There's something wonderfully romantic about the CIS Tower. Built in 1962, this iconic skyscraper…read moretowers over the landscape of Manchester. Whilst it may have been displaced from its position of being the tallest building in Greater Manchester by that cocky upstart, the Beetham Tower, it still holds a very dear place in the heart of many of the cities residents. I've always had a bit of thing for the CIS Tower. To me, it speaks of a city which no longer really exist - a monument to modernism and idealism. When I worked for the CIS during a summer break from my studies nearly ten years ago, I'd often sneak to the top floor to munch on my sandwiches whilst peeking out at the hills and vales of Derbyshire and Wales. Here, I knew exactly what my Dad was talking about when he told me that Manchester was built in a valley - which is why it always rains - and almost felt as though I could reach out and touch passing aircraft and clouds. When I left Manchester, I'd miss seeing its sleek grey mass looming out of the mist on cold grey days, knowing that my Mum worked in HR on the 16th floor and that she too was looking down over an ever changing city admiring the view. Whilst it could never hold a candle to the numerous skyscrapers of London and New York, I'd never seen anything like it anywhere else, and it was still an exotic and glamorous building to me. As I've grown up, I've travelled around many places, I've seen many huge buildings, and have even been to the top of the Empire State Building - a piece of work which could easily eat the CIS Tower for breakfast. But for me, Manchester's own pocket sized skyscraper is all I ever need, and to this day, whenever my train goes round the corner into Piccadilly station, and I see it in the corner of my right eye, I immediately feel safe and warm. Because I know it's still there, and I know I'm home.

My first choice of vets in Rochdale (and I've tried many!)…read moreMy dog Ruby broke her leg and had to have an amputation. It was very distressing for me and Ruby, but the vets there reassured me that she would be ok, and treated Ruby with lots of love! My mum's dog, Bonnie was very old and had cancer. We had to take her to the vets regularly, but we always felt much better leaving with the advice and kind words that the staff there gave us. When her time came, and we made the decision to have her put to sleep, Jonathan the vet was brilliant with us. He helped make Bonnie feel calm in her last moments and he was so kind and understanding with us. It really helped us come to terms with our loss, knowing that she died in peace and with her family with her. I always recommend this vets surgery to anyone with pets.

We got our dog Pippa about 22 months ago and wanted the best for our dog Pippa. This vet was…read morerecommended to us and I can honestly say the standard of care is exceptional. Pippa has had standard vaccinations, a routine operation and has had to be seen twice urgently. Once, when she was sick and once when she cut her paw. On both of these occasions, Pippa was seen quickly and treated accordingly. We don't have pet insurance but so far the charges haven't been unreasonable. They also sell pet food and other standard items for your pet, like Frontline or worming tablets. The receptionists are always accommodating and have offered us invaluable advice (as we were new to owning a dog). There is free parking at the rear and we are never kept waiting long/ I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this vet if you want the best care for your pet. The vet always remembers Pippa and refers to her by name, which is a nice personal touch. They are also open on a Saturday morning.
