SInce 4th grade, I have used tutors to help him succeed, and also to assist him in learning the skills he faced on the state reading and writing assessment. Although he was successful in math, science, and social studies, he could not pass the Florida state reading assessment for three years running and was entering grade 8. I contacted Sylvan Learning Center of Ft. Myers and he bagan a program with them as the school year began. As a result of the program, my grandson began to read and comprehend much better, and progressed quite well through their program. I noted that he began to desire to do better and understand the passages and well as the questions. His grades in reading went up, as well as his classroom reading assessments. He also became motivated to succeed. When he took the state test this past May, 2018, he passed it. In addition, we saw all of his jump up higher, and he made the AB honor roll for the year in 8th grade. Thank you Sylvan!

After paying $895 for Sylvan Learning of Fort Myers' SAT Boot Camp over the summer, I expected my…read moredaughter's SAT scores to increase substantially, if not somewhat increase.... My daughter didn't miss any classes, payed attention, and did all the assigned work, and her results did not reflect her hard work. Her reading score increased by only 30 points, and her math score DECREASED by 40 points.... thus, a net "increase" of NEGATIVE 10 points from her previous SAT. That's right.... her OVERALL score actually DECREASED. If you are looking for an SAT prep course for your student - I highly recommend that you DO NOT use Sylvan, and look for a program elsewhere. My daughter and I were extremely disappointed. I since paid for a private one-on-one tutor, and she was able to increase her score enough to be accepted to her college of choice.

My daughter just completed the CNA class at the Fort Myers location…read more It was a terrible experience from the get go. She is a college junior with an intended nursing degree, so she thought getting her Nurse Aide certification while she was in Florida for the summer working an internship would be a beneficial way to spend her summer. I wish we had never paid for this class. For the amount of money charged, she should have gotten consistent education. Instead, she was taught different methods to complete the clinical tasks depending on whom was teaching the class. When the owner taught, she was taught the correct way. But he was only there for 1 or 2 days out of the week. The rest of the time, they were taught by someone who didn't teach them the correct way. Therefore, the next class at which the owner was present, they would be taught all over again using a different method. This was very confusing for the students. The day before the test to pass the class, they were learning NEW skills. Additionally, for the cost of the class and considering the job for which they are preparing, there SHOULD have been hands on clinical practice with real people. At orientation they were told they would be doing clinicals at a nursing home. Instead, they were given the option to stay and work only on a mannequin since that is what they will use to pass the test. Of course, that is what the class chose, so they never touched a real live person and only did clinicals on an 80 pound mannequin. I don't think they should have been given the option to not practice on humans.Instead, they never touched a real live person and only did clinicals on an 80 pound mannequin. Not very preparatory for the real world. Out of the 8 people in the class, my daughter was the only one to actually pass the clinical portion in order to pass the class. Passing the class is required in order to schedule the state exam. My daughter is only in Florida for the summer and was assured that she would be able to test with the state before she left in Mid August because she passed the test for the class the first time. Instead, here we are two weeks later and she only just received her invitation to be fingerprinted today (after showing up at the facility and demanding that someone DO something!). The fingerprint invitation should have been sent the day or day after she passed her class. She is supposed to be flying back to PA on Friday. We will have to fly her BACK to Florida to take the certification exam with the state, but by that time it will have been 6 weeks since she finished the class and her skills will be rusty to say the least. My mother taught nurse aides for decades and certified them here in PA. Perhaps things are done differently in Florida, but the education and experience was far inferior to the education received in PA. Perhaps that is also why the state of PA will not accept her training there to take the certification exam here. We are out $850+ for a worthless class that taught her little and ended with no state certification because of a lack of consistent education and care by those that run the program. Also if only 1/8 people pass the class the first time, something is wrong. We are lucky my daughter passed, I guess. Disappointed is an understatement. Buyer beware.
