cash now-n-days. 3. No mirrors on aisle end caps. They have two mirrors towards the back where everyone and their mom is trying to squeeze to take a look on how shoes or clothing look on them. ***oh yeah there are no dressing rooms so you have to do try one over your clothes*** There's a mirror by jewelry and like one more somewhere else I forget but it's definitely not enough for the size of the store and the traffic it gets and it not having dressing rooms. read more

I love coming here because you can usually find a deal or two, but that's it. I never expect to find more than two items that I want to buy on any given visit. Make sure you pay attention to the scrolling screen when you first walk in (to your left, above the bathrooms) to see what the special is for the day. And don't worry about the smell; you'll go nose-blind within a half-hour or so. But yes, it smells like funk and sweat people when you first walk in. Check behind the counter if you're looking for more high-end items. Remember, it's a thrift store, and there are deals to be had. Because of this, expect no mercy from your fellow customers. You may be poked, prodded, or otherwise violated, but it's all in the name of saving a buck. And remember that there's a donation container outside. If you really have no use for old clothing, electronics, shoes, golf clubs, etc., consider donating them here so that I can buy them up for cheap later. Thanks. read more

Whenever I come to the IE to visit my parents, I try to make a stop at Community Thrift largely to hunt up some new-to-me clothes at a bargain. I've found all sorts of brands here, from Banana Republic to Zara to Levi's, for pretty cheap (e.g. nice velvet shirts and shorts for $5-6). Pricing can be pretty sporadic, though - last time I went I noticed that Nike things, for example, tended to be way pricier comparatively to other (equally nice or nicer) brands here. This would be a 5 star place if it weren't for the fact that there are no fitting rooms - I don't mind chucking on shirts/jackets over whatever I'm wearing, but it's really hard to tell if pants fit me right and I don't always have the foresight to come in yoga pants or smth. read more

Even half off the prices are still high and you really don't know if things work or not. You can find the same items online 50 percent cheaper even brand new. I really like the fact that it's color coded so it makes it easier to look for things. I needed a shoulder bag and they have varieties of them. Finally decided on this one and saw the tag with the big number " 3 " on it. I thought it was just $3 so why not ? If it's more than that, of course I'll pass. We stood in line and number 9 white lady was helping us. She charged me $3.99 + tax so $4 something and my husband was wondering how come it was more and isn't $3 + tax. He asked the lady: Oh isn't it $3 something ? White Lady: Look at the tag So we look at the tag and saw that small .99 on the tag next to the $3 that almost covered it up. WELL RUDE AS FUCK LADY. I'm impress on how poorly the customer service is and very much dissatisfied with the sales people who help in the jewelry department. They changed their rules as they like. I was asked in a foul way to pay for my items immediately, but the customer before and after me were able to placed their items on hold. Lastly I'm a veteran and I asked if they offered discount for military to discovered that they don't but, they advertise that they are in business to help veterans. Per my experience they only help the people they like. I'm taking my donations and business to organizations that are truly in business to help others and treat everyone equal. read more

This place has a lot of treasures. It's my go to thrift store. I find a lot of nice wool coats and sweaters. Recently I had a book drive for my school and I was surprised to see how many wonderful and beautifully packaged books that they had here. They even sell new books and I did not see any ragged ones. The sign says Community Thrift Store but I guess it goes by a different name on this site. I took my husband and kids here today (Saturday). After 5 minutes by himself in the men's clothing, my husband said he couldn't take it anymore and wanted to leave. There were just too many people and crying kids, I suppose. I could have handled that if I were shopping alone but I didn't want to put him through it. As we approached the front of the store to leave where we had entered, a small, greying security guard told me to go through a different door that he was pointing at and then he said, "She can't read the sign." talking about me. First of all, this thrift store has a security guard but what's really bad is he obviously has no concept of what it means to represent his employers, or how to be a professional while he's on the clock. This is not the atmosphere I want to be in when I'm shopping. read more
