It's the main square in Milan, and is centered around Milan Cathedral. The square is a very popular meeting place and is considered one of the largest in Italy. My experience is that you'll inevitably encounter a lot of crowds here throughout the day, and the earlier the better.

This place to me is magical, the Duomo cathedral is simply magnificent. Being a Milano native, I'm a bit biased, I know, but everytime I walk by Piazza Duomo I feel happy and energized. I love this place.

The huge central square of Milano, Piazza del Duomo does have the Duomo metro station below it but above ground, be prepared to be blown away by the grandeur. Dominated by the magnificent Milan Cathedral (the Duomo) which is the third largest cathedral in Europe, it also includes the Royal Palace and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. The piazza is plagued by pigeons despite the fact that feeding them is illegal. One of the street performers actually gets these sky rats to land on his arms. It's intriguing but disgusting. Lots of vendors selling cheap crap. Just say "No" and keep moving. And while you're there, watch your stuff. Milan does not have a violent crime problem but they do have a pickpocket issue. Dreamy plaza in the heart of Milano. Fashion, city, heart beats, life. This is everything Piazza Duomo brings to me whenever I come here. So much history in one spot yet so modern at the same time. This is the heart of Milano, where concerts, fashion shows, tourists, people, locals, kids, dogs, everyone gathers here at all times. Metro stop is right at the Piazza, conveniently located and easy access. Skip the car, make sure to take the subway, bike, bus, trolly or anything else but your car. It'll be super hard to park. Milano, piena di fascino. Attraente, seducente. Milano, sei stupenda!

The big landmark in Milano is surely the Duomo. That one itself is already massive. And the Piazza to the front is massive as well. It is huge. Most of it is actually pretty empty, except for some special occasions and festivities. But that is actually a good thing. To really enjoy and appreciate the view of the Duomo you will need some distance to it. And there's plenty of room for that on this piazza. Even though quite packed with tourists, you will be able to get some good pics, if you are patient enough. There are a good number of restaurants surrounding the piazza. But - on a nice day - good luck on finding a spot. There are better for a drink than a meal. Better food you get elsewhere. But it's nice for a cocktail and watch the world go by.

Piazza del Duomo is the main public square, located in the city center of Milan, Italy. This square dates back to the 14th century and is surrounded by some of the most historically significant buildings in Milan. Buildings that surround the piazza include the Duomo di Milano (Milan Cathedral), Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II (one of the oldest shopping malls in the world), Palazzo della Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo (The piazza's "hidden secret". Apartments and shops surround a hidden church on the inside.), and Palazzo Reale a.k.a. Royal Palace (Milan's former Town Hall). If you are looking for a delicious snack nearby the Piazza del Duomo, check out Luini for panzerotti or Cioccolati Italiani for some of the most amazing gelato. This piazza is a great spot for people watching and taking photos, but watch for scam artists and pickpockets. At least a dozen people approached us in attempts to sell us a selfie-stick. Just smile and shake your head and they will quickly move on to the next tourist.

Beautiful!!! I was here during the summer and it was a busy and bustling plaza! Be aware of your surroundings as there are many beggars as well who will try to sell you something. There are also many pigeons! since some of the beggars use them to pose tourists with the pigeons for a cost. The line to go into the Duomo can be very lengthy and time consuming so if you want to avoid the long lines arrive early!

This could be one of the most scenic Piazza's on the planet. If you don't believe me, then come visit and see for yourself. During the World Cup, the entire city stands still and comes here at night to watch Italy compete. The rest of the year, the finest architecture in Europe, unchanged in numerous centuries, just teases with it's unbelievable beauty. One quick note though... If someone in the square hands you a bit of string or whatever, do NOT take it. Move on. Fight to the death if necessary. It's a scam. Plain and simple.

Whether you have hours or years in Milano, you cannot miss the city's historic and literal center. Welcome to Piazza del Duomo! Like most Italian cities, Milan's cathedral has its own front square that is also the city's main square. However, unlike other "Piazze del Duomo" throughout the country, Milan's is modern and fashionable - true to the spirit of Italy's fashion capital! But aside from being stunningly fashionable, Piazza del Duomo is of course the most remarkable thanks to the grand facade of the magnificent cathedral. The cathedral's unbelievably ornate and beautiful facade is certainly what makes this Piazza del Duomo to be comparably majestic to the Vatican! Sadly like all Italian tourist sites, this Piazza del Duomo is infested with peddlers - in fact, because this is Milan's top tourist destination by far, the peddlers are more in number than anywhere in the city and much more aggressive that even a "no grazie...BASTA, VA VIA" is not enough to send them away. However, come at nighttime, and almost all peddlers are perhaps asleep and the square is much more magical thanks to the lighting. Anyway, I hope I don't scare you with the prospect of having to fight off hordes of peddlers, because that's definitely not that the case. However, even if it is, Piazza del Duomo is certainly a sight that you cannot miss! This piazza is easy to reach, because almost all Milan's trams converge here and two metro lines intersect underground. In fact, if you chose the right exit from the Duomo metro stop, then you are in for an unforgettable sight as the spires of the Duomo emerge in your sight as you rise to the surface! --- tl;dr version: 1) The must-see epicenter of Milan 2) Modern, fashionable, majestic 3) Nighttime is the best for minimal peddling and magical light

#148-2016: Review number 700, and once again I picked a iconic place to write about. Piazza Duomo is (along with the Last Supper and the Sforza Castle) one of the most visited places in Milano. Not only does it host the famous cathedral (3rd biggest Gothic cathedral in the world), but it also holds the statue of king Vittorio Emanuele II on a horse, facing the cathedral. It was originally envisioned in the 14th century and has been since under constant evolution. (Should you want to know more, here is a useful link to take a look at https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piazza_del_Duomo,_Milan) From the square is worth noting that many are the places worth walking towards: facing the cathedral and going clockwise: to the right of the Duomo is Palazzo Reale (which hosts some amazing art exhibits and is worth visiting even if only to the gaze in the beauty of the building (and maybe even drink drink a coffee in the bar within). There also is a street that leads towards piazza Fontana. Next to the Palazzo Reale one can visit the Museo del Novecento (museum of the '900, which hosts contemporary art from last century). Via Guglielmo Marconi, then, brings you to piazza Armando Diaz. Continuing the view of the square, there are some architectural amazing arcades (which host multiple stores) that lead towards via Mazzini and Via Torino. This last street is known by the locals as THE shopping street, hosting among others: Victoria's Secret (HUGE disappointment), Pimkie, Acessorize, Trony, Mango, Tanaga, Calzedonia... Past via Torino, here comes via Orefici which, along with via Mercanti, leads towards piazza Cordusio. Whilst via Orefici is opened to traffic, Via Mercanti is pedestrian. And much more nice to walk and admire. Another set of arcades leads towards the entrance of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II (which leads towards piazza della Scala), the forefather of modern day malls, which hosts some of the fanciest (and most expensive) cafes/restaurants as well as exclusive brands such as Prada. Finally there is another pedestrian street known to locals as well as tourists as the second main shopping street (corso Vittorio Emanuele), which leads towards San Babila Square (as well as via Montenapoleone). The square itself is a thing of beauty, both architecturally as well as visually. It oftentimes hosts free concerts (such as NYE). It has recently been deemed as potential target which means that security is very strict and present in great forces, which may mean a false sense of security as well as assessing that we no longer live in a world free of worries. Worth mentioning that one can reach this square by metro (both MM1 and MM3) as well as by multiple buses/tramways.

Holy! Big church! The architecture on this is crazyy and detailing to perfection. Church is huge inside with giant pillars. Its a cool place to check out if your passing by. There's security at the entrance and ladies they have a sign out that doesn't allow short skirts to enter! My girlfriend did not make the cut. She had to wait outside as I went in. We saw a couple having their wedding photos here seems it would great shots! There's thousands of people in the plaza and souvenir shops also those persistent corn kernel selling people that wants you to feed the pigeons for a price! Don't do ittttt unless you want to waste money.

This is a the place to visit in Milan... The square has the Main Church and Vittorio Emmanuel II shopping arcade- notably the first shopping mall in the world. The square is quite busy with tourists taking pictures, locals must relaxing, beggars begging, Kids playings with pigeons and people just passing by. So its notably a busy and attractive place to check out.

Wow, just wow - even better in real life

So....mapped a route headed to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and then wandered along the way. After saying a prayer in Chiesa di San Gregoria Magno (of course, I had to go inside), our family walked through what initially looked like a preschool. Instead, we had found this gorgeous park. Established in 1784, it is the oldest city park in Milan. Today it covers 43 acres and includes museums, gardens, statues and monuments like the Planetarium and the Natural History Museum. The park was renamed in 2002 for Indro Montanelli. He was a popular journalist who relaxed in the park on his daily travel to work. He was shots by a terrorist brigade in 1977. His statue is placed where this event occurred. Take time to explore Milan. You may venture and find a local gem, like this public park, along the way.
