Wandering and walking in a new city is the best way to explore. Love chancing upon local treasures…read more After a long day of train travel, I needed to walk. So....mapped a route headed to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and then wandered along the way. After saying a prayer in Chiesa di San Gregoria Magno (of course, I had to go inside), our family walked through what initially looked like a preschool. Instead, we had found this gorgeous park. Established in 1784, it is the oldest city park in Milan. Today it covers 43 acres and includes museums, gardens, statues and monuments like the Planetarium and the Natural History Museum. The park was renamed in 2002 for Indro Montanelli. He was a popular journalist who relaxed in the park on his daily travel to work. He was shots by a terrorist brigade in 1977. His statue is placed where this event occurred. Take time to explore Milan. You may venture and find a local gem, like this public park, along the way.

Dense with trees, paths, benches and a few spots where dogs are permitted to be off leash. Inside the park are the Planetarium, the Natural History Museum and more. The park includes a large number of monuments and memorials. The Modern Art Gallery is adjacent. I was here for a good hour before and after my visit to the Art Gallery. It's a comfy spot to people watch. [Review 10719 overall, 487 of 2019.]

The main level has a series of tanks containing different species and are great for very young children as the tanks sit on floor level. Outside, in the back, are a number of pools containing a variety of aquatic life including several turtles. There is a children's arts room on the upper level and a conference room where they were offering a slide show presentation in Italian. On the lower level was an art exhibit, based on sea life. Of course. It's a great day out with the kids and/or a good rainy day activity.

If you come during the day for a quick supermarket run downstairs just the breeze and the buildings make you feel so happy. If you come read a book at the Feltrinelli or grab a quick aperitivo in their outside seating area, you will have the best view with the plaza. I just love grabbing a gelato at Venchi Gelateria and sitting down whenever I can with the sound of the water and breeze. The perfect afternoon for a thoughtless day. This plaza is great, in a hot summery day, tourists always love to jump in the little fountain/water area and it's the perfect spot to cool off yourself or your four paw friend. Great piazza! You will love it!
Per gli adulti una mezza tortura, ma i bambini impazziscono per questo posto e di sicuro si sfogano.

Of course the highlight is the beautiful cathedral. The Galleria and many museums surround the piazza. However, it's just nice to breathe the fresh air and enjoy life. So many people in the square. You'll think that you're in the middle of a sea of paparazzi with all of the photographers on their cell phones taking pictures. Be aware of big pockets and the people going around with popcorn that they will bring for you to hold out your hand to entice the pigeons. Is popcorn even good for pigeons?

This square pertains to the San Siro neighborhood and comprises the city's huge soccer stadium…read more This hood saw the light in the early 20's in the western part of Milano. There's an ugly Catholic church built in the 1930, fascist-style and thus even more ugly. The inside is not so awful (see photo), I have been there whenever one of my neighbors dies:(( In the past 2 years it has happened already thrice. A nice park with beautiful trees is unreasonably placed in the middle of the square but you gotta watch out for trolleys racing right though it (in Italy even trolley buses go fast). The stop lights are several, surrounding the square. They don't make much sense: the engineers were probably drunk or high on pot when they designed it. the lights turn red or green all at the sale time, causing traffic jams and accidents. Sirens can be heard at all times of day & night. That's why I call it "the square of death". I live in a quiet street nearby (never disclose your address anywhere anyhow to any whom: the world is full of stalkers, weirdos, thieves and terrorists to be so foolish). It's good either for public transportation but I would never ride a bike here, I'd certainly be run over and -finally- get as flat as a pancake
