The groomer (Lily!) was ready for my dog as soon as we got there for my dogs appointment! She was very friendly to our pup and greeted him before taking him back. She made sure I was getting everything out of the appointment I wanted and made extra time to add on a service for my dog. The pet groomers did not trim my cat the way I had originally asked them to and claimed that they were (to busy that day). I went back to get her re-trimed for free, I asked them for the same cut and instead they had heavily insisted on my cat getting a lion's mane cut. So I said fine, worst decision ever, my cat looks horrible and they said it would take 6 months for my cat to fully grow it's hair back. This was done in February it is now July and I don't see my cat growing all of its hair back within the next month. Never getting my cat cut here again. read more

My boyfriend and I just adopted a cat from the humane society through this pet smart. Emily helped us both days we were in with any questions we had. She spent an enormous amount of time with us and I am so grateful. It really made this transition so much smoother because of how knowledgeable she was with every step. I visit this store on a regular basis to get my pet needs. The store is always very clean, and the staff is always very pleasant. They always have an answer for me when I ask questions and are so knowledgeable about every kind of animal and their habitat. The only minor complaints I have about this store is that when you walk in the door, you get hit with a horrible dog stench every time (Given it's a pet store in sure this is highly unavoidable) and they often run out of crickets which is one of the main reasons I go. Went in today to get fish for my fish tank. I was looking for fancy tail goldfish and an bottom feeder. The person that came up to me to help told me that they would only sell me 1 fish. Mind you they have lots of fish in a tank the same size as mine. The respond they gave me to explain the difference is " we have a special filter for ours" . This specific location has left me dissatisfied. While the selection of products is good, there's nary a helper in sight when there are questions about these products. These real dilemma for me is watching the dogs be ignored in the dog camp. The dogs were literally just standing there. Just bored. There were about 10 dogs with one staff member. The grooming here is terrible. Twice my dog had some bad experiences in a six year window that encompasses two different stints in this location. Consecutively, I had bad experiences. One time my dog was shaved near his eyebrow and cut where blood was drawn. Another time, he was dragged by the chain upon dropping him off. He is a Shih Tzu who had his spleen removed months earlier and could have been picked up. It just felt like they were a little rough with him when it wasn't needed especially considering his age, size, and condition. This occurrence happened last year. I haven't been back to use the grooming salon for my pets since and that will continue. read more

She was diagnosed with pneumonia again right after getting her haircut at Petsmart. Due to a bad bath given she swallowed so much water she now has pneumonia and is fighting for her life. They sent an email asking me how my visit was, I actually responded. There was dog pee everywhere and it just was really dirty, I didn't want to be in there so we got in and out as fast as possible, I think they should take lessons from the Grandville store. read more

We went there this Saturday afternoon to grab some crickets for our gecko. The store was bustling with activity, and we had the chance to pet some sweet dogs thanks to the policy that allows pets in the store. The store itself was clean and tidy. Everything was organized very efficiently. We found The Crickets close to the aquarium, however there was only one employee working by the aquarium there was a significant line. We waited for a few minutes to make sure that we were where we needed to be, and waited a few more minutes in order for him to help the other two customers in line ahead of us. The employee gave us good advice on the corrective for us to get. Just wish there was less of a wait in order to get it. There were also quite large lines at the checkout, but they opened a line quickly. All in all it was a pleasant experience at the store we will be back now that we know where to find our crickets. read more

I have always been a fan of daycare at PetSmart and have usually received great service from the grooming salon. However on recent visit were received bad service as our dog captured water into his ears...$400.00 later the problem is finally fixed. We had three vet visits as well as the PetSmart grooming fee that has been a costly lesson for us. PLEASE make sure you alert the staff to insert cotton into your pets ears if required. I would also be wary of appointments on busy days like Saturday as they appear to cut corners during busy days. We brought our concerns to the management but received nothing more than a minor consideration. read more

Petsmart Doggy Day Camp is a fine place to take your pooch to play. They offer two 4 hour play sessions a day with a nap/treat break in between. All the dogs get to hang out all day together and play, play, play. You can drop off your pooch as early as 8am and pick them up as late as 9pm. All of that fun for just $20 Buckaroos! They also have a la carte services you can add on such as: grooming snak kong doggy ice cream treat bath nail trimming etc. I picked up my little one at 6pm. She slept in the car on the way home, then litterally crawled into the house.....waited for me to get situated and snuggled with me on the couch, gave me a light kissy on the cheek, and fell asleep before 7pm. It was adorable how she struggled to stay awake and the way her little paws twiched as she was dreaming about her fun filled day. Awesome place. Great experience. read more

I use PetSmart for my dog's nails. They are reasonably priced, I can get in without an appointment even on the weekends, and everyone working is so good with Samson, my doggie. I find that some of their items are a bit over priced so I typically buy my dogs food online and have it shipped or else I buy it elsewhere. They do have a wide selection so if your pet is new in your life, using Pet Smart to try out food and treat options is a good way to go. read more

I am pretty sure that this is the first PetSmart to ever come to Grand Rapids. We stopped in here to help my mom pick out a new dog harness and leash for her dog. We did not have her dog with us as she is crazy and well, would probably drive us all crazy spending that much time in the car. Anyway...so we took a guess on the size. When you walk in the store is laid out very, very strange. There are 4 registers at the front along with the grooming department. On the left side of the store about halfway back is the pet hotel...but it did not appear that they had vet services on sight like other locations that I have been. The store is dark and looks dirty just because of how old the lighting and flooring is. We never saw an employee while we were shopping other than the 1 person at the register. If I needed anything in the future I would go back again. Now since we did guess on the size we were wrong. So the next day we had to come back to exchange it. That is not their fault at all and I will say that the exchange process with them was very, very easy. read more

I would not recommend this location of PetSmart for grooming. I don't know if the groomers are ever trained to groom. Twice our dog's coat, ears, face hair was badly uneven and her paw was bleeding when we picked her up. They are kind but it's a crapshoot as to whether you get what you pay for. I'd choose zero stars, if I could. I have brought my puppy here twice now. The first time I went in, I had the "head dog trainer" follow us around the store making comments towards how I was handling my dog ("If you carry her like that she'll get used to it and have separation anxiety!! You might wanna reconsider"), touching my dog all over without asking, and asking a pile of questions when I indicated I didn't need help and didn't have any questions for her. At this point, I had my pup for just 3 days.. it was a new experience going there and she had intense anxiety after the first few minutes, so yes, I picked her up. I understand trainers have their own expertise, but I did not come there for a class and I sure didn't need a trainer following me around acting like she knew better. The second time we visited, I brought my pup in for a nail trim. They offer free trims up to 6 months of age. My pup was understandably very nervous. As I tried to comfort her and help the staff member get their leash on her, I was scolded, told I would just "freak her out more" if I helped, and that I should "leave so she's not scared". Again, I understand staff have expertise, but I was by far the more experienced and knowledgeable of MY dog in this situation.. and I was completely ignored and resisted by the staff. I declined to leave my pup in there alone, stating she's still young and I know what's best for her in this situation.. so what did the groomer do? Picked my dog up and took her to the furthest grooming station away from me. Absolutely ridiculous.. will not be taking my dog anywhere near that place again. read more

We moved to GR from Chicago, where we always had great experiences with our local PetsMart. This location has proven to be just as good. The staff have always been incredibly friendly and helpful. We enjoy boarding our mutt here, and having her groomed. Nothing has ever been an issue. I know exceptions happen, but our experience has been a 5-star one every time.
