As for the bar side...it's dirty and dicey. Drinks aren't too bad for cost. But as a bowling alley it is the greatest! The bowling alley is super retro. It's like you're stepping back into the 1960s. You have to keep track of your own scores and you actually do your scoring on an overhead. There aren't too many lanes, which makes it great for a few of you since it won't accommodate a large crowd. Magnificent place! This is an old-school slopper which features some of the greasiest food I've ever had, a rowdy bar that plays ZZ Top, a bunch of gambling machines, a bowling alley and a video shop. If you happen to be in Boulder, this is THE PLACE to go. I dined on an extraordinary dish known as the "chili cheese burger". It was served without a bun, I assumer because it was so greasy the bun would simply have dissolved. My associate reviewer had a plate of super-grease fries with frozen "fish" fillets, also magnificent. The "Local" beer here is Budweiser, and they mean it. read more

The cafe is now under new management and the food is better than ever. Our family went there for bowling and lunch and what a treat. The bowling is cool--reminds me of places my grandfather took me in 1965, but this time the food was remarkable (for bar food). If you bring kids, you have to setup the carpet rolls in the gutter yourself, and watch out for lane 6 (it's kind of balky, but in a good way...has been for the past 10 years). The fries are hand cut, and cooked to perfection. They invented a grilled vegetarian sandwich on the spot that had my sister- and mother in law singing it's praises (they said they'd call it, "The Karen" -- mushrooms, perfectly carmelized onions, green peppers, special sauce on a beautiful hoagie bun); the fish and chips were done perfectly, and I had a Snakebite (1/2 lb burger with a homemade puree of habaneros and vinegar mixed in) and it was just on the edge of being too hot. I kept waiting for the next bite to be over the edge, but it held it's appeal all the way through. Apparently Rick has a stash not only of pretty good habaneros, but he can add jalokia (ghost peppers) and a secret ingredient to scratch the most urgent heat itch.
