I suppose one might say it is like a Target or a superWalmart, although it really isn't like either of those. It is just a GIGANTIC grocery store AND it has a Harold & Barrett (is that what it's called? I always get confused. Honnold & Barrett?), which is a bio store (health food center for you Americans). People even get their hair cut here. Actually Wexford Town Center has quite a few bio stores, which is insane and good. This Tesco is not far from the main streets, so you can walk to it. It is also a good place to walk around when it rains. They have a very good section of beer and wine as well.

Another small gem in New Ross! Great takeaway selection of smoothies (for that hot Sunny Southeast…read moreday!), coffees, cold salads, and warm platter options (lasagna with or without meat, quiches, pies). The coffee is dee-licious, best you can get in town. There's no seating in the front for the deli or cafe customers so you'll have to buy and go. There is a small space in the back for the restaurant. I ate there once or twice - the food was tasty but the prices were a bit much for me. My panini was more expensive than one I'd get in a fancy-pants cafe in Dublin. The place is always packed though so there must be quite a lot of people who don't mind paying through the nose! Oh there's also a lovely little selection of gourmet cheeses, wines, pastas, rices, you-name-it just between the deli and the restaurant. So if you're struggling to find tofu in New Ross, come here - they're sure to have it!

These are but some of the images evoked by holidays by the beach and this is usually the state I find myself in whenever visiting this Londis. Its is in the small seaside village of Fethard on Sea and is one of those typical local medium sized supermarkets that for its size is surprisingly well stocked. They've a large baking section, a frozen food area, a respectable veg selection, although it can vary depending on delivery days, a home goods area, and all the bits and bobs you might find yourself without if you were staying on one of the many campsites or holiday homes nearby. They also have a sweet and ice cream section which are what sugar addicted kids dreams are made of. It's maybe a little expensive for some items, but that's to be expected when they are the only option for miles, but they are handy in a pinch and are reasonably priced for the basics. I also LOVE that they stock a good amount of local produce which they clearly label as such; eggs, bacon, milk, honey, yoghurt, great brown bread, all from nearby in Wexford, there are even salad bags in the summer from a local woman's garden.  One thing that was surprising to me is that they don't have fresh fish caught locally, perhaps there's no demand, but it's a shame. Instead there's a guy who comes by early on Saturday mornings with a van that parks at the side of the shop from whom you can buy the local catch. All in all a grand little spot with friendly staff that I'm a regular at when in the sunny south east.

There was only three wait staff servicing the entire restaurant....service was good, but those guys were working hard. One tip: make sure if you order a coffee you order a large one. Now in this town, there's The Bay Cafe, a lovely cafe perched high over the harbor. Inside you'll find a bay window - an actual bay window - holding a tiny table for two. This is Ireland, so you will be lucky. The table will be waiting for you. Have a seat. Order anything. Your meal will be truly delicious. Arguably the best thing about this place is the decor and atmosphere. I've been to my share of cafes and I don't exaggerate at all when I say this one has the best style I've ever seen. I think it could probably be described as shabby chic, but I'm not an expert in these sorts of things. Tea was typical, nothing special but I didn't expect it to be. Not enough to detract from the 5-star rating and it certainly wasn't bad. Reasonably priced, I think it was about 4 Euro for a cute little teapot that had three cups' worth of tea. I was there awhile as I had to sign up for university courses that day and once I got peckish, but not hungry enough for a meal, I asked if it was too late to order a brownie. They were starting to wind down at that point and had every right to refuse but not only did they let me order-- they were also exceptionally polite and friendly while I did so. They were accommodating and lovely to their other customers too. I struck up a conversation with the owner and said the cafe was much better than any I'd been to in Canada; she seemed very pleased and said she would have to tell that to her Canadian friend. The brownie was so rich I couldn't finish it. This is in no way a fault of theirs-- I just filled up quicker than I thought I would! They offered cream too which I accepted, and it went very well with the warm brownie. tl;dr Personable and fast service, nice tea and great desserts, absolutely stellar decor. Absolutely stop by if you can.
