Perhaps at another time of day, one could read or study in relative quiet. There are two individual washrooms out front before entering the library. There's also a table with books and magazines for sale. Magazines are $0.50, paperbacks are $1, and hardcovers are $2. On the lower level, there was a vaccination clinic happening on that particular day.

It's very loud and people occupy the washrooms for so long that the staff is constantly knocking on the washroom doors to get the homeless out. It's more of a homeless retreat than a library. Try to go in there and concentrate. The library staff are nice, but pretty loud as well, which is quite funny imho. Not the best environment for children and the smell in there can get really bad. I've had to leave on afew occasions because of the B.O smell in there. Seems like no one who should care about all of this, does. It is Parkdale so I guess I should expect it.

Whitby Public Library has all the bell and the whistles and anything that I want in my dream library... I think I can even organize my "dream" wedding here! The only problem is the limited number of parking spots. Only around 15 or so for a large library this size (it has more computer terminals than parking lots!!) Of course there are some reasonable municipal parking lots right next to the library at 50 cents a hour and free on evenings, weekends and holidays.

I came across this library when I was in Oshawa. My class had gotten cancelled and the library at…read moreour school wasn't quiet enough for me. So I opened up yelp and came across this one not to far from school. The building looks very pretty. And the inside is nice and quiet. Very organized and clean. There are two levels one has a few computers in the far corners and the second level has some tables and couches to do some work. Asides from having books on both floors. It also has a cafe in the building, which was neat. I haven't seen a library with a cafe before. I had chosen the couch spot to do some work and sit by the fireplace since it was cold outside. It was quiet and I was able to finish a lot of work while I was there. I would definitely recommend this library to groups as well, since they have rooms you can book to do group assignments. The only thing I would say sucks is the parking, I wasn't able to find parking near the library so I had to park at a P lot, which wasn't too expensive. $1 for 1 hour.

Because it's a bit of an older building there's nothing particularly flash about this particular branch, but I think it's got quite a character of its own, especially with the odd round reading room on the south side of the building. Services are decent (they have a small bank of computers), there's a reasonable selection of stuff on shelves and they are a reasonable location to grab holds from. There's a bit of bottlenecking near the stairs/entrance if there's a bit of a lineup, but most of the rest of the building you won't find hard to get around. Unlike the Ref. Library - and despite the building's awesomeness - I generally don't aim to spend time here; just get my books and scoot. A short walk from bus/streetcar stops and St Clair West station makes this ideally situated. If it were open 7 days a week, I think I could squeeze in an extra star. [They do get bonus points for appearing in the Scott Pilgrim comics *and* movie though.]

So from first looks it was an appealing branch, one of older one in area that had a few renovation but it still looks like it once did decent size library despite it is 3 floor, it not that big overall the main floor is small, where the cirlication and kid section is, the second floor is adult area which had like 4 table to work at maybe half a dozen computer, seem like smaller then other two. The third floor is a mini floor with few tables and booth I will say my review would be better but it seem like this a noisy because of open concept, there seem to be a few crazy and drunk people, there seem to be machine that make noise one in a while, so isnt serene enviroment to study at but it not the worse I've been.

There are a couple of levels inside; a small waiting area when you first get in, the main area with computers, books, and the service desks, a lower level with fiction books, and an even lower level with some more books and some studying desks. There are a few chairs scattered throughout, so you can settle down and read. It's not the largest library, so selection may be an issue, but for it's size it's a nice little place.

Given its size, it is VERY well run, and provides just about all the services you'll need on any given day at the library. The recommended offerings on display are very well organized and rotated regularly. I love that I can just about always find something interesting to take with me in addition to - or instead of - anything else I came by for. There are several areas to use, depending on your needs - from a quiet chair in a corner, to a desktop workstation, to a study room, to the large activity rooms used for programming. Speaking of programming, there are all kinds of movie nights, special help sessions e.g. retirement planning, how to upgrade your literacy and digital literacy skills, etc. My favourite is the book chat held on the last Wednesday of every month. These books are reserved for monthly discussion and you get your loan for the period to coincide with the chat. You don't have to sign up and it's always a treat to participate in the well facilitated discussions - as much or as little a you like, no pressure here. One of my other favourite services is how easy it is to borrow items you want with the reserve/pickup system. I can request my items and when I'm ready (and they're ready for you), all you have to do is breeze in, collect them from the shelf with your number on them, and use the automatic checkout. So fast and convenient! Kudos to the staff here - knowledgeable, courteous, and professional. Best resource in the neighbourhood.

They have build up their kid's section since at beggining it was a small collection on second floor but now it's pretty decent. The organization of this library always did confuse me, half the non fiction was on main floor and other one section and even on second floor the layout confuses you. It goes around the edge to middle? Poor planning if you ask me. The main floor is composed of a few things, their main desk, circulation and reference. an open computer area, half the non fiction and fiction section as well a teen area. The teens seem to be a bit of an nuisance here but it seem like staff know but dont do much. They also have single use washroom, both mens and womens and vending machine. They are much better enforcing the quiet rule up there so it a good spot to study. The have washroom up here too, a galley like area where they may feature art and a meeting room for programs but it can double as study room when not in use. All in all, it's one of my favourite branches, the staff are pretty helpful thou I do find the security guard sometime rude but I heard he's been there for a while so I guess I just have put up with him. Atleast he does his job but he's too serious and rude at times.
