I've been to this store a couple times, usually to grab treats, food, or toys for my sibling's dogs. There's normally no issue on that end except that prices for certain items can be a bit on the high end. (Example: The "Train Me" treats are like $8 when in the same shopping center at TJ Maxx they have the same thing for about half that price.). However, as I've been coming more frequently to check out the dogs since I've been planning to adopt one, my heart starts breaking upon seeing their living conditions. There is always feces or pee in the spaces, the dogs look tired and miserable usually, and many of them look unhealthily underweight. What ticked me off enough to write this review is when I went in on Tuesday, January 11th. I saw this adorable pup named Corky who was absolutely sweet. He greeted us, let us pet him, etc. We walked away for about 5-10 minutes and when we walked back to see him, we realized he defecated on his pee pad. What concerned me was when I saw corky eating his own feces, I told a worker and the worker at first looked like he didn't really know what to do. He ended up grabbing a plastic bag and a paper towel. He picked up the doodoo with the bag and wiped the pee pad with the paper towel. He was practically just smearing poop around this pee pad with intentions on keeping it there in the pen. When the worker walked away, Corky was licking up and eating the left over poo. It was nauseating to watch that whole thing when the simplest solution was to just pick up the whole pee pad and throw it away. The store states that they focus on the health and conditions of animals and to give animals a place where they won't be neglected. However, from what I experienced, their actions contradict those statements. Only reason why I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 is because I've been helped out by two other workers who are super laid back and helpful multiple times. My sister got a kitten from this place they say they take good care of animals .. umm they lied to us smh so pissed and upset we met the kitten. We were excited to bring her home to a loving family. She was the most amazing, loving kitten we've ever met. The kids loved her. She got along with all the animals in the house. She was the best kitten ever after a night or two, she started sneezing, we got scared when we noticed that she wasn't walking right and she wasn't going on the bathroom by herself, but she was only two months old, so upsetting that when we took her to the emergency vet, it turned out we couldn't even name her because she passed away like that. They didn't tell us any information that she was sick or anything. We didn't know that they don't let anybody know the information on the animals they have you sign a statement which is the first I've ever heard because all the cats I have in my house from the SPCA we didn't do that at the SPCA, which is ridiculous to sign a paper so we called them to tell them that the cat passed away because we are all upset and crying and the person that took my phone call hung up on me rude!!! Not only that I went back and looked and I saw that a lot of people complained about how dirty it was there even the dog kennels are disgusting new animal she live the way it does at this please do not buy from this place I wouldn't even bother buying trees when you can get it out of better reasonable price than this shit hole thanks a lot for giving us the most loving cat and thanks a lot for breaking all our hearts I will make sure none of my family ever walks foot in the store read more

SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN AND FINE THEM !!!!!!This Pet store/Adoption center is selling or "adopting" out sickly kittens and puppies and falsifying medical Veterinarian paperwork stating animals have clean bill of health. I adopted a kitten named Curly from here just this past this Saturday 09/14/24 I was charged $400 and given paperwork stating she was cleared by a vet and ready to come home with us. I was told this kitten was 8 weeks old, litter trained and dry and wet food ready. I noticed right away something was wrong with this sweet girl as soon as we got her home, so I promptly scheduled a Vet appt for the next day Monday 09/16/24 We learned horrifying information about my kitten, she is not 8 weeks but between 5-7 weeks, too young to be away from the mother or not be bottle fed. She is severely underweight and malnourished, she weighs 15 oz, less than 1 lb. A kitten her age should be 2lbs at least! She has a severe disability known as Cerebellar Hypoplasia, there is no known cure for. It causes cats and kittens to lose balance and shake or wobble uncontrollably. She tested positive for Ringworm and ear mites as well. It cost an additional $300 for her Vet appt and will cost more as she gets older. This is deceptive business practices as I was informed of any of these underlying issues and also animal neglect and abuse for this Pet store to not correctly care and treat these animals, and there were 7 others in the pen with her. I love this kitten already and so does my family but were duped into believing we had adopted a kitten that was healthy and cared for and going to live a long and happy life. Unfortunately, her life will indefinitely be cut short due to the severity of diseases and complications that were hidden from me and my family! This is not fair this needs to be stopped there are sickly French Bulldog puppies there too, one has boils covering his eyes. read more

This place really gets under my skin. They sell an amazing variety of animals however it appears most are in bad condition. When you first walk in, you're greeted by the rancid smell of urine and feces. That alone should have made us turn around and leave. We ended up looking at the guinea pigs and adopting one, they were all huddled in one corner of the cage, and the male guinea pigs next to us started fighting and literally biting eachother. The young associate hit the cage a few times to get them to quiet. Yikes. Then she ran off to "look for a box" so we can transport our guinea pig. She came back with a Feline Greenies box, poked ONE hole in it for air with a pen, than TAPED the box closed with packaging tape. Who knows how sanitary that is, and i'm sure the guinea pig wouldn't have enough air. (Also pictured how dirty the dog kennels were) I really feel bad for these animals, and i'm sure all the young associates didn't know better either. read more

DO NOT ADOPT FROM HERE. We adopted a kitten from here and we just got back from paying $260 at the vet and thats just for starts. He has an upper respiratory infection, an eye infection in both his eyes, and hes had diarrhea since we got him 3 weeks ago. They make you sign paper work stating that they are not responsible and you are responsible for the medical bills for the pet after adoption even if they are sick when you get them. I would not adopt another sick animal from here even if I was paid to do it. Im hoping that my kitten gets better with the meds from the vet, but needless to say I am very disappointed with my experience here. UPDATE we just took our kitten back to the vet for a 2 week follow up, and mentioned he still had diarrhea 1 month later, so now were also having to spend an additional $250 to treat him for the parasite COCCIDIA. Walked into today to see dogs laying in, covered in, and surrounded by feces. Their paws and tails were caked in diarrhea and poop. It was so disturbing. I frequent ASPCAS and have never seen animals kept in such abhorrent conditions. Trying to pet a female dog that was petrified and gain her trust, all while having to turn my head away from the intense stench of dog feces she was covered in and surrounded by. No living thing should be subjected to these conditions. We watched staff members walk up to the pen and check it out like it was fine. It was so far from fine. They should have all permits and rights taking away from them to care for animals. Shameful. So shameful. read more

LOOK AT THE PICTURES. 3 dogs sitting in piles of feces, all of which, were there when we entered the store. We stayed for 15+ minutes to see if anyone would approach us, or clean the mess. No one did. Not the groomer, 2 workers at the register, no one. We stood by the pen and no one said a word. Not "would you like to look at the dogs?" Nothing. I get it, they have a lot of dogs, and poop happens. But these dogs are sitting in piles of it all day. This is animal abuse. I had a great experience at Pets Plus. I came in to use a coupon sent to my home, and the product I wanted was unavaiable, so a girl stocking the shelves said to come back the next day when the shipment arrived. As I was heading to return my cart, I saw the dogs they had for adoption and noticed that they were rescues and some were older, which I really liked versus puppy mills. Anyways, I was so enthralled with the dogs, I put the cart away with my purse in it. Thankfully the young lady who helped me before, found me and returned it. The next day I came back to get my 60 lbs of dog food, and a new cashier lady helped me add and additional coupon to my order which was a whopping additional $8 in savings. They actually have much better prices for holistic food than the bigger chains. Due to all the savings, I was able to donate to their adoption efforts. All in all purchasing my food took a whole 5 minutes, which allowed for a deliver of a few 6 week puppies. Needless to say, I stayed at least another 30 minutes playing with the puppies and talking myself out of adding another dog to my family. Overall, I was just really happy with the customer service I received and the store is very clean. The kettle area is actually huge, I don't know what another reviewer saw, but much more space my own dog gets in her crate even. I will definitely be returning, if only to release some stress by petting puppies. read more

I find their products more expensive than Petsmart I was there two nights ago and the employees kept her face mask under their chin. Awful, awful experience! We purchased a bunny a little over a year ago and it died suddenly. We took it to the vet and they told us that it is probably a parasite from her Mother and laid dormant until now. So I spent a fortune taking the bunny to the vet only to have her pass a few hours later. Do not get any animal from this facility!!! Save the puppies and kitties please! My daughter and I come here before or after the movies (which is in the same parking lot). We come to look at the adorable pets and sometimes engage in interaction with them to get them out of their small (extremely small) living quarters. Each time we go in it really breaks our heart and I always say I'm never going back because I cannot stand to see it and then I feel conflicted thinking that since I am walking in, I am sponsoring this behavior which im not. I feel these animals are worthy of rescuing just like those at a shelter because of their living conditions. They looked so sad. I thought most of the living quarters could have been much cleaner - come on you are a for profit pet store make sure your living quarters for the animals are clean. I mean there was feces in their living quarters that looked like they were in there for a bit of time. I overheard an employee telling a family they get all of their dogs from kill shelters and although I'm not entirely sure I do not believe that, you had many cute little puppies at the pet store that will be sold up and cute little puppies are not that often in kill shelters because someone will buy them, it's usually the older mutts that are at the shelters to be put down :( The staff I encountered were okay although I thought the one girl was a bit rude to me personally. I'm not sure if their prices are reasonable I do not know the standard when it comes to the amounts for pets. read more

I would definitely recommend pets plus Bensalem for your puppy! I read some reviews on here that were very misinforming I never had to buy a bag of food in order to adopt my puppy as a matter of fact they gave me a bag of food just to try out when I was in there a month later. Also it never smelled like poop or Urine in there the workers are diligent in keeping the place clean and making sure all puppies can be seen these people were great it's a shame some people just want to give a bad review. read more

Bought a rabbit from here the end of November and it died about 3 weeks later. Got another rabbit and it was bloated and weak so we had to return it. They refunded us by giving us yet another rabbit. The 2 kids working there ( boys) seemed to be very good to the dogs. The dogs were very excited when they walked by. I know that some look so very sad and understandably ...These are rescued animals and this store is helping them ! Not harming them ( thank u to the owners ) it broke my heart seeing a few that were obviously in sad situations prior to their arrival .They don't know much about them because they rescued them ! They saved them and it's not the employees nor the owners fault .I rescued my dog from a well known rescue and they knew nothing about him. I know they saved his life though They are a pet store with dog and cat adoptions. They are rescuing these animals from bad experiences and they are not euthanizing them as they have to in other shelters. They are helping those poor animals who are condemned in the SPCA and the Humane Society . Obviously someone cares about them enough to help them get a chance that they wouldn't get otherwise . I could tell the boys were good to the animals just by the animals response. I would love to help them in there . I think the owners have their handsful and deserve ALOT more credit then what they are getting . It's a very hard job. They aren't asking for anything yet they are saving animals lives . One of the only good things, about this pet store is the dogs come from rescues and not puppy mills Yesterday (7/26/18) a friend and I went into to the pet shop just to see the puppies and the small pets as soon as you walk in your gusted with the stench of animal feces and urine. That's isn't good but thing the that really tracked us off was a guinea pig that's had been sitting in a cage alone and was said to be fine although when my friend walked over we noticed it was laying on its side kicking its legs and flicking its head up and down, it was clearly having convulsions or a seizure although that wasn't it with the poor fella with its hair being extremely patchy which is known Sarcoptic Mange and I caused by mites. That's really why I wouldn't recommend this pet shop to any one. :( read more

I am very happy with this store, and the staff are very nice and helpful. I don't always find what I need but the manager on duty is always willing to order in what I may be searching for. Only issue I have with this store is the register system seems to always be freezing or shutting down. Hope it gets attended too soon, very frustrating when I am in a bit of a rush. THIS STORE IS CRAP! The employees are a bunch of young kids who do not know what they are doing. They tell you one thing when really it's the opposite of what is actually true. I waited an entire month to get my pet rat, the employees told me I had first dibs and they would call me when they were ready. I went there almost every day of the week to check on them for almost a WHOLE MONTH. Then two days after my last visit the sell all but two of the rats!!!!! What as the point of constantly reassuring me that they would call me as soon as I could pick them up if that was a lie!!! I'ves seen several of the young employees in all of my visits there on their phones, clearly not giving slightlest bit of care to their employees. I'm so Furious by this experience. I came here yesterday looking for a kitten and I found the perfect little kitten and I was told that she couldn't be placed on hold which is understandable but I did make it clear that I was interested. The next day I decided I was going to adopt her and put money down for her, I called in advance leaving my name and information saying that I will be coming in and I was told the kitten was still available. Upon arrival the manager is completely rude and tells me that the kitten was already adopted 5min before I came in. She told me that nobody wrote anything down or even told her I was coming in and I told her that I gave my name and she proceeded to say that she wasn't the one who answered the phone. I got my first bunny from pets plus and it wasnt until i went to get lola a friend when I realized how uneducated these people are on the animals in their store. It is ridiculous how this business is up and running. I told them i needed a female rabbit so i picked one that they told me was female. When i brought this "female" rabbit home i soon realized that it in fact was not a female. So I brought him back just for them to tell me he was fixed. Which was a big fat lie. Lola got pregnant and now im stuck with 2 unfixed bunnies and a huge vet bill just to fix this problem that pets plus left me with!!!!!!!!!! Will never be back! We recently adopted a puppy from pets plus. I am very happy with the process. Our puppy came from a rescue in Mississippi and is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met. We took her for a check up at our vet and is in good health and even the vet said she is one of the sweetest dogs he ever met. Yes pet plus does charge more than you would pay at the shelter they came from, but what's the price on family? Very happy with the experience. read more

I am HORRIFIED by what my husband and I just saw. We have been coming to this specific location for a while now (for dog food, toys, treats and considering adopting another pup.) we walked in and immediately a horrible smell hit us (can happen from time to time at a pet store, but not like this) the two open areas kept for playing with a puppy of your choice were occupied by dogs, and there was feces and urine EVERYWHERE. There was urine literally leaking through the gate door and the dogs were stepping in their own poop. Meanwhile, the employees are sitting at the register talking to each other! In one of the kennels, three puppies squeezed as tight as they could onto ONE cot, could they possibly get more than one in there? Other customers were walking around saying "this is awful, the smell is making me sick.." I can't understand how anyone would allow something like this in a FOR profit pet store. It makes me so, so sad for these poor pets who deserve so much better. I understand puppies are a lot of work, but these are paid employees!!! GET IT TOGETHER, pets plus! I love this store! The staff is extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and nice! I adopted two cats from here and I see so many bad reviews about people walking into the store and seeing pee or poop from the animals in their kennels, or complaining that it smells. You ARE entering a pet store.......anyway The staff work extremely hard to keep every kennel clean and they don't have time to stand around a kennel to wait for a cat or dog to poop again. As soon as they see that an animal has gone to the bathroom, they are quick to clean it up. They take care of everything else in the store as well. They don't just hire one person to be on pee and poop control. The manager ( Jordan ) is very nice, pleasant, informative, and never hesitates If someone has a question. I took my 10 month old dog here for a grooming. We recently just adopted our pup so he hasn't had too much training but the groomer John was very professional, and went the extra mile to make my pup feel comfortable with the grooming process. He took great care of my dog and my dog looked and felt great after his bath! The price was cheaper than what it would be at petsmart, and my pup received the same service! Very pleased and will definitely be bringing my dog back here for a grooming. read more

Never buy a puppy from this store. We recently were going to buy a puppy there and placed a deposit to hold the dog and pay the remainder when we took the dog home. They were supposed to refund the deposit if you change your mind or aren't able to take the animal home. Well, we went the store and politely explained we couldn't take the puppy and they refused to give us the money back because we had signed a paper saying that we waived the money if we didn't take the puppy. But, we had been told that was a paper for AKC registration and so they could reach us. THEY LIED!! it wasn't for that at all. They should tell customers that up front and even post it somewhere! And, after researching the store and company it turns out they do this on a constant basis and are under investigation for selling practices and selling sick dogs and puppy mill dogs . PLEASE!! DO NOT purchase an animal from this place!! (also, they refuse to let anyone take a dog or ca home unless you purchase a 20 lb bag of their pet food! ) read more

The staff is super friendly, but NEVER adopt a pet from here! I adopted a beautiful 6 month old kitten about a month ago. He was diagnosed in "good health" when they had me sign those papers...but good lord, this cat has had so many problems. I've already spent $300 in vet bills to get rid of the fleas he had, as well as tapeworm from chewing at the fleas and ingesting them. But now my vet says he has ringworm! He gave it to my other cat! Had he passed it on to myself and my boyfriend, you can bet I'd be lawyering up. This is the worst adoption experience I've ever had. I avoid Pet Stores that have puppies and kittens. It breaks my heart. But I had heard that Pets Plus was no longer selling puppy mill dogs and instead adopting out rescue animals. Another positive move to help all of these poor animals. The pens were the best I've seen. They are large and at this store there were 2 dogs in each. Wonderful to give them playmates. The still looked sad but it was later in the day and maybe they were tired. And, let's face it. A pen is not the same as running in a yard but again, it's the best I've seen. Maybe putting the pens in the window would helpraise awareness and give them some sunlight and more stimulation. Not sure if that would attrack people up to no good. Anyway...I was shocked with the adoption cost. Each dog was $500. I'm not questioning the "value". Every dog is priceless but my fear is that the average person in the neighborhood cannot afford this fee. I understand that Pets Plus has expenses (neutering, spaying, feeding, health care, boarding, etc) but I believe you would find homes much faster if the fee was more reasonable. I also understand that the money is to help with future adoption efforts but you need to find homes for the dogs first. I'm thrilled that the stores took this first step. Maybe you could solicit volunteers to offset some of your expenses and in turn lower the cost of the adoptions.
