They also sell small animals like mice, rats, hamsters, and occasionally they have guinea pigs & small birds. They also supply all the necessary equipment you need like cages, hutches, bedding and food. They tend to give quite good advice on caring for animals too. Their prices for pet food and bedding are probably higher than what you'd be able to get them for in a large Supermarket, but it's in a convenient location if you need to pick something up while you are out and about in the Town centre.

At that moment I wanted to get out as soon as possible as this guy clearly had an issue with me from the moment I entered the shop. He then said how can I help to which I replied "oh I don't need help thanks, I have found what I'm looking for" he came out from behind the counter yelling don't touch that get off! coming very close to my face (without a mask on) he then shouted at me as I touched the product I wanted to buy. "LET GO OF THAT! THIS IS MY SHOP AND PRIVATE PROPERTY! AND IF I WANT TO I CAN REFUSE SERVICE SO THAT IS WHAT I AM GOING TO DO - SO GET OUT!!! So I did... in absolute shock! Not at all pleased with AJ's. A few weeks ago I went in to buy a flea treatment for my dog and…read morethey gave me the wrong stuff, which I didn't realise until I got home. We needed the stuff asap so ended up getting it from his vet instead. We've been buying pet food from AJ's for ages, so when I went in to get another bag of food, I asked if I could exchange the flea treatment. At nearly £7 a box, I was hoping to get it back to use towards the dog food. It was in an unopened box and had AJ's price tag on it. I explained to her the situation and said how I was given the wrong stuff, but they refused to take it back without a receipt. I understand they have to protect themselves, but come on...I wasn't asking for cash, the product wasn't expired, it was obviously from their store, they gave us the wrong stuff...plus we're frickin' regulars. To add to my annoyance, when I left I was obviously struggling to hold the door open, angle a push chair through and get it down the stairs, but the woman just stood there and stared at me. I'm usually all about supporting local businesses, but in this case I'll now be shopping at Pets at Home.
