We walked from here to the half way point to Tegernsee and, as we had already done the other half before, we know what the whole walk is like. A spectacular walk with wonderful places to stop along the way for a meal or a drink, up in the mountains. The whole walk takes about 4-6 hours depending on your fitness levels and you climb about 600-800m during the walk. Expect about 2 hours of uphill at a minimum, some easy grade and some pretty steep. The town of Schliersee has some interesting architecture and loads of cafes and restaurants. The scenery is beautiful and on a sunny day you can spend a day on the lake boating or, just hanging out at one of the many waterfront places. This was my first time here and I will definitely come back again. Less touristy than Tegernsee and quite a lot of walks in the area.

Cold, clear waters. Shops and restaurants. Hiking, boating, etc. Excellent for activities, for nature, and for people-watching. There is something special and fun about holiday/tourist towns that mostly have domestic tourists. If Tegernsee had a U.S. counterpart, it would be Lake Tahoe: Sure, folks come from all over the country and world to Lake Tahoe, but the majority come from all over California and Nevada. This is a town where people have second homes and spend the whole summer there -- that sort of thing. As an international visitor, I loved seeing Germans from all over the country on vacation and hanging out.

It was my first time here and I loved it. It takes about an hour to walk around the lake "rundweg" and there are loads of trails that come off the lake area going up into the mountains. The lake is located about 1100m about sea level so it's a little cooler up there. Best to go prepared. There are ski lifts you can take from the lakefront to a couple of the peaks and walk around or just walk up the mountain. There are a few places up the hills to stop and get lunch etc. Will definitely be back here again. We have explored much of the area nearby and this is just another addition to our repertoire.
