Semi awkward external staircase to climb, then entry by way of a manual sliding door. That's a bad start. Counter service. Tip prompts when paying. Weird menu: They have 'traditional' and 'premium' broth for a higher price point. In other words, their 'traditional' is second class. I ordered a chicken peanut sate. Cost $20. It was delivered on a tray with out the usual garnishes side dish. The 'large' bowl was filled to about an inch from the rim. Perhaps they knew my table was sloped and they were building in an allowance. Unbelievable. Watery broth, Light on veg, light on flavour, zero creaminess. The chicken was machine cut in very thin slices. No free water was offered; nor did I see any sign of it being available. There was a self service cooler full of drinks to buy. It was my first ever purely bad pho experience. Been to perhaps 40-50 pho places in Canada and around the world, including the length of Vietnam; all of them significantly better than Pho Daddy. Had to come to CALGARY from Florida just to try some halal pho worth every penny. The broths are extremely flavorful and I can drink it just by itself. It's super quick and filling even for a regular bowl. There's also 2 ways to enter and leave which was a little confusing but you'll figure it out. normally when I go to Pho daddy the atmosphere is a joyful one, and the soup is amazing. but when I went today, the atmosphere gave a get what you want and get out. I love trying halal restaurants that aren't arab or pakistani because I eat those dishes easily at home. That being said I only eat Zabiha halal so I can't compare this place to the best pho someone else may have but I can say that it was such a great meal. The meat was yummy. I went with my partner and his sister. We eat got something slight different. We each loved ours. (I liked my regular beef the most.) We were told about this place by someone from Edmonton. All their meats are halal. Seriously wow. You make your own and I had chicken. It was super delicious. This was my first time having pho so I have nothing to compare it with but omg I loved it. And they make their own broth right there. So healthy. I was so impressed. And I liked the sitting area too. Been here three times. The first time was amazingly delicious, the second time it was barely edible, the third time was okay. Ordered the same dish all 3 times. All ingredients were fresh. The first time I asked for less noodles and they did exactly that. Sauces on the side. The second time, I asked for less noodles and the guy behind the counter added the sauce into EXTRA NOODLES. I told him that I wanted less noodles not more and he said that he can't change it because he "already added the sauce". I ate a few bites and left it there. The flavour was great the first time, terrible the second time, and okay the third time. That's the problem - I'm not confident that they can be consistently amazing and veer wildly into terrible. Another reviewer said it first, but I'll second it - this place is like Chipotle where you can pick and customize your toppings. They only have one type of beef (I saw some chicken but didn't try it) but the one that they have cooks perfectly in the hot broth. The service was friendly, broth hot and noodles well cooked. I will def be back for more. The spring rolls were just decent, so whether or not I get those again will be a game time decision. One of my favorite parts was the actually restaurant itself and how the entire front was open. Order at the counter, then they bring it to you. Or does it work that way? I have no idea. And what is the difference between regular and premium ph? Maybe have a sign that explains it. The concept seems nice. The restaurant is nice. The ph is not so nice. Chicken pho is really quite disgusting. The beef is slightly better. I LOVE pho! I've eaten it for years and I've had it made many different ways. For me, pho is like pizza in that when it's not very good, it's still pretty good. I've never had pho I didn't like and this place was just ok. Service was great, but the broth seemed like it's lacking flavor and the beef (while tender and of good quality) isn't very traditional. Great concept to be able to pick out how much and what to put into your bowl, but I've just had a lot better. read more

I don't know what to say about this place except that it's filthy and poorly managed. I tried to tip one of the workers there and he straight up told me that they don't accept tips even though there were a tips jar right next to the cash register, I asked him about the jar and he told that the tips goes to the owner, not the workers. C'mon Jimmy, you can do better than that. Instead of taking the tips that the workers make, give them those tips. read more

Nastiest pho I've had in my life. Spent forever waiting for our order and then when I asked to use the washroom I went on a grand tour of the building which lead me to a bathroom that looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in years, not to mention I got to see the kitchen in the back which anyone could tell it is not up to standard. Absolutely delicious! Everything is made from Scratch and it is really flavourful. Got my toes and eyebrows done at Aura spa (amazing as always) then popped on down for a delicious hot soup. They also have a Thai peanut bowl that is amazing as well!!! read more

This place has a Subway Sandwich method of serving Pho. You pay, then move down the line to choose your toppings behind a glass barrier. Selection is very limited to the choices of beef brisket, chicken, or vegetarian. There was not a lot of diversity of flavors. There are not combinations of beef available, only brisket. I write this review with sadness as Pho Daddy was one of my favourite pho places in the city. Recently, they have started raising their prices (which is fair, these things happen) but the service and food quality has gone down. And that is where the problem begins. So now, my husband and I eat here at least once a week and we will be taking our business elsewhere. When we walk in, there is rarely even an employee available to help us. We usually stand alone for a few minutes. When someone does arrive to help (I don't know where they go), it is usually the same girl that helps us. We always deal with this same woman and she is extremely rude, never listens to our order, and does everything so quickly that it lowers the quality of your food and experience. I've been a few times, and have always had the noodle bowls which I think are excellent. Yesterday I decided to branch out and try the Pho. I got the traditional, and it was amazing. Normally I find Pho broth at other restaurants bland, but this was full of flavour, I was blown away. I look forward to trying the Premium next time. read more

Great space up a half-spiral staircase above 4th Street- very unique for Calgary or really anywhere. It's their soft opening and I got everything on the menu, which for now is to say spicy pho tai (rare beef, you don't have to get it spicy but I recommend it- FYI this isn't pho sate with ground peanuts but rather standard pho tai with some chili condiment added to the broth) and two veggie fried spring rolls. The spring rolls were fair but a sort of oddly fluffy wrapper- I prefer the crispier type. Also they were served with that sweet chili sauce you see all over the place, not a fish sauce based dipping sauce that I think is better for this item. On the plus side the rols weren't burning hot and, again, were not bad tasting, just not outstanding. The pho on the other hand was excellent! I love this concept- a sort of Chipotle style approach to pho where the soup is assembled in front of you and you add or omit what you want to. The flavour was very good, in fact I drank the entire large portion's broth, and the noodles in particular were just perfect, as good as the best in town. $12 for a large is a massive portion. Hours are 11-8 M-Sat and 11-7 Sundays if I recall our conversation completely. read more

I love this restaurant and have become a regular. The fresh made broth is amazing and what keeps bringing me back, but what brought me in originally is what makes me a regular. I had heard of Pho Daddy from friends, but didn't decide to check it out until I was waiting in line at the bank and Jimmy, the owner, came into this random bank and started talking up his shop, Pho Daddy, quite loud... They have no website, no contact information, and no operating hours. The broth is delicious - the owner says it's artisanal and may not be the same every time. It may not have the same flavour as I've had at other Pho restaurants but still delicious. What I love most is the customization of the Pho. They start you off with a custom line of building your pho, noodles cooked as soon as you order, with a choice of green onion, white onion, bean sprouts, chili oil, cilantro, a chili pepper (or more), basil, fresh lime, then your meat and topped with hoisin, hot sauce....super tasty! read more
