This Petsmart location is near and dear to my heart because I adopted a wonderful cat here more than ten years ago. The employees were very helpful when I was in the process of adopting her, as she was very scared, and she ran and hid. They found her, gently coaxed her out and got her safely into a carrier so that I could take her home. I stop in here when I happen to be in Lafayette, and I find the employees to be friendly and helpful. The store is well stocked, and they have a great selection of pet food where many other retailers seem to be out of some brands and varieties. On this visit I selected several new toys for my pup. They had a large selection of Star Wars toys, and I found some that were just the right size for my small dog. Squeaky toys, of course, as that is the kind he prefers. read more

I made an appointment for January 4th for my dog to get bathed. Due some issues they had with staff they couldn't see my dog so I understood and rescheduled them the following Saturday the 11th. I bring my dog in as it's his first time getting groomed here and brought in all the paperwork he needed to be seen (rabies shot etc.). They call me again telling me that the person supposed to wash my dog called out which I understood and didn't mind if I used someone else but again, would make my dog wait for the other dogs even though he had an appointment made twice. They declined me because they said that my dogs rabies shot was expired since 2022 though the paper work says everything was done in 2024. My dog wasn't even born at the date that it said in 2022 and was born 2 months after! Definitely unprofessional and definitely don't want to groom or bathe my dog here. read more

After taking my dog here for grooming for almost 5 years, they decided they need to charge me more because he weighs 2-4 pounds more than a normal Shih Tzu. He didn't just start weighing more yesterday! But, they decided they needed to charge me extra. Been here a couple times since becoming an aspiring aquarist, and it suffers the usual crap pet store problem of making sure to only stock the shelves with the highest priced items, even when the online store lists that they have cheaper stuff/versions there. Whatever, I suppose, on that point. What I don't shrug off, though, is being lectured about something I already know. I went in to buy another koi, as I am preparing to stock up a small indoor pond I have been putting together. They ask me what kind of tank I have for it, and I answer honestly of it is going into a 40 gallon tank (for holding until the pond is done). The snooty attendant just looks at me like I am stupid and claims that I need a pond for koi, to which I say yes, I am putting together a small one now, the tank is just temporary, to which I get a lecture about how they don't sell fish to people who have "inadequate aquariums" (never mind I was buying a baby, who only need around 40-55 gallons to start with, to put into a relatively large and temporary tank), but they would make an exception this time. Why, thank you, PetSmart, for giving me a koi out of your dingy, 20 gallon aquariums. I am glad you gave me the opportunity to try to give it a good life rather than letting you flush it down the toilet if no one ever bought it. So, yes, I don't appreciate being lectured on things I already know, nor preached to by puppy milling hypocrites. They've permanently lost my business. read more

Seems like they care about all the other fish in the back of the store and not the betta fish. Found this poor guy in the same condition I saw him in when I was last there. Disgusting water conditions and algae growing in the container he came in. I am very pleased with the grooming services at this PetSmart location! My dog is 8 years old and has been going to a different groomer for years; however, I was in need of a new one since we moved. I was hesitant to bring him into a pet store for grooming but it ended up being a great experience. The ladies were very welcoming and personable and asked me a lot of questions before beginning. Tiffany, the groomer, even called me shortly after I left to ask if he needed a nail trim which was great because I forgot to request that. He seemed happy when I picked him up and was groomed exactly how I told them. We will definitely be going back to see Tiffany. read more

I brought my dog in for a bath here for the second time. The first time, was fine, no complaints. However, I was not pleased at all with the second experience. His appointment was at 10:00am and they said give them 3 hours. At 1:30pm, they called saying he was ready. I didn't have a problem with the little extra time because I told them to just have him air dry since he doesn't like the blow dryers. I got there to pick him up, and the girl brought him to the front. I could tell his anal glands were just recently expressed since I could distinctly smell it first thing. I also noticed that he was still covered in dandruff but I figured it was just from the brushing. It did not look like or smell like he was given a bath at all. Walking around PetSmart a bit before going out to the car, I noticed he was limping. His back right leg was shaking and looked painful to walk on. And he was hardly putting any weight on his front left paw. I got him out to the car and had to physically lift him into the back, even though he normally eagerly jumps in. The whole car ride home he was acting super scared and sad. I called PetSmart to see if he had twisted his leg or anything just so I could better address his injury, the lady said nothing happened. I felt as if she was lying though, she was very hesitant on responding to the question. I've read many negative reviews about PetSmart's grooming services and ignored them. I'm just hoping this review will encourage other owners to stay away from PetSmart when looking to pamper their pet. read more

My pup has always gone here for her grooming appointments, and although I find it to be pricey, it seems to match up consistently with what other places charge. They always ask how I want her to look, and they even have this sample board with different fur lengths so you can say how short you want the hair to be. The first time I dropped her off to be groomed the groomer, Tiffany, requested extra time so the two could take their time and get to know each other in case my pup got scared. I am thrilled every time I pick her up, and they even add (ridiculous) cute bows to her ears for when I come to get her! Highly recommend this location for grooming, and Tiffany! I gave this location a 4 because some of the people who work the front registers are very rude and are pretty upfront about not wanting to help. read more

OK, OK. I know this place is a chain, but I have a standard (giant) poodle and they do a FABULOUS job grooming him. I've taken him to 2 other locally-owned grooming places, and they couldn't hold a candle to the ladies at Petsmart. SERIOUSLY, I KNOW. Most of the groomers who work here also own their own grooming businesses, and they are super professional - which is why my giant poodle always looks fabulous. They treat my dog and I so well, and genuinely care about every animal that comes through their doors. The last groomer I had even painted his toenails for free... A+ service in my book. The final clip always looks great, is completely symmetrical and properly proportioned; their scissoring is top notch, he looks like he's wearing a coat of velvet... I seriously can't get over how awesome their groomers are. On the retail side, I have had only good experiences. The store employees are always super nice, and they have a good selection of products. I'm very much a "shop local" person, but when I get such great service from a store, I'm going to come back. I've been to a small local pet supply place downtown on 4th street, and though they're nice, their service is no match for the helpful Petsmart staff. Hmmm. read more

Employee named Mallory was very rude. Was told she was a manager. Went in to buy some fish, there were several children around the fish area, including my own daughter. Informed Mallory and another associate that a fish in a tank was being bullied and eaten alive by the other fish. I then informed them of some dead fish in a few of the tanks as it looks very bad for a store trying to sell live fish with some dead ones. Mallory than made several snarky comments with me and very rudely asked me if "I was making a purchase or just standing around." I informed her that yes I was planning on making a purchase but was still looking at my options, to which she replied very rudely once again to "let her know when I finally made a decision" and stormed away to go talk to some people whom I assume were family and friends. I then overheard her start to trash talk me to these said people around the corner complaining how I was being rude for asking to get a fish that was being killed out and to get the dead fish out. She then proceeded to mock me. I then noticed an African dwarf frog being picked on by some fish and getting eaten alive. Very disappointed in petsmart as a company to mix these frogs in with the aggressive breed of fish to begin with. Mallory was ignoring me at this point. I asked twice to get the frog that was being picked on. She very rudely asked if "I was going to buy the frog or if I was just going to continue with my rude commentary." To which I replied with well "I told you I wanted the frog." She then got very rude with me, started arguing with me over my "commentary" and how it was rude to tell someone how to do their job. I then asked if they ever got the dead fish out of the tank and she yelled at me "yeah we do" to which I said "well clearly you don't seem to care too." She then yelled at me asking me if "I wanted the frog and if I was done making my "rude" comments." She then gave me paperwork to fill out for the frog and I asked what it was for and she yelled at me that it was for the frog. I asked for a copy as I legally have the right to one. She got very rude that I would dare to ask for a copy. She then proceeded to give me a healthy frog instead of the one being attacked by the fish. The whole point of dealing with her rudeness was to rescue a frog that your employees seem to not care about. I wish I could give a rating of -0. Recently I decided to once again patronize the Lafayette, Indiana, Pet Smart to purchase doggie booties for my Granddog. My friend accompanied me but, was unfortunately walking down one of the aisles and stepped in a massive pile of dog/animal POOP! Wearing sandals, She had just had a pedicure done. The poop ended up all over her feel and underneath her toenails. The incident was absolutely GROSS. I had a list of over $100 worth of items I was attempting to purchase. After the incident, I decided to only purchase 2 items a teddy bear toy and the boggie booties. Considering the Most unfortunate incident of my friend's foot being grossly bathed in 'Dog DOO'. As it took a good period of time to get her sandals and feet cleaned, we requested a small discount considering our unfortunate inconvenience. While the sales person who half heartedly worked to clean up the mess had assured us that we would receive a 10-20% discount, however upon proceeding to pay for our selected items at the register, we were told that the manager declined to honor the said discount. I HAVE PURCHASED MANY ITEMS AT PET SMART PREVIOUS TO THE DATE OF THIS INCIDENT. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT THIS PET SMART LOCATION IS HORRIBLE! This is my second time, dealing with the manager directly and indirectly. This manager and many of the staff should return to customer service training immediately! Although the other staff at this store are kind and loving to myself and my pup, the store manager and Kelsey, the primary trainer at this PetSmart, made me feel quite unwelcome recently. My dog and I were coming to observe PetSmart training because she is very anxious. While we were observing, another dog came and tried to play with my dog and my dog growled at her. The manager then asked me to leave which I perceived as a surprising and Esther unreasonable reaction. While I was discussing this with the store manager, Kelsey aggressively cut me off while I was talking, raised her voice at me, scared my dog, and had to be asked *multiple times* by the store manager herself to stop talking to me aggressively. To make me feel even more unwelcome, she also listed all the qualities she didn't like about my dog. Not the temperament I would ever be comfortable with a dog trainer exhibiting around a customer or a dog with whom she would be working. Needless to say, I decided not to enroll her in training classes with Kelsey. To be fair, I have yet to encounter a single other negative employee at this store and I have been coming here regularly for a long time. Store manager JeanAnne is a nightmare. I wouldn't let her within a mile of my pets out of fear of her actions. She is rude and condescending and I will no longer visit Petsmart as long as she continues to work there. The prior store manager was excellent however JeanAnne is the type of person who dogs growl at. Very poor hiring decision. I feel genuinely sorry for the employees who work for her. If I had written this review a couple of years ago I probably would have given this store only 3 stars. However, a recent remodel and the fact that they now stock much higher quality pet foods and litter make this a 5 star review. The staff is always knowledgeable and polite. There is a huge selection of pretty much anything dog or cat related, although I can't speak to the quality or quantity of less-traditional-pet supplies. This is a great place to take your pets and do some shopping- you can find me there with my two dogs and cat picking up cat food, litter, and dog toys pretty often! I do buy my dog food elsewhere because I found a brand that my dogs liked better than the Blue Buffalo Wilderness that I used to get at PetSmart. However, that's not worth taking one star off- the selection here is fantastic and the environment is great. I definitely recommend this PetSmart! read more

Why waste our time when we could be spending it in another productive way! DO NOT SUPPORT THIS STORE! I had an incident this morning that really hurt my heart for my sweet fur baby, Meeko. I called the local Petsmart grooming salon to schedule a groom for my Meeko. I spoke with Sabrina, a groomer, at first. She pulled up his chart and saw he is 14years old and said "oh we cant groom him because of his age. We dont groom dogs that old." MY JAW DROPPED! What in the world did she mean?! She had NEVER even MET my dog! My sweet and well behaved dog who has been an excellent grooming patient his whole life has now been, in my opinion, discriminated against due to his age. I asked why not and she tells me that its because he could "possibly not do well for it". Then She starts going on to say "oh and I see he has seizures and that he is partially blind, yeah we definitely cant groom him". I am appalled. I asked to speak with her manager. Gean Anne, the manager, gets on the phone. She tried to tell me it's not because of his age but because of his medical issues. I tell her he was rejected by Sabrina right off the bat just because of his age, even before she saw his medical conditions. She says it's "for the safety of my pet". I go on to tell her that his medical issues are well controlled by medication. That yes, he does have epilepsy but because of his medication has not had a break through seizure in years. That I only notify groomers of his conditions because I am a responsible pet owner and want them to be aware of his conditions up front. I have never, ever, had him rejected by any groomer ever because if his life long medical conditions or any other reason and that now that he is in his older age is now being denied grooming. She said that they do not discriminate due to age, that her own poodle who is 16 and has medical issues of his own still is groomed there. My jaw dropped again. So because Gean Anne WORKS there her pet who is OLDER than mine with medical conditions of his own gets to be groomed but mine doesnt because I'm just some random full price paying customer that they dont want to deal with my senior pet. I just couldn't speak to her after this. I am heartbroken that this facility, that should be filled with animal lovers, discriminated against my poor innocent Meeko without ever having met him. He is an excellent grooming patient and should never have been treated this way. I have submitted a complaint to the corporate office and am awaiting a call from the district manager. Please DO NOT take your pets, young or old, to the Lafayette, IN Petsmart. DO NOT have Sabrina or Gean Anne groom your pets. They do not have compassion or empathy for animals and should not be working in the animal industry. read more

Honestly, I don't support the breeding part of their store as it is mass production breeding with the breeder being Reptiles By Mack. A lot of the animals from there are sick or inbred and just not the healthiest. The treatment is awful and most of them die or arrive half dead or missing limbs as well as bloodied. The setups are tiny little glass box windows with improper husbandry which leads to health problems right away or in the future. My first snake was actually a rescue from here. She's my prolapse snake who luckily has not prolapsed in over a month finally (I've had her since last October; it's now almost June)! I had come in three times that week to pick up some heat mats, jungle mix and ferret food and I kept looking in at her every time I came in and she had the prolapse just hanging out on the Aspen bedding. Anyone who is into snakes knows that in any situation where a snake is sick, especially with a prolapse, should be on substrate such a damp paper towels to keep it clean and monitored until a vet trip is available or until you yourself can set it back it place (ONLY if you know what you're doing). I couldn't let her die being in such bad condition. So, I brought her home with me. She's been through a lot and I've worked with her on strengthening her muscles so that she can pull the prolapse in herself and it not require surgery and she's done it as well as working with her to put on weight because she was so skinny and you could physically see her spine when I rescued her. So obviously, I do not recommend getting snakes from there for sure nor any other animals as Reptiles By Mack is the supplier & I definitely feel like they are pretty negligent and don't care about animal welfare at all. As far as foods, toys, dog sweaters, etc., there's tons to choose from and most of the employees here are pretty nice and willing to help you when you need it. So if you're going in for the necessities for animals you already have, then sure, go by all means! read more

The staff here is always helpful and courteous. The store stocks a good amount of pet food and a variety of toys. However, what makes this store a step above the rest in town is their contributions to local shelters. When I adopted my kitten from Almost Home Humane Society, I was told to go to this Petsmart and they would give me a bunch of discounts. They ended up giving me a decent-sized coupon book to help me get what I needed for my kitten. I found that to be a good gesture on their part. I also like the fact that most times I come there they have people from the local shelters there with adoptable animals. They even had a food drive the one time to help supply food for a local non-profit cat rescue. I could probably find some of the stuff they sell cheaper on amazon but their commitment to the local community and shelters makes this the go-to place for all my pet supplies. I would highly recommend giving them your business, especially if you got your pet from one of the shelters they help out. read more
