Bernie Robbins Jewelers has been a fixture for diamonds, engagement rings, watches and high end…read morebaubles for sixty years in the Philadelphia area, but only arrived in Newtown in the past decade. It is located in the Promenade on North Sycamore Street. Parking and entrance are in the rear of the building. The retail area is well appointed and the sales staff are friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful in responding to inquiries and requests for repairs. I was there to have an Omega wristwatch metal band adjusted to sit more centered when worn and to replace the battery. To my great surprise, the representative at the front desk immediately took the watch over to the workbench and did the adjustments needed. It was interesting to see him work with those tiny specialized tools to remove and replace the pins with miniature screw driver and rubber mallet. He encountered some difficulty replacing the rear watch case after inserting the new battery, something he anticipated might be a problem because of the way Omega designs its pieces, and advised that it would have to be sent to their master watch person to get it done right. I appreciated that he tried his best to complete the replacement, understood there could be a problem, encountered it, and did not try to do too much and end up worsening the situation. This old watch has been in the family for a while and we want it well cared for; which it was. The story isn't fully writ, and won't be complete until this little beauty is back from the master watchman, but to this moment we have been impressed with the customer care received, and the fact that Bernie Robbins was not going to charge for the adjustment, but only for the new battery. To us, that small bit of largesse on top of their wonderful attitude, was enough to cement us as customers going forward. So glad that they choose Newtown as a desirable place to expand their business. Bernie Robbins is exactly the kind of enterprise we envisioned for the community.

Arrogant owner, refuses to look over each and every coin, refused to give "bid" price, actually…read moretold us some coins were worthless (yet I sold such coins to another shop. The rudeness was appalling to say the least. Told us he didn't have to buy anything from us. Tried telling us he had to weight, ship and other costs he had to deal with. Showed a sterling silver charm bracelet, with sterling silver charms. Said it wasn't worth testing. He didn't need to test this, everything was marked sterling silver. Acted like he was doing us a huge favor lol. Not professional whatsoever. I would advise to not go to this precious metals shop. If you really want to sell at a favorable price, go elsewhere. Especially when you are there with almost $4,000 in silver coins.

Not a good experience at all !! I had called a week or so before going to the Exchange and asked…read morewhat he was paying for 14K gold. After hemming and hawing for a bit he said "$55.00 a pennyweight". When I went there I should him what I had and he, of course, checked the items out. He sorted out the various grades of gold and started to weigh and price them out. I had weighed the items before going and knew there were 28 DWT of 14k gold. 28 X $55 = $1540. He had written down less than $1100. I asked if that was what he going to give me and he said, "yes". That was less than $40 a DWT. While I was putting my items back in a container he said $50 was the best he could do. Less than he stated on the phone but an offer I most likely would have accepted. Why not just make an honest offer to start with?
