I used to be a loyal Petco customer. I generally don't go to PetSmart mainly because Petco is a little easier to get to, is usually a little less expensive on some things, and just out of general habit. But now I am a loyal PetSmart customer. I had the worst customer service experience ever at Petco earlier, so I went to PetSmart to get the crickets I needed. I was waited on by a very nice young lady there who told me she'd be right with me while she finished up with another customer. I mentioned my bad experience at the other store, and she sympathized with me and was very helpful and friendly. There was only one cashier (who was also very nice and personable) and a line several people long, but it moved quickly. So as an added bonus, I won't have to wait 10+ minutes to check out at Petco anymore. read more

We love Petsmart! And so do our fur babies. We bring them in once or twice a month to walk up and down the aisles and pick out a toy. They love to sniff out treats. And of course they get lots of attention in their cute little outfits. They have so many options for clothing for my little ones. It is so fun shopping here. And they don't mind you trying the clothes on your dog to make sure they fit first, which is very helpful. It's fun looking at all the other dogs in the store too. We also take advantage of Banfield pet Hospital inside of the Petsmart. They are super friendly and have good prices, all our animals go here. read more

Husband and I were looking to purpose a Robo Hamster, we thought we knew all we needed to from the Internet but thankfully we spoke to the PetSmart Associate, Oliver, and omg wow! He helped us out so much! Was filled with so much knowledge about the hamsters!! We got everything we needed!! Also the front desk associate was super nice! She greeted everyone that came in and out and I loved I was able to here her say "hello" and wish the customers a nice day as they were leaving! I didn't catch her name, but she had stunning green hair! This PetSmart is a bit of a distance from me but I will continue to come out here! Well its a bright and stocked store depending on what you need. Store is known to put returned damaged products back on the shelf. Went there yesterday to pick up some mineral air logs for my fish tank. They run about $5 to $8. I did find what I was looking for but every single one of them was broke. Pricey store, unknowledgeable staff about the products and at time very unprofessional. A lot of joking around and horse play goes on around the check-out area. Went to PETCO and they had what I needed plus more. I think this PetSmart has seen the last of my business. Be careful when buying National Geographic products. NG does not make aquarium products anymore or parts, however this store still has them on the shelf for some reason. I suggest going elsewhere. read more

My pup and I love this place! PetSmart is literally one of the few places you can bring your dog into and not get looked at like you're crazy when they knock everything off a shelf or pee on the floor. This has been my "momgency" (new dog mom emergency) go-to spot. I've made so many quick runs to PetSmart to get probiotics to stop explosive diarrhea (poodles have HORRIBLE stomach issues) and medicated shampoo for a super-itchy-allergic-to-everything poodle! I love that you rack up points for every dollar you spend. I also like that cool events are hosted here from time to time and there are always sales and samples. They also have a great dog treat selection. I stick to the basics like Milk Bone and Puperoni, but every now and then I buy one of the a la carte treats by the registers and my dog really loves them! Today, I bought this huge container of treats for $7 with my $5 reward. I love savings! Way to go, PetSmart! read more

Selection and variety is a big thing for me, especially when shopping for my pets. I've got a 90-Lb German Shepherd, a puppy Husky, and a 4 year old cat. They are all wonderful! We feed them the best possible food we can, which is definitely not cheap considering we have 3 animals, 2 of them considered larger breed dogs. My GSD's food runs around $60-65 in-store at PetSmart. I choose to buy it online which saves me about $10 plus it's free shipping. We've tried to get specific items here these past few weeks, especially since getting the puppy. Items like a slow feeder, training treats, and a treat pouch. The selection here on these items has actually driven us to go to different stores. They don't really have any viable slow feeder options and they only had one option for the treat pouch that was gigantic. Overall it's an okay store, and we will continue to come here for minor things, but any specialty items or big food purchases we will be going elsewhere. read more

They deleted my negative review of how inept they are at accepting a stray cat. I will continue to give them a negative review and now will encourage others to do the same until it stays permanently.  Background on the situation: I called them on 1 October at 11:36 AM about a stray kitten that I found and asked them if I could bring him in to get tested for rabies and see if he was lost from an owner. The girl that I spoke to said that I needed to wait 7 days to determine if it was someone else's cat. They referenced some Virginia law and I challenged her on what law she was citing. Of course she had no answer because there is no law for such a thing. I hung up the phone and then dialed a different veterinary clinic who actually took him in and checked him out.  There are many issues with the incompetence of this establishment, outlined below: First, if they actually cared about animals, they wouldn't want a rabid cat running around on the streets. They should want to either euthanize it or try to nurse it to good health. Thankfully, the kitten didn't have rabies, but the point still stands that Banfield is ok with having stray cats running around in our community instead of actually dealing with the problem.  Second, if I would have taken the kitten to the clinic, there was a possibility that they would have been able to find his rightful owner if he had one. The argument that they made regarding the 7 day rule (not law) makes absolutely no sense and anything with a brain could comprehend that they could scan for a microchip and determine the owner information. The vet clinic that I took him to scanned for a microchip and none was found.  Third, if you are going to cite a law, be sure to have said law readily available. Don't hide behind some bogus law stating that you can't do something when you know that you can actually do it. It makes you look incompetent, weak, and completely idiotic. Fourth, if I was going to wait 7 days to search for an owner (why is that my responsibility in the first place???), where do you expect me to keep the cat? According to your insane logic of waiting 7 days due to some bogus law, no kennel would have been able to take him in. Do you expect feral cats to run around forever outside, or are you going to try to fix the problem? Your choices and lack of actions point to the former, not the latter, which should concern everyone who does business with you.  Fifth, Banfield actually deleted my comments on this same subject around 14 November. Is this how you want to do business? The reason why their rating is so high is because they selectively choose which comments to keep. That's not ethical, and is grounds for making this public knowledge so that others know their schemes and corrupt way of doing business. If Banfield is deleting others' comments on Google about how terrible they are, just imagine what they do to people's pets behind closed doors. The situation about is worse enough. Now they've proven just how unethical and reprehensible they actually are.  I cannot stand such terrible establishments like Banfield. The incompetence of this place speaks volumes as to the quality of service and care that your animal needs. If you are looking to get great customer service with premier care, go to Kiln Creek Animal Care in Newport News. They helped the kitten fix multiple health issues within a month, something that Banfield could only dream of doing. read more

This is mine and my pups favorite hangout! When my husband and I got our husky we were completely lost and realized we had no idea what we were doing! Everyone at this store was so welcoming and helpful with tips on how to save money for buying everything for the babe! We still visit here at least once a week for puppy training, but usually 2-3 times to get the dog out to socialize in a safe space! Everyone knows her by name and she knows everyone as well! She even now has learned the word petsmart and gets all excited to go! We are moving to Newport need but will still drive to this location instead of the other store just to see some friendly faces while spending lots of money on this expensive dog! read more

I feel like I visit this location at least once every week or so for dog food, treats, and just any other random thing I need for the pups. Each time the service has been phenomenal and you won't last five minutes without an employee asking if you need assistance and if you're finding everything you need. They're helpful and friendly, and instead of just telling you where things are located, they actually walk with you until you find the things you need. The prices can't be beat either with all their sales and promotions! Just last night I bought a huge bag of dog food ($55) and a bag of dentastix ($8) and after all the promotions and the help of the cashier (since I didn't even know they were having a sale) I left with a huge smile on my face since I only paid $45! Wow! I can't think of one negative thing to say about this store. Who gives five stars to a pet supply store? I guess I do! We went in looking for a hamster and supplies. Period. We had an idea of what we'd need (based on a trial run that we had 10 years ago). We didn't anticipate being unprepared or confused about choices, yet we were. The woman that worked there was extremely helpful and informed and PROACTIVE and we left giddy and tickled and prepared. Yep, that from a pet store. The lady let us see the different kind of hamsters by pulling up their little hiding houses. She was able to give us an idea of each of their temperaments. She helped us narrow our choices down to two. While she prepped him, we went into the isle to pick up supplies. Once in the aisle, we were kind of stuck. We talked and pointed and debated. *lol* Because buying a house is a big decision, ya know? The woman let us know that she'd bring Zhu Zhu to the front and asked if we needed any help. "no, thanks, we got this." *lol* A few minutes later she found us in the very same spot, pointing and pacing and debating. So, she asked again. I wish I could remember exactly what was said, because her demeanor and question was so unobtrusive and innocuous that we happily accepted her help and advice. Once the house was picked, we thanked her and she gave us a pamphlet with a shopping list and went about her business while we continued. Picking a hiding spot was simple, as were a few other things. She passed by the aisle a few times, but didn't bother us while we were making progress. By the time we'd reached food, though, we were stuck again. *lol* And then we started rethinking some other things, like the size of the ball, food bowl... It's not like we were preparing to bring a baby home... But in hindsight, we probably acted like it that was the scenario. The woman came and, again, helped without us feeling like we were begging for help or being pests. It's unfortunate that I've come to expect that poor service as a norm, but it's the reality. This was good service that just seemed effortless on her part. That's more and more rare, and very commendable. It was five star service. Couple the service with the fact that the store is sparklingly clean, has no odor, is well-organized and well-stocked, and prices match what's advertized and it was and all-around 5-star experience. This is our go-to PetSmart for all of our Veterinary needs as well as our pet supply purchasing needs. We use Banfield Pet Hospital and have a monthly plan for both of our dogs where we pay approximately $55 per dog each month. This covers any initial charges for any surprise visits, all regular shots and preventative care, as well as fixing your animal if they are on the puppy plan. They also give you Trifexis for fleas, parasites, etc. The plan is great for the value. It is, however, pretty hard to schedule last minute appointments if your pet is sick. Usually we have to call around to all the Banfields in the area to get an appointment for the next day. In this particular visit we had a scheduled appointment at 5pm. We showed up 15 minutes early but still did not get called back until 5:25. Pretty frustrating, especially around dinner time. Other than that, the store is generally stocked well but they have the standard stuff. They don't generally carry multiple kinds of specialty items such as a training treat carrier, slow feeder, etc. I would like to see a bigger selection going into a store especially for pets. read more

We showed up 10 minutes late for a 5:30 appointment and we waited another 10 minutes until we got Kylie's attention from the back-- right away the groomer seemed agitated with us. I understand the importance of being on time and if there is a late fee ok but this was our first experience at the groomers here so, now we know. We ordered the Halloween/Fall service special which included a cut, nail trim and bow. We have a long hair dachshund and when I ran in to get the dog, it was obvious she had a bath, but her hair was not cut. Total waste of money for the haircut. read more

We just relocated to this area from DC and this was the worst grooming our Westie has ever seen. Completely shaved her back, neck, and hind area as close as possible like a buzz cut. Did not trim her tail. Would highly recommend asking for examples of dogs they have cut in the past before you let yours get groomed here. read more

SAVE YOUR PETS AND YOUR MONEY!! Brought my dog here for a simple bath and nail trim, picked her up and she couldn't breathe. So I took her to the ER vet where they had to give her steroids, put her on oxygen, sedated her, gave her other meds, and keep her overnight, costing over $600. I called the manager Nicki the next day and she said I would be reimbursed. She gave me the run around for weeks then months. After 3 months she said they weren't going to reimburse me because it was probably an allergic reaction to the clippers. My dog is a Pitt bull, there was no need to use clippers on her, she has short hair and I didnt ask them to give her a haircut so trimmers should have never been on her. My dog has been to plenty of groomers and has never had anything like this happen to her and isn't allergic. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this location. I came in here with a friend the other night with her brand new yorkie puppy in search of finding some bedding, crate, toys, and essentials for the new puppy. There were a couple of employees who approached us and offered many suggestions for different types of crates and the benefits. They also suggested that my friend purchase a petsmart savings book for new puppies because although its $20, it has much more than that in savings. This was a great deal and she bought it. When we were in line, one of the employees noticed I was looking for training treats and she gave me two free samples for the puppy to try, which I thought was super nice. I had my first grooming service called "puppy trim & bath." The first experience of the grooming service so I didn't know what to look for but it is clearly not what it says on the service description on the web page. no nail trim, small trim on feet and pad, no sanitary trim, no bow (I don't care but none). Staff was asked for extra brushing due to the first time and that cost an additional $20. Most of all, my puppy had small scratches and a hint of bled (it was small) but no staff mentioned it until we look closely. I called PetSmart Grooming service and they can look for seriousness. so I visit the vet to make sure it is not causing any infection. The stretch was minor but the puppy may have had a bad experience with this. After all this, I felt I paid for everything for the bath and small trim and all extra trips. Clean store, good parking. I have been here three times and only one of those times were negative. I went for an electric dog collar and a staff member wouldn't open the case to get it for me. I had to go up to the front three times to ask and waited over 20 minutes for someone to open the case for me.. and when I got home the collar was pre-owned.. cut and the battery was in the collar instead of in a pouch like the box stated it came in. Not good. The other two times were positive including Saturday evening when I went in for guinea pig food and replacement batteries. Getting someone to open the case went smoothly. The prices are nuts for guinea pig food.. I suggest shopping around. For 11 bucks you get the basic food in a 5lb bag.. and for 8.99 at another store (was closed at the time) you can get 15lbs of basic food. I won't buy guinea pig food from there anymore but I was in the area and needed it ASAP. The selection of live animals is near zilch at this location compared to others where there are dozens of furry animals and walls and walls of fish. read more

While the customer service was great( minus the cashier calling me a male), the grooming service was subpar. My dog has a very choppy cut. He has never looked so disheveled. I'm coming from Japan and they are AMAZING. My expectations for this groom service were based off Yelp reviews. They are nice, but they lack skill. Lesson learned.
