Friendly staff. Lots of options for food and treats. Walked around just to kill time and noticed all the fish in the back, surprisingly none of them had dead friends in the tanks. All the little creatures in the store looked well cared for. Birds, hamsters, kittens, lizards, fish and cute baby Guinea pigs. Store was clean and well organized. read more

Was trying to buy my son his first pet for his birthday (a $3 goldfish) had the bowl, a small plant, food, net, ready to get the fish and they refused to sell me the fish because I was not going to buy a 29 gallon tank for a goldfish. Now I have raised many different type of fish (goldfish- I had one live for 4 years; cichlids, game fish, etc.) I know that in a small bowl the water must be changed every couple days to maintain health levels, I know the care needed for a goldfish, but they refused to sell me the goldfish. When I pushed that they didn't have their goldfish in a 29 gallon tank (for 1 fish per the signage) I was told "you can talk to the manager." At no point did they try to help me find a fish that would be better for the bowl I was intending to buy (like a beta for example). Spoke with the manager and he told me that if I had said I had a bigger tank at home he would have sold the fish. He didn't know the petsmart was a corporate name store. He was also not helpful. Ended up going to a better fish store with much more knowledgeable staff but this place almost ruined a 4 year olds birthday read more

As soon as I walked into the grooming center the lady that was supposed to do my cats grooming looks like she didn't want to be there ( Shelly ) , then she attempts to groom my cat with zero effort , please note that cats overall don't like grooming she gave up within 5 mins because my cat was hissing at her. Then recommended me go to a different pet smart to try there, so why did I waste my time coming here today if you can not do the services? If your cat is fussy don't even bother coming and wasting your time making an appointment if the staff can't handle cats hissing at them. read more

This was one of my favorite PetSmart locations before this happened. I got a prescription for my dogs food from my vet, my vet was out of it so they directed us to this location which had it. After we got there, we realized the vet never gave us our prescription and PetSmart refused to give us the food without it, which was fine. After we finally got back, a female employee pointed me to the food I needed, where I then grabbed it and took it to the register. After all the hassle with the prescription, about a week later I realized the lady hadn't even grabbed the right food- I called the store and I was told I could get it replaced because that was on them. When I got there I was told that the normally they would not do this, because "PetSmart is not responsible and you need to make sure you get the right food". Yes, I made the mistake of not double checking what the employee had said, BUT why would they sell me the food that WASN'T on the prescription? They make a huge deal about needing a prescription, but I could go in there a buy something thats not even on my prescription? When I asked, they said they don't even read what foods on the prescription and just put in the prescription # and check the expiration date. Why is there prescription dog food being sold here if they aren't gonna make sure the prescription matches the food.. ridiculous. read more

I went to get some more plants for my tank. They have a large selection of beautiful plants to choose from! They also have the root tabs available as it can sometimes be hard to find them in stock. I used to shop here when looking for specialty treats or restocking food, toys, etc for my pup.. decided to take my puppy in today for a groom / nail clip, however it did not take place. That's a whole different story; I'm here really to focus on the things I saw while walking around the store. Let's start with cashier, she has been at this store for years and I've known what type of service she offers.. she's a cashier that doesn't say much., but does her job, fine. She atleast said hello when I walked in... I think.. but nothing else after that for the remainder of the night and I didn't buy anything. I walked to the petsalive area where it was about 5-10 minutes til close... very excited bc we are also considering adopting and felt it was a good opportunity to see how our dog reacted with the others and vice verse. The lights were cut off as we were looking and the guy rudely said they are closed. I walk out and tell my girl friend about a very sweet dog that was in one of the cages... she goes to look and the rep comes out again and rudely says "we are closed, that's why the lights are off".. she replies, "I hear ya, just wanted to see this dog real fast, he's adorable..". His reply.. "yeah, well we're closed". Wow... as a dog lover looking to adopt; there was such a lack of passion and genuine care for the animals and their opportunity to find a good home. As soon as the clock hit closing time- the rep walks out with a group. Poor service. Then we are unable to get our puppy groomed.. tried everything but was never informed of necessary paperwork prior to nail trimming.. and of course, also communicated in a borderline rude manner. Of all employees in the store that I encountered., I think I saw 1 that appeared to be in a decent / customer service appropriate mood. I will not return... if you love animals and want a friendly environment, I'd try a different location as well. I hope this store can get it together; it's hard enough as it is in the retail space. Why go to your store and receive rude service when people can order the same products online. Treat people right and offer great services... that will help store traffic and overall sales. read more

I took my Siberian Husky for a deshedding treament on Aug 26. I have had this done on my other dogs with amazing results and expected the same for my puppy. Tori was friendly, and certainly made Comet feel at ease, but he came back damp and still shedding horribly. I understand that Huskies in Texas will inevitably shed and I even understand that the process might suffer because of COVID, But giving a dog back (an hour before I expected him even) damp? I love the service here I had taken my Pomeranian to Petco because it's convenient me closer and they charged me $76 just because he's a Pomeranian he only weighs 5 lb I don't understand why they need $76 I was looking around and I totally forgot that PetSmart has a grooming facility in PetSmart as well so I went and took my dogs there and they charged me $40 flat rate fee. I love is this place they take really great care of your pets they truly love their job and they don't take 5 hours Petco took 5 hours PetSmart took an hour and a half. read more

This is my favorite PetSmart in the San Antonio area. I've never used the training, but I frequent the store for pet supplies. The most impressive thing for me here (and what keeps me coming back) is the friendliness of the employees. They have always been friendly when I've visited and helpful to get me the food/toys/accessories that I need. They also seem to know a lot about different animals, whether cats, dogs, gerbils, or fish. As far as inventory, I think they have some of the best variety of items and the best stocked shelves of the local PetSmarts. I can find a good selection of items whenever I go in. I believe you can also have items delivered if they are out-of-stock in the store, but I've never had the need to do so as I can find what I want in-store. Another viewer mentioned that it smelled like urine when they went. I think they may have arrived just after an accident because I've never had issues with it smelling bad when I've gone. It's usually very clean for what I expect at a store with frequent four-legged visitors. I'm especially happy that they have partnered with Animal Defense League to do their adoptions. They've expanded their adoption center for both cats and dogs to include bigger and nicer cages, as well as play rooms where you can take the animals out of their cages and interact with them. I've shopped at this Petsmart for a decade. I'm a Windcrest resident and try to patronize local stores as often as I can so that they'll remain in the area. I spend a TON of money on my babies. Literally hundreds of dollars a month. I'll never shop at this store again. The decline in customer service and store condition is directly related to the new manager, Eric. His attitude is completely unbecoming of someone in a management position. He's extremely rude and the way he spoke to my friend and last night was enough to stop me from ever stepping foot in the store again. It's not my first interaction with him but it'll definitely be the last. Way to go, run off your regular customers with your nasty attitude. No wonder the store is always empty now. read more

I love the fact that this store is so convenient and that I am able to get almost everything I need for my animals all in one store at totally reasonable prices. They carry the majority of dog foods including the obscure brands, by alas do not carry the brand that my dog eats (Natural Balance) so I am forced to go to the competitor for that. They have recently started to overhaul both the inside and the outside of the store and move things around but all in all it is still pretty easy to find what you need. read more

Husband & I adopted a puppy from another state while living there. We quickly realized our puppy was very anxious & fearful of people. The Banfield pet hospital (other state) took the time to talk to us on ways to help her not be so fearful. At every appointment my puppy was shown kindness & patience. She was never fearful of going to the vet. Upon moving back to San Antonio I realized a entirely new location & new people might be too much for her. Weeks before her appointment I called to talk to someone. I voiced my concerns about her anxiety, it's not an exaggeration when I say my puppy is fearful of strangers. I was told "we're licensed vets we know how to handle this" I thought "okay.." when her appointment came we get there, check in. Lady at the front desk was very kind. When the dr came to take our puppy back, she tells my husband to put her down. We tried to tell her she would get scared and freak out. "It's okay put her down." So he puts our puppy down. While the Dr. tries to get her and take her back our puppy is crying & trying to get away. Puppy ends up peeing all over the floor from fear. THIS is what I tried to avoid. Dr. Then tells us to pick her up and hand her to her. Which we tried to explain might be better, but obviously the owners that know the dog aren't right. :) Our puppy was terrified. Within 5-8 minutes we get called back that she's ready to go. So my terrified dog was just given shots, poked and messed with. And in 8 minutes she was ready??? I don't believe anyone took the time to comfort her. She was just as terrified when we got her back. I know my dog. I know what she needs and deserves. My husband and I do not let fear take over her life. We give her time to get comfortable with new situations. The fact that a "licensed" vet didn't take the time to do the same is infuriating. We will never take her back to this location. read more

Took my dog to get groomed and he was injured that resulted in him getting an infection. They sure kept making sure to say if they were responsible they would cover the vet cost but if they weren't at fault it would be on me. The vet confirmed it was due to grooming and I haven't heard a peep from anyone to apologize for what my poor boy has gone through. read more

I used to use this PetSmart to buy all of my cat's food. I have repeatedly been disappointed by a lack of cashiers at the front. I spent a lot of time getting the cat food only to get up to the register and stand in line for ~15 minutes because there's only one cash register open. On the other hand, you could see numerous employees just roaming around the store asking people if they need help. Once I told one of them "no I don't need help, but you could use another cashier up front". They just ignored me and went on their way! I was also upset by the fact that they pick the busiest time in the store to restock shelves where the pet food is located. I literally had to reach over a person sitting on the floor to get the items I wanted, because they were too clueless or rude to realize they were in a customers way. They are so friendly and really listen to my concerns if I should have them. I am so happy I have found them. I almost gave up on PetSmart grooming after some so-so experiences at other locations. My pups love going here. I try to get them outside of the house as much as possible however I can honestly say the bearded guy is always happy to see dogs run to him. Her appointment and information could not be found, so literally the only way her info was finally able to be located is by going through each day on the calendar to spot her information. The phone number she provided did not match her info in the computer. The manager she is bashing handled the situation professionally and could not be any nicer. Unlike the customer who threw a tantrum, the manager never raised his voice and remained calm the entire time. He gave the customer a district number, but he has no control if they answer the phone or not. This customer was rude, and did not act like a reasonable civilized adult. read more

I scheduled an appointment with Abby because she worked with him before and I'm trying to get him familiar with grooming, she was still working on someone else's pet which is fine had I not made an appointment and she had just started she says okay it shouldn't be to much longer they wanted to take my puppy and put him in the back until she was ready no thank you so I walked around the store a little still not ready so I let someone else do it mistake I explained very well what I wanted she cut all the hair off his face and the hair on the top of his head that I specifically asked her not to touch then had to sit there and wait for Abby to hold an entire conversation with someone else the same someone who's dog she was working on during my scheduled appointment so I wonder how long my puppy would have been siting in the kennel waiting for her just a few minutes as she leaned on the counter if I wasn't already moving I would not waste my time here again the dynamic between the workers felt awkward with her bossing people around who were already doing there job nice lady but maybe she's been doing it to long and it's a bit to comfortable read more

I Have been taking my dog faithfully every month. Called Saturday made an appt for 8:00 pm today, when I arrived two workers I have never seen before acted strange like I wasn't expected..sure enough they can't find me by name or phone, I asked to speak to the proverbial "Manager", worst mistake! Mr. Gasper Gonzalez lacks any compromising and managerial skills, much less qualities to resolve a situation. Mr. Gonzalez purposely gave me a number to a corporate office he knew was closed. I had to do an online search for their 24hrs customer service. Mr. Gonzalez wanted nothing to do with finding a solution to a situation they created by deleting my account because when I called Saturday my file was there. Again I have been going to this location every month, but after today and Mr. Gonzalez's disdain for my dog and me I will take my faithful business elsewhere. Things happens, occasionally computer or human error, but Mr. Gonzalez condescending and nonnegotiable attitude made something frustrating feel 10 times worse! To Andrea, your clerk gave me the wrong time! In two years of taking my pet there I was never late! You guys lost my record because you put it under someone else name. Errors and mistakes happen; however, your Manager was incapable of resolving a simple matter and lacked the expertise to quickly resolve and defuse the situation. This person was rude, unprofessional, and failed to provide an appropriate phone number for customers complaints. Your rebuttal is self serving, full of inaccuracies, and in full display of your arrogance. I have been with Other Pitt bull Owners to Take their Dog to be groomed at other Pet stores, EVEN other Petsmart Locations & So Many times Regardless of How young the Puppy is The Groomers ask if they can Muzzle the dog! I went in this Petsmart to check out the new adoption facilities. There were 2 girls sitting at the front desk doing nothing. When I approached they didn't even bother to look up to greet me. I signed in and went in the back to see the puppies/doggies. When asked to take one out I was told by the one girl that I could give it a disease. "It is like a toddler", she said and refused to take him out. I was shocked, more like discriminated against is the way they made me feel. Very disappointed in the treatment I received.
