A week later I went back and he handed me my boots... with the wrong sole, not what I ordered. They were of a similar type so I didn't complain but on one of them the sole was glued on kind of crooked. So, pretty mediocre over all but at least I can wear them. On the second pair, a pair of Red Wings, Mike glued on the correct sole, perfectly centered, and they looked great. It wasn't until I put them on that I realized the boots had no shank and no midsole. No shank is no big deal. No midsole is completely unacceptable and rendered the boots twisty, floppy, unsupportive and useless. When I got home I sent them to an online YouTube cobbler to fix them and now they're perfect.

He showed me what he had available and I picked the one I wanted. He did a proper resole stripping the sole to the welt, adding new cork and a rubber midsole and gluing on the new wedge. The sole was nicely centered and looks great. Stitching isn't perfect but is close enough. The boots feel like sneakers now! Only gripe is that he didn't finish the edging after he sanded it and on a few occasions I've gone there during business hours and nobody was there. Definitely worth giving him a try.

He added grip under the heel so it wasn't as slippery, and repaired the heel and strap so it was like new. He is very "old school" and doesn't have a fancy receptionist or booking system, but somehow he remembers which shoes belong to you. It "looks" disorganized and chaotic, but that's Dom! He doesn't take Venmo, Apple Pay or credit card, and as Dom says, "cash is king." He gets the job done and gives you your shoes back in a used plastic bag. Gotta love him!

Unfortunately the interaction felt a bit abrupt. Several times I was told "that's vinyl, we can't do that" without much explanation or guidance. I understand that not everything can be repaired but the tone felt dismissive rather than helpful. My shoes were a bit dirty from regular wear, and when they left some dust on the counter there was a noticeable reaction that made me feel uncomfortable as a customer. I completely respect that certain materials can't be repaired, but a little more patience or willingness to guide customers who aren't experts in shoe materials would go a long way.
