My experience with Destination Pet has been extremely disappointing, particularly when it comes to…read moreaccountability and communication. I paid for my dog Arya's spay at Midlands Veterinary Hospital. She later went through a heat cycle, and I subsequently found out that she had an ovarian remnant, meaning ovarian tissue was left behind after the spay. So my dog who was supposed to be spayed will now have heat cycles for her entire life. This is not simply a situation where a procedure did not go exactly as expected. Retained ovarian tissue can continue producing reproductive hormones and expose dogs to significant long-term health risks, including stump pyometra, mammary gland tumors, tumors or cysts involving the retained ovarian tissue, and other hormone-related complications. Arya may now require additional monitoring and potentially another surgery because of this. I paid for a procedure specifically intended to eliminate these reproductive risks. Instead, I am now left worrying about health problems that could affect my dog for the rest of her life. I contacted Angela, who is currently the Practice Manager at Midlands. I provided documentation and proof and was told that the records would be reviewed and that I would receive a response. It has now been over a month. I have sent 3-4 follow-up emails and have received no response. I also contacted Destination Pet's corporate office directly and never heard back from them either. I am not expecting complications to be impossible in veterinary medicine. I am expecting accountability, communication, and a willingness to address the situation when a paid surgical procedure does not achieve its intended result. Instead, I have been ignored.

This shelter is one of the worst when it comes to honesty, communication, and compassion toward…read moreboth animals and owners. My situation involved my dog being seized after running at large and biting someone. I will fully admit that my dog was aggressive toward people he didn't know because of trauma from his previous home. As heartbreaking as it was, my family eventually made the difficult decision to euthanize him. What made this situation unbearable was the way the shelter handled it. After multiple phone calls with staff and supervisor Dani, we were clearly told that we could come Saturday to sign the papers, euthanize him, and pick him up afterward. Because he was deeply loved, we visited him several times beforehand. The day before our scheduled date, we came to see him again, discuss giving him a last meal, and sign any paperwork they needed. Instead, we were informed they had already euthanized him without notifying us -- after specifically telling us Saturday was the agreed date. Their excuse was "miscommunication." One explanation was that because my sister visited him Thursday, they assumed it was okay to proceed. Another excuse was that a supervisor approved it because he was considered "a danger." Yet when we directly asked if he was a danger to staff, we were told no, and that they "deal with stuff like this all the time." Even while visiting him, I personally watched staff interact with him physically, and he responded calmly and familiarly with them. The entire situation was handled with a complete lack of professionalism, compassion, and communication. It honestly feels like they knew they could get away with handling things this way because of the circumstances surrounding my dog. No matter the situation, owners deserve honesty, communication, and the chance to properly say goodbye to an animal they loved.

When a vet at a different practice said to put down our dalmation, Dr. Ruff smiled, gave us hope, and our dog lived 12 more years. They take time to listen, give honest answers, take walk-in emergencies, and stay late when needed. They will discuss treatment options and the price for each. They are open to alternative medicine and I have never been overbilled or felt pushed toward more expensive options. I trust their judgment. While you may have to wait and office staff are super busy, they remember our names and sincerely care.

The office that did his surgery didn't have a vet on call, and I was worried that he wasn't going to survive if I waited overnight, so I contacted his former (retired) vet. He suggested this hospital and suggested that I take him immediately given what I had told him. It was a little after midnight when we arrived. They were very nice to us. The vet could tell how distraught and upset I was and how worried I was about having to leave him, but he needed IVs. She assured me someone would be in the room monitoring him all night. He was there for 20 hours under observation and they called me at work a couple times the next morning to give me updates and let me know that he was better and was charming all the nurses. I picked him up later that evening, and he was so much better. The vet and techs were very professional and very nice to us and provided me with a plan to get him completely back to normal over the next week. The visit was expensive, but I knew it would be since we went in at midnight and he had to be under observation. It was absolutely worth it. They called to check on him. When we returned to his normal vet to have his stitches out, the vet didn't even seem to care what he had been through. I cut ties with them that day and found another vet, but I'm happy to know this hospital is there if I ever need care for one of my boys during off hours. They saved my little boy, and I will be forever grateful for that. This actually happened a year ago, but it just showed up in my calendar today, so I felt compelled to share my experience.

Everyone was very nice. They asked questions and listened to what we had to say. You could tell that they actually like pets. My dog was very nervous and stressed and both the Vet and the Vet Tech worked with her. The Vet and the Vet Tech came in to draw blood - which did not leave a spot on her unlike Banfield that made a mess. They ran some tests on my girl and could not find any major problems. She prescribed a medicine for the nausea so my dog could eat. Told us to keep feeding her rice ( add boiled chicken) along with the unflavored water with electrolytes that we were already giving her and eventually incorporate her dry food back in to her diet. They never tried to sell us a bunch of products or give us a bunch of medicines to give the our dog. They were more than patient with us and our girl. They were completely willing to talk with us and make sure that we were at ease. By that night our dog had energy, she was eating and drinking. I will definitely go back! Thank you Dr. Herbers! And the Vet Tech - sorry I did not remember her name...
