This museum should in no way be called an Indian museum. If anything it should be called a fetish…read moremuseum because that's the feel I got from it. Most of the artifacts look to be gathered from gift shops, "Indian trading posts" or roadside souvenir stands by someone fascinated by someone else's culture. While there I also learned about the Koshare Dancers. Non native/tribal member Boy Scouts playing dress up and putting on performances of dances that are not theirs to steal. As someone who grew up in Boy Scouts I am very saddened to find out that they have repeatedly been told to end their dances but have not. They do not respect the cultures they stole from if they continue their performances. This goes against the Scouts Law to be trustworthy, courteous, kind or obedient enough to honor the tribal requests.

Went to school here and earned an Associates of Art degree. Every faculty member cares about the…read moresuccess of students in class. Instructors are very nice and approachable to discuss material work, even if you are shy and timid. They help students understand the course. They believe in teaching rather than indoctrinating. I also played Soccer there and every sport program respects other programs and students. In my years of going to college, I've been to three. Two in Colorado and one in South Dakota. And nothing compares to how Otero makes you feel like you're at home. Oh and if you do something wrong, everyone in town knows about it and who you are. But the sporting events are a amazing to go to. It is by far one of the best decisions I made for higher education. Also, I have never once came across any racist employees at that school.

I plan on attending a few classes during this coming fall since I missed summer registration. You know, to get my education on before moving to a more populated area of Colorado. Otero Junior College isn't far from my temporary spot in Rocky Ford. Two towns away, this college offers great programs being in the middle of nowhere. The campus is well groomed with ample lighting. From the outside looking in, it looks far better then my old bunny infested community college in the LBC (Long Beach City College in Cali to be exact). The staff that answered the phone in admissions was also pretty cordial and gave me a few tips as far as what I should do to enroll and avoid the high non-resident fees. I have yet to start the entire process since I'm now in limbo on attending because we don't plan to stay in the area very long. Nonetheless, their cosmetology classes and medical rich curriculum is very enticing, indeed! I heard their nursing program is top notch as well.

This movie theater has been here as long as I can remember. I seem to remember only one theater…read moreback in the day and a significantly larger screen, but now they have two screens, fewer seats per screen, and a digital projection system that is adequate, but lagging behind what major chain theaters boast. The folks that run the place are super friendly and do their best to make everyone happy. They also keep the place clean and tidy (a serious challenge in La Junta if I remember my teenage years at all) and generally seem to like their work.

They said absolutely. I said it would be an hour or so because we had to go into La Junta. This was at 1230 pm. My receipt had the time on it. At 215 pm I came back. No one would wait on me. They were talking to a guy at the counter right next to me, who offered them $23 for some peppers. Guess what? Those were the SAME ones I paid for. The owner came up and said they assumed I was not coming back but she would TRY to help me. I was dumbfounded. She snapped at me and said "you said an hour". They were open for several more hours..I never said an hour, I said AT LEAST an hour. Why would it matter? No one would pay $50 for something and then not return, esp when not even close to closing and only 1 hr 45 mins went by. I PAID for these and clearly said at least an hour. No matter what they were PAID for. I asked if she had sold them for $23 since I paid $50. She whirled on me. Called me names, said I was rude. Was beyond venomous. YGTBSM! She said "I am trying to help you here". I did not understand any of this. I paid for the item. She sold them to the guy WHILE I was standing there and no one would acknowledge I was there. Then she started yelling at me when she turned on the roaster and I said I am sorry- I cannot hear you. She then screamed at me that I had to leave. Again- dumbfounded. ZERO customer service. Actual hatred and venom. I spend over $400-500 a year here buying canning tomatoes alone. I reminded her that I paid for them and she threw a $50 bill at me. I will NEVER return. But the crown in this- I went down to Knapp's. Tomatoes were $23 for a 25 lb box. Hanagans is $40. Roasted chiles were $42, Hanagans $50 and guess what?? They were nice!! The produce was fresh and they were fantastic. Guess where I will go and tell everyone else to go? Knapps'. Avoid Hanagan's like the plague. Overpriced, poor produce and the nastiest owner I have EVER met! There is NEVER an excuse to treat a CUSTOMER like this. My son's girlfriend was with me and was shocked to witness this. She said she had never seen or heard anything like this. I was treated like a criminal yet all I did was buy an item and ask to pick it up later. Was it rude to ask if they discounted it? NO, what was rude was to sell my item that I paid for and then call me names! NEVER VISIT THIS AWFUL PLACE!!!! Too many better choices within a mile or so.
