I have recently (6 months ago) started taking piano lessons with Maura. I am a 66 year old man and have always wanted to learn to play the piano and read music. In all the things I hoped my music teacher would be, Maura has turned out to be all of them and more. She is passionate about the music, learning to play, and the possibilities of what you can accomplish. Because she has more than 25 years experience working with older students like me, you believe you can learn your assignments week-to-week because you know other students like yourself have done it. She is the most wonderful combination of teacher, cheer leader, and coach, I've ever met. She also deeply believes in having her students understand the theory that drives the whole musical experience. Even on simple little pieces she wants you to bring the musical nuances of power and subtlety that make you feel you're a budding Beethoven sitting in her studio. OK here's the kicker: At the end of your first year of music lessons, you take everything you've learned about music, theory, and nuance, and you write your own short piece of music!! That's right; you write your own piece of music. Can you actually do this, Yes you can!! And how do know you actually can, because Maura says you can, and you definitely believe her. If this is what you've been looking for, run, don't walk to her studio. You won't be disappointed, and I'm not a guy that makes these things up. read more
