In March 2020, I had a procedure requiring anesthesia. The anesthesiologist was Dr. Edwin Adolfo. A few days before the procedure, the anesthesiologist's billing vendor (PBS Anesthesia) called, asking for me to pay for my financial responsibility right there over the phone. I obliged and paid with a credit card. I initially realized how unprofessional and less than mediocre they were when I received, by email, the credit card receipt: it didn't spell out what I paid for, it didn't give any indication of what the receipt was for, and importantly, my first and last name were butchered. PBS has my records and the representative who processed the credit card payment could have easily looked up my name to confirm the spelling. She didn't. After I received my explanation of benefits from my insurance company, it confirmed that I, in fact, should have not been billed any amount by PBS. So I called PBS to ask for my refund. I called weekly (I know these types of places are in no hurry to refund any money) since I received the EOB in early May. Each time I called, the representatives -- Megan and Paris on different occasions -- repeated the same, re-used line, "It takes a couple weeks to clean up the billing. The doctor needs to approve." I am tired of those same excuses. So two months after my procedure, I demanded they refund my money. I don't think they will, and they definitely won't in a timely manner. The frustrating part is that I happily obliged to pay what I thought was my financial responsibility when they asked for it a few days before my procedure. But yet, I haven't received the same courtesy -- what's rightfully owed. Let me be clear, Dr. Adolfo performed my procedure competently. It's PBS, the doctor's billing vendor, that made this experience terrible. Terrible customer service and questionable business practices. So I urge other physicians to heed this review before considering PBS -- your patients may ultimately have a bad experience, which won't reflect well on you, despite your competent medical care. A Google Reviews search of PBS shows other disgruntled patients. It's unfortunate I have to continue the line of fed-up, disgruntled patients. read more
