This was another location that was on the Daytripper videos that we decided to check out. This is a local blacksmith who makes knives and even a few swords. They moved to the building next to the blacksmith and are still getting things laid out. The top has a display of several knives, and the bottom has a spot where you can help craft your own knife out of a horseshoe. They do the grinding, but you can hit the metal to shape it. I was told it takes about 25 minutes for the entire thing. We spoke to the owner, who was very nice and chatted with us. We ended up buying a few smaller items, but we will come back. Parking is out to the side of the building.

Bought our 10 year old grandson a gift certificate for "Come and Make It" What an awesome experience! Very interactive and FUN! They do such a great job at teaching and sharing the history of blacksmithing in a really fun way. You don't even realize you're learning about how elements and materials can be manipulated into the tools and items we use everyday. Our smithy was so funny and so friendly. He was one on one with our grandson beating the red hot horse shoe into shape creating a completely new object. Explained step by step how the force used changed the metal and formed the blade, tip and edge. How the different sanding belts changed the shape of the blade and the effect each had on the metal. Completely in awe of this place and the level of attention and detail they put into everything. Made one 10 year old little boy over the moon excited and inspired. Convinced he can do anything now. After all he melted metal with fire and made a knife! Highly recommend this as a gift for anyone. In our grandsons words "one of the top three best days of my life!"

I had the pleasure of taking a 4 day knife making class at Phenix Knives taught by Cowboy. The class was excellent! Cowboy taught me A-Z about forging, hammering, grinding, sanding, heat treating, creating a proper bevel, building the handle, creating a beautiful sheath, etc. Cowboy was patient with me as a beginner, and was terrific helping/guiding me to build a beautiful razor sharp blade. I am so please with the class, the knowledge transferred, and the quality of the blade I left with. Thank you Cowboy. Dean

This was one of the coolest experiences I've had! On the way to Bellville to eat and my wife saw an advertisement about making a horseshoe knife. After lunch we drove downtown and found the shop. There's only 2 spots for parking at the shop, but just a few steps more gets you parking in a parking lot or you could park in the street around the corner. This is a real blacksmith shop, built in 1891. When you walk into the shop (watch your step, it's an uneven entrance and floor) you're brought back to the 19th century and earlier, to a time things were made by hand, like knives! Cowboy is the owner of the shop and is an absolute delight to work with!! His wife runs the counter and is also a delight to talk to. The knives we made were a piece from a horseshoe. You choose the size and the shape. For a large horseshoe knife, it was $50. My son got the small one for $30. Cowboy or one of his apprentices walks you through the steps. First you get on the waiting list. There were 5 in front of us, we we put our names on the list and went down the street to get a drink. We came back and Cowboy was ready a little before 3:15. We put on our aprons and safety glasses and headed to the anvil. He explained the way we were going to strike the hot iron, after he heated up to temperatures well over 2000 degrees. It was so fun to hit that hot metal. He gave detailed instructions on how you are to strike it each time while he held it in the correct spot. After you hit it in several different ways to shape it, you cool it off and you have a crude metal piece that resembles a shape of a knife. Then he takes it and sharpens it, oils it, and puts it in a carrying pouch you can hang around your neck. For the price, it was so much fun!! He also does classes that range from one to 4 days where you can build a "real" knife. He has several on display and some for sale. This was an amazing experience and I would definitely go back!

We finally had a chance to visit Phenix Knives and make our own horseshoe knife! We had a great time learning and taking part of the process! Such a cool experience! Great place for great memories! No reservations needed! It's $30 to make a small horseshoe knife, and $50 for a large one.

We had the BEST time here! This was an unplanned stop while we were in town and ended up being the highlight of our trip! We each made our own knife. We got to choose from the style, size, and blade type we wanted. Making something as unique as this was such an incredible experience and learning the process was fascinating. The prices are super reasonable. There's no reason not to do it! Can't recommend this experience enough!

Found this company on yelp and thrilled to find out that it belongs to the son of a family who's family owns and operates a fantastic little restraint called Seasons Harvest in Cypress! If you haven't been there, you are missing out on a lovely little peaceful eatery that feels like you are our in the country slowing down and enjoying life. Anyways, I was able to drop off the knives, eat a fantastic GLUTEN FREE lunch and go about my way. Was called the next day to let me know they were done, and I could come pick up at my leisure. Came back a few days later, stopped to eat breakfast and my knives were wrapped and waiting for me. Got home, unwrapped, cleaned and tried them out. They were perfect! Can't believe I waited so long to get these done. I also have a pizza cutter sharpened, who knew you could have this done? Yeah I know those aren't really expensive, but it's still cheaper to have them sharpened than to buy new. And I'm being a good steward but taking care of what I have and not adding to more junk. So official review? 5/5 Adding this company to my go-to for knife sharpening. Took good care of my expensive knives, finished in a timely matter, great communication, and GREAT VALUE! Easy peasy transaction, and I love supporting local, especially young aspiring entrepreneurs. Thanks again!
