I thought I had walked into an Alfred Dunhill store back when they still sold pipes and tobacco. This place has been around for a long time - since the mid-1800's. Gorgeous wood paneling and selection of pipes, tobacco, cigars and spirits that will make you feel like a kid in a candy store. As I purchased pipes the customer service rep placed them on a felt mat so I could compare them. I felt like I was being treated like royalty or a powerful member of Parliament. It's not just the purchase that gives you pleasure here - it's the whole shopping experience. Ended up getting couple pipes and some pipe tobacco and a box of cigarillos. If you are a fan of what we German's call Genussmittel you owe to yourself to pay a visit here. The only disappointment is that you will be wishing your local tobacconist (awesome as they might be) was this sophisticated and epic. Highly recommended.

First Experience: After meeting another American couple at the Viktualienmarkt over Masse of Augustinerbrau Helles, he says he is looking for cigars when we realized we are BOTLs. We walk over to Pfeifen Huber and I was able to help him with his Cuban selections, given I have the only two Cubans they carried during Oktoberfest: the Romeo y Julieta Diana's from their Linea d'Oro and the Montecristo Leyendas. He purchased both, but the Gentleman working there was patient and answered their questions while addressing other customers. Second Experience: An hour later or more, I decided I should buy some smaller vitolas than those I brought to Germany and smoke the smaller ones at the various places I was seeing where a smaller cigar would be more acceptable to those nearby. I returned to Pfeifen Huber and the other Gentleman was short with me, despite my German fluency. They had one box of Sumatra Panatellas from Jacob van Meer and a few others, so my decision was not complicated. However, the shortness with this one Gentleman was noticeable, despite my fluency in German. Not a word of English spoken. I enjoyed my entire time in Germany and, as an African American, one is far more experienced and likely to notice any slight. I never experienced anything close to this curtness in Germany for Oktoberfest, regardless of the number of people I encountered and with whom I communicated, including the other Gentleman who was as gracious and respectful as anyone I met in Germany this time. The Sumatra Panatellas have been smoking great, with good construction and better flavor from that Sumatra wrapper in a small, but not unrewarding, vitola. Two different experiences at Pfeifen Huber and one stands out as the exception. Their Cuban selection is limited now owing to conditions in Cuba and the increased foot traffic from Oktoberfest. I did not see any other shops offering the same in Munich.qnd I had researched this prior to my journey to Munich. There is another cigar shop in Starnberg that looks promising and A La Civette in Paris is the oldest in Europe where they will take all the time with you as you care, including Cuban Rum tastings among other spirits. 3.0 stars

I also wanted a couple of European regional cigars, and in addition, whenever I visit a pipe or cigar shop in my travels I like to find a tin of local pipe tobacco to share with members of my pipe club back home. So it was that I met Gérard at this shop back in late May of 2018, and I had an excellent experience. He suggested a tin of Vauen Bavarian Blend No. 3, which I am thoroughly enjoying. I'm a cigar smoker primarily, and he knew cigars exceptionally well also. Speaking as a long-time cigar enthusiast and international traveler, this is what a good tobacconist shop looks like! This was my third visit to Tabak Sommer and it won't be my last. The tram stops right at the door and the selection is excellent. You won't be disappointed, but do make sure you bring cash. Credit cards are not accepted, and there are no cash machines nearby, as a previous reviewer noted. If they'd had an ATM on premises I would have bought much more than I did.

That said the two Vietnamese-German ladies that helped me and my family were kind and knowledgeable about their products. My kids and I got some well-priced and gorgeous jewelry and I got myself a new glass pipe with an awesome snake winding around it. The customer service person even wisely suggested a screen filter set for when I smoke hash in said pipe. We ended up chatting for a while about being immigrants from continents far from our own and the challenges of keeping up your native language skills. It was a great way to just connect with like-minded locals. Seriously if you like Asian jewelry and artwork or need new supplies for your consumption of Cannabis (if you're lucky enough to live in a place where it's legal) AND you're in Munich you owe it to yourself to come here.
