Saffron Restaurant - Kafta

I liked the food this middle eastern restaurant served, but I thought they charged more for it than it was worth. For $26, I got the Kafta, which is 3 skewers of lamb and beef mixed together served with a yogurt sauce for dipping, 3 small potatoes on a skewer and a small side salad. It cost twice what I had for lunch that day and was of similar quality and quantity. The meat skewers were good, but the potatoes were undercooked. So I guess I'd say the food is good (not great), but they charge too much.

The dinner banquet ($39/person, $45/person with dessert) was a bombardment of: - Dips with bread: Excellent beetroot, carrot and hummus. Be careful - it is tempting and all too easy to fill up on the bread. Resist! - Entree sampler: Unremarkable. - Mains: Well-season kebabs, mince meat and pork chops on the bone. We had been recommended the last item and it did not disappoint. - Salad: Unremarkable. - Dessert: Great baklava and halwa. I learned I personally like the Asian version of the floss dessert better than the Turkish one. To disclose, we had been sent here by a family member of the owner and we did end up with post-meal coffee and dessert comped, but it was icing on what was already one of the best dining experiences we had in a week in Canberra. A bit expensive unless for an occasion or with an expense account, but that happens often enough in the government seat that it's worth the trip to the suburbs.

Phoenix Cafe - GK's bête noire

See the photo of the Piazza D'Oro screen outside Phoenix Cafe?…read more I tethered GK, our JRT / Meerkat cross to this thing whilst Keeno and I waited for my chicken kebab and Keeno's orange juice. I had stopped in for a kebab earlier in the week because Tumut Golf Club couldn't feed us and I was about to drop dead from malnutrition. Great kebabs, really great kebabs and the next time I was in town I wanted another one so I could try the chilli sauce version. Proper Lebanese food in Tumut! A bloody miracle. I didn't see anyone using the hookahs in the front window but this is Tumut where the most exciting thing that happens all year is the 'Festival of the Falling Leaf' and the bi annual "Palindromic Towns" competition which Tumut always wins. Anyway GK fixed the lack of entertainment ...and how. Keeno's orange juice is finally brought out and the first thing she does is knocks it onto the ground where of course it virtually explodes in a shower of glass. GK thinks the end of the world has come and takes off. GK can really shift and, with a massive black monster following right behind her (she was towing the sign), she really stepped on the gas but as fast as she went her bête noire kept up with her. Keeno is now terrified she will run onto the road and wails a shriek of unmistakeable blind panic, and gives chase which only serves to spur GK on and bring out all the good Burghers of Tumut, and some of lesser value. So one of the spectators goes to stop GK from her attempt on the dog land speed record and so she runs between two parked cars which has the effect on the sign that a water skier experiences when the boat turns. Its called a whip, and now the sign is traveliing at warp speed straight for our own car. Someone, I didn't see who because I was reluctant to abandon my kebab, stopped her finally and Keeno was literally given an ovation by the townfolk of Tumut. One wiseacre told me that for $50 he would stay schtum about the ding on the car. I had to tell him it was mine. No, he didn't think that was funny...at all...much. Great kebabs, I'd steer clear of the orange juice though.

Zeus Street Greek Canberra City - Keto Bowl with chicken

I chose chicken for my protein and it came atop a cold cauliflower rice salad and purple coleslaw. There were pepitas, butternut squash pieces, olives, and tomatoes amidst the riced cauliflower. It was delightful! We ordered some zucchini fries which were wonderful! We had to pay a little extra to get a dipping sauce, but the garlic aioli was worth it. My husband ordered a chicken Spartan bowl with Greek salad and pita bread. We both left very satisfied with our meals. I needed a take away box for leftovers and they were happy to accommodate that. We noticed they had many take outs while we were there eating our meals.

Have been to one off yeeros places in my area in Sydney and the yeeros or food at that matter comes nothing close to zeus :). Was myself and 2 very good Greek mates that know good Greek food, nothing beats home cooked food everybody knows that by know haha.. but the food here was way above decent definitely:)!! We ordered the trio dip with pita, haloumi chips and yiayias chips for starters :), the haloumi chips barely made the photo haha they were gone in less than a minute, drizzled lemon over it and is best to eat quickly before it has a chance to get too chewy :D. The trio dip was definitely nice, had taramasalata, tzatziki and the highlight was the eggplant dip :p, that was demolished first and then we cleaned up the other 2. Feta on potato chips or on anything warm is always a good idea, the only thing i could suggest to improve is that these days when you hear cheezy its oozy, if they mixed it with olive lets say and made the fetta oozzy we would of ordered a bowl each :D :D!!! For mains me and my mate ordered pork neck Tzimmy Yeeros and my other mate had the lamb :). Pork neck was super soft, tender and mouth watering tasty, my other mate really enjoyed his lamb aswell :). One thing on our minds when we were devouring the yeeros down was how soft and flufffy the pita was and the soft chips inside was perfection :) :). We had Bougatsa and loukamades for dessert .. so full though so we ordered 1 of each to share. The Bougatsa was epically tasty as per usual, well at least for the places that have eically tasty ones ;). The whole reason we ate here was because the night before that we ate here we walked past Zeus and the photo of the loukamades in the front window made our mouths water even on a full stomach haha.. we asked for the loukamades with just the honey, the loukamades was nothing overly tasty but having a good Bougatsa made the night :)!! Seen plenty of Zeus street back in Sydney so this definitely gave me the confidence to go ther for lunch or dinner and know I'm going to walk out with a happy belly :D!!

It always makes great leftovers and keeps pretty well, demonstrating the good quality of the steak. The staff are always nice and pleasant. Ironically, no matter how many times we come back, we somehow get given the same table. I wonder if they track previous bookings under the same name and contact details or if this is a weird coincidence? It's good to know we are "window" worthy. My spouse looks like a sexy basketball player, but is also annoying, so I can understand why we get sat next to the corner window (joke). I know other reviewers have said this is a place for carnivores; but I've also booked a work event here once where someone was a vegan, and they were happy to accomodate and the vegan loved their alternate options. Their menu might be limited in dietary requirements, but you can just ask and they do something up. All my reviews are standardised to the following star ratings: 1.
