unpleasant way to collect a medical bill - had only one letter sent & then got a judgement served to me. Ridiculous

I hate this company with a passion. I had $130 bucks go through to collections because we were in the middle of a car accident court case. Even though I told Harmony Imaging we were in the middle of a court case they still sent the bills to collections namely PROFESSIONAL FINANCE COMPANY. After multiple calls to them from my lawyer, PFC STILL SENT MY COLLECTIONS TO COURT AND I WAS TWICE SERVED WITH A WARRANT TO APPEAR IN COURT TO ADDRESS THESE CHARGES!! THEY EVEN SLAPPED ON LATE FEES AND COURT COSTS! And refused to drop these extra fees! My lawyer then sent them a check in DECEMBER 2018. Which they cashed! i have a copy of it sitting here on the desk! PFC then sent the collections to another collections company called ACA or Account Brokers of Larimer County. What a big f*ck up. I sent copies of both bills and the cashed checks to PFC and ACA. Its been on my credit report listed as ANOTHER past due collections since February of this year with NO attempt to reach me. I am BEYOND my limit! I just mailed another copy of the check to ACA. hopefully they can help straighten this out. Im about ready to file a complaint with the BBB and reach out to the FBI for fraud. read more

Current medical services made a mistake with billing and sent it to these unscrupulous people. I called many times to tell them to contact current medical and our insurance company to fix the problem. They said if we want the problem to go away we better pay them. This "Company" took over 13k from my parents bank about last night no leaving a penny. Never called no letter or even an email about any debt their is nothing showing on credit or anything. Very Rude, was trying to help my dad set up payments and these buggers hung up on me 3 times before I finally got someone that was decent and would talk to us past my first sentence of "I need to talk to someone about making payments". Will reserve further judgement now that we have sent payment as to if they settle account in timely fashion. read more

I just barely received a call from this place and the woman wouldn't tell me anything about what was going on nor would she answer any my questions she just kept asking the same things over and over again and then when I wouldn't to give her the information that she was asking for she said some prepared little speech and then hung up the phone. My suggestion is to not give them any information unless they give it to you over the phone. Or if you have a PO Box then give them that but otherwise don't ever give them your home address or any of your billing or credit card information. read more

If I could give a 0 star review I would. This company is bullying people out of money. They are charging an insane interest rate on bills that people obviously couldn't afford to pay to begin with. They contradict each other, trying to make you seem illogical, they don't work with you at all. I paid a bill off on a Monday and nobody thought to call me to let me know That my bank had rejected that payment. Friday I call to see where my receipt is, only to make that payment for the SECOND time and they tell me they cannot give me a receipt. I have never In my life paid a bill that I cannot get a receipt for. The email they told me to email asking for a receipt goes who knows where, with no response. This bill is a matter in a court case and my next step is to have my attorney call. This is a joke of a business. Customer service is atrocious and wouldn't wish that interaction on my worst enemy. Also would like to add I have been paying on this bill since 2017 and have received ONE PIECE OF PAPER FROM THEM. One bill. No proof of payments, payment reminders, nothing. When my 25$ payment arrangement didn't process they got a court order to garnish the balance of my bank account and took my rent money. And then suggested it wouldn't happen again if I just made my payments. The LEAST PROFESSIONAL company I have ever worked with. I have worked with other collection agencies that at least talk to me like a human and are willing to work with me. These people don't have any knowledge of even slightly decent customer service. If they are after you good luck. THEY WILL NOT TELL YOU THIS But IT WORKS!!! If you have bills at PFC, the Best and Quickest way to Pay them off is...... 1. Make payment arrangements A)With PFC or B) If you get served to appear in court regarding a judgement GO TO COURT!!! You will be able to talk to the judge and make payment arrangements that you can afford. (If you don't go they will garnish your wages and take 25% of your check) 2. Go in get a list of your debts. (You get 1 FREE per 6mo. or year can't remember which one it is.) 3. Pay the most recent starting from the smallest amount to the largest and work your way back to the oldest. (After 7 years if a payment hasn't been made on "That Bill" it falls off but if you make a even a small payment the 7 year starts over, that is why you work your way back to the oldest.) 4.When you go in to make a payment You tell Them what bill you want your money to go to. 5. Keep your receipts and keep track so you know when one bill is paid off and it's time to choose another. 6. Whatever you do, DO NOT BE LATE OR MISS A PAYMENT!!!! It will/could void your payment arrangements. (not worth the gamble) IF YOU DO NOT USE THIS METHOD your payment will be distributed among all the bills you have in collections with them , adding interest resulting in we'll almost being impossible to pay it all off. read more

Just received a call and the woman from Prof finance company she asked me to give my DOB but she would not tell me what type of company she was calling from!? She told me to look it up!! How would I know if this was scam call or not?? Bill collectors normally state this is an attempt to collect a bill and you are being recorded.. she never said any of that ! read more

*UPDATE* originally gave one star due to a similar experience with three previous CSRs, however a return call to a 4th CSR was finally helpful and polite * I understand that collections companies often get negative ratings due to the nature of their business which isn't really fair. However, my critique is a legitimate one of customer service. Today I called to find out dates of service for medical collections to ascertain if they were patient responsibility after insurance was billed, or due to an error with the original creditor billing my outdated insurance to ascertain if I should pay these amounts or take up with my insurance. I was as friendly as could possibly be, communicated with a literal smile on my face so she could hear the warmth in my voice. I know these CSRs deal with a lot of angry individuals. When I thanked the CSR as kindly as possible for her help at the conclusion of our phone call, rather than saying goodbye she just hung up on me. Please, CSRs, do not presume that not all individuals seeking information about their collections are angry or rude, and please treat each individual calling with respect until the conversation dictates otherwise! read more

I had a collection of $34 or so go through from what the insurance company didn't pay. I then received multiple calls from "Professional Finance". I agreed to pay the amount that was owed, but then when I asked to receive confirmation that this was paid they told me that they do not send out receipts unless requested in writing. I just made a payment and expect to receive proof from the company that I paid without having to jump though hoops. I requested to speak to a manager and after being blindly transferred to a number of voice mails I finally reached Derik Garhardt. My experience with him made things even worse as he was speaking condescending and said that it was their "policy" but wouldn't explain why nor would send me a receipt of the proof of the money that I just paid. He then became belligerent and hung up on me. No customer service there just a pompous arrogant person. Yes I understand they are in the collection business but still treat people with respect and provide a receipt when money is paid. read more

PFC violated my rights 1. Ignoring disputes 2. Not furnishing proof of debt in a timely manner (to date** not at all) 3. by serving an unknown party (No one in my hh received a summons), and not myself. This means information about me can be out there AND they did not give me opportunity to prepare a defense due to the improper service. I found out there was a summons issued against me because of a search that I did in the court database to find out whether or not my separation case was moving forward. When I saw that the case number was not the same, I immediately emailed and then called the court and ask them what this was. This is when they revealed that I need to show up at court, and they gave me PFC phone number. I contacted PFC, and they refused to send me the proof of debt unless I put it in writing, but this meant that there was no time for them to receive and respond to my request for proof of debt before court date. Meanwhile I disputed again, the alleged debt, with my credit bureau, and they found sufficient evidence to be able to delete it. I had to meet with the lawyer when I showed up to the court date that the court gave me, and the lawyer told me that the only reason why the credit bureau deleted it was because I asked for a dispute at least three times. I know that this is not even a true statement! Otherwise, everyone would dispute 3x everything (owed or not) and have 800 credit scores! Lol Also, I informed her during the disputes, I actually accidentally disputed something that was valid (due to my phone auto selects ALL), and that valid debt is still on my credit report and will remain on there until I pay it off. The fact that the lawyer misrepresented how disputed information, once investigated, works is concerning. Additionally, I feel that they may have deliberately withheld information, served the wrong person (violating FCRA by giving 3rd party my info!) if they even served anyone, and gave this false and misleading information in hopes that I would never know about the court date, and they would get a default judgment. I feel that I may not be the only person who has had this happen in the past. Their lawyer also suggested to me, that improper service, though illegal, only delays the processing that I would still be responsible for paying the alleged debt. I let her know that that is not what the law says at all, and also that I know that improper service can cause them to have their case dismissed. She then told me I would not be allowed to collect on any damages based on my defenses as aligned above. She has no way of knowing what I can collect on, and that sounds a lot like a thinly veiled threat to me. She then said that she was willing to do a continuance (or i file answer) to research this account further. However, she was supposed to have her burden of proof for her client already ready to go, because that is WHY they are there. Clearly, this is just an attempt to stall because they know that I have something on them. I have another court hearing in April, which she said is postponing the inevitable because she alleges I owe the debt, without proof. I was able to furnish evidence that no one in my household receive paperwork (proof of debt or proper service) as appropriate, and, that I recently had the only adult in my household served with separation paperwork and I showed her the picture and his license, that my process server used. She then tried to state that my divorce service was their service. I said no look at the case number, it is different and I'm only bringing this to show you that my process server was able to successfully serve the only adult in my household, and what he looks like for your reference. The lawyer does not seem to be very experienced in FCRA laws, by telling me the things that she said. For these reasons, I asked her to go to the judge and vacate the Judgment request. She said that she was not going to do that that the most she could do was give me a continuance. I have every intent to ask the judge to dismiss their case and not entering the Judgment based on their violations of the law. read more

"professional" finance company is the worst company. I got a notice of a court date served to me in my office. I called them right away, and was told if I were to pay before the court date, it would be canceled, and the account would be paid in full. I get the money together, call and pay before the court date. They tell me I do have to pay all the court fees, or go to court. Basically I am paying for fees for date that has not happened. According to these monsters the fee is approx. $200. My original debt was less than $200. They charged interest, but will not provide any statement showing how interest was calculated. I asked for an address where bills were being sent. They gave me my mothers address, who passed away in 2007. Then I was told I have several address because I moved around a lot. Well actually I have lived in the same place for the last 6 years. Even If I did move around, why would that matter?? They are now garnishing my wages for the court fees, for a court date that should not have happened because I had paid in full before the date. When they sent the paper work to garnish my wages they included a coworker that does not work in HR, payroll, or accounting. Basically they illegal sent paper work to a third party informing them of my debt. I asked why they had done this, and they told me to refer to the paperwork. how would the paperwork tell me that? They just keep adding fees so it is impossible to pay off your account. They are complete monsters and everybody should be ashamed to work there. they are literally stealing money that I worked for. read more
