Skirt steak with peppercorn sauce. Enough to be my only reason to ever visit the rooftop restaurant
Tony S.

Petit Ermitage is interestingly confusing, like that high school hottie with the great body and face, but with bad breath, and bass-ackwards taste in shoes. You still show up with her to the school dance, but only you know the truth about the cat food stench from her mouth that stunk up your car cuz she simply wouldn't stop talking.... and each uttered word just made it worse and worse..... But she's hot, and you get the clout and cred. So what do I like about this place? Probably my favorite boutique hotel in La for the right reasons. I love the secluded feel once you drive up. It's not a busy street, so there's that nice private feel of not being caught walking your secret love through the front entrance. The reception desk keeps a jar of cookies you can take. LOVE this touch. The rooftop pool/garden/restaurant ranks among my top 3 places in LA if you're after a fun, hip, tasty evening., It captures the perfect hidden oasis vibe without the annoying elitism that has long plagued WeHo and BH. That means you don't get a crowd of 300 over-the-top lost souls. You get just a few, but you also come across the intellectuals and ACTUAL entrepreneurs that make the evening almost feel NYC. The food is pretty good, but if you're going to try anything, you MUST have either the skirt steak (side dish) or steak entree with peppercorn sauce. I've cooked and dined on peppercorn sauce around the world for 2 decades. This is one of the best I've ever had, and ties for first place with my favorite place across the world in Hong Kong. Yes, sometimes I come here just for the steak. It's that good. And your fries? Dipped in that sauce? It's like a food porn threesome that seems forbidden, but oh so complete. If you're lucky enough to score the table by the fireplace, that's my jam, and I've met some of the most interesting people in the past few years..... and unexpectedly scored a few dates. So what's the problem? The cat breath? Just a couple things: the bathrooms are tiny. Interestingly designed, but tiny. If you have a party going on the roof, and people start drinking, the lines get long, and heaven forbid someone gets sick and upchucks on the floor (happened several times), your leather bottom shoes are EFFED! The hotel rooms themselves do have character, and are quite spacious, but I think need some major overhaul. They feel dated, so I rarely recommend them to friends if they want a luxury room, especially given their prices. Like I said, it's still my "hot girl" so I will continue to come here.

The condition of the carpets in this hotel are nasty

The location? Absolutely perfect - you could toss a croissant and hit half of West Hollywood. - Now, the hotel? Let's just say it's aged like milk. Rooms felt like a time capsule, carpets had more stories than the building, and the smell was vintage in the worst way. The online photos must be from a time before smartphones, because they sure weren't from today. Parking's a bargain if you enjoy handing over $65 a night for a smile from the valet. And those resort fees? Let's call them "surprise extras" with no surprise. The smoking policy is a dream... for a chimney. It's allowed everywhere from the entrance to the pool, so breathe deep and enjoy that ashtray ambiance. Staff was a mixed bag - some were great, others had the energy of a sloth on a break. I even saw room service rolling out food on a cart with trash below - a bold choice for a hotel. If you're after pure location, this is your spot. If you want anything else, maybe bring a time machine or your own cleaning supplies.

TLDR; A unique hotel with historic feels and beautiful views- slightly higher priced than what it should be but the views and service and food are blended for a comfortable stay and dining experience. Stayed here for a night out in WeHo as well as dined at the rooftop bar/lounge. The hotel is on the older side but has a nice quaint bohemian feel. An updated gym was a nice touch, but you must make a reservation to use it. The service from the staff was friendly and overall very good. The rooftop views and pool is amazing, a must see. The cocktails and food is slightly over priced for what you get- the food was good but the drinks are slightly above average. Price point wise the hotel is a touch expensive especially with the added fees like parking and resort- those should be looked at and refigured for a more cohesive experience.

Exclusive hotel in West Hollywood, I heard you have to be a member to get into the pool and even to get rooms sometimes. We had some friends djing there one night and we got a room and enjoyed the pool, we happened to be there on a Saturday and it was super packed at the pool and they required a reservation for day beds and it was busy. We got the smashburger twice, so good! And the drinks are pretty good and pricey too. But convenient if you're staying at the hotel and the night party in the wiggle room and music was great! They also set up the pool area for night time too. I got the avocado toast for breakfast and some people got bone broth and charcuterie too, enjoyed the meal and the pool area!

Had a wonderful brunch experience with a couple friend. Drinks were good as were all our breakfast items. The outdoor roof space is really lovely! They do not rush you so you can take your time which is nice. Everyone had a good time and enjoyed their meal! Nice to have a restaurant available where you are also staying at a hotel.

Beautiful space, but parking was a nightmare. Uber prices were insane (and I live close in Hancock Park), street parking for blocks was permit-only, and the closest meters on Santa Monica ran until midnight, so I was basically forced to valet When I first pulled in, there was a line of cars and no valet staff in sight, even though I'd just seen about five guys standing around while circling earlier. Later, when I came back for my car, no one was at the stand again. I was charged $30 instead of $18 even though I texted for my car right at the 3-hour mark (the $18 cutoff) and had timestamps to prove drop-off and pick-up times. The manager fixed the overcharge, but the valet was defensive and even threatened to tow my friend and call the cops while she waited, when the lot was completely empty. It felt unnecessarily hostile for such a slow night. On top of that, 3 hours of parking is way too tight for an almost 1-hour performance plus a 1.5-hour movie with Q&A Inside, seating for the screening wasn't great. The large booths only worked if strangers shared them, and some late guests dragged over extra chairs to the row ends, which blocked the view for anyone behind The shows themselves were good, but between the poor seating and one of the worst parking experiences I've had (and I'm an LA native, so I know parking headaches), it left a bad taste

What is the parking situation for people attending ticketed events?

$18 valet for first 3 hours + $10 for each additional hour i think

Do you offer any booking discounts? I have noticed some other local hotels offering discounts for healthcare providers or for AAA members, for example.

If we book an overnight stay on saturday and check in isn't until 4 PM, are we unable to enjoy the hotel/pool/bar during the day prior to check in? Similarly, are we able to remain at the hotel after check out? For example, to catch the Sun PM movie?

Is topless allowed poolside?

I don't know if it is officially allowed, but it seems to be fairly common during my stays.

Can you arrive to this hotel for drinks or dinner as a none staying guest or is it for hotel room users only?

I emailed them a question about non-guest access and their reply was: "We are a private hotel, therefore only hotel guests can use our facilities. We are happy to help you with a room reservation."

Are children allowed to stay here , also enjoy the pool?

Kids are allowed only in the mornings. It's a very adult environment.

Is your pool open to people who wish to dine poolside (non-hotel guests)?

No sadly not

My friends did not disappoint recommending Short Stories Hotel. My room was a Standard Queen with a small sitting area. The room was nicely sized, with a small bar, safe and refrigerator. A couple of things: some rooms will probably be noisier than others depending on the location. My room was on the 2nd floor and faced the pool area. The back side of the hotel faces apartment homes and that can be a little noisy if they are having a get together outside. Also, the room did not come with an iron or ironing board (this is a need for me), however the front desk will bring one to your room if you request it. This is a smaller property, with a lobby bar that also serves food. There is a great outdoor seating/courtyard area where guests can enjoy some quiet time reading, or at times having a drink and socializing - they also offer free coffee and tea each morning. The pool area is smaller than most hotels, but it fits well with the rest of the decor. The front desk had someone there 24/7 and they were great as far as offering suggestions on places to eat, how far some things were, etc. I felt pretty safe staying in this hotel and had no problems coming back from a night out, or getting an uber quickly. They also offer valet parking if you have a car. This property sits on Fairfax directly across the street from The Farmer's Market and the Grove shopping center. It is walking distance to shopping, restaurants, museums, and a short Uber to the La Brea Tar Pits and Melrose area shopping. If you get a chance, head to the Fairfax open Marketplace which is about a mile away from the hotel. Open each Sunday, is has many local vendors selling everything from clothes, candles, music, home decor items, etc. This hotel was a little over $300 per night, but the location made it worth every penny. I walked most places and had a short Uber ride to other areas. When I come back to Los Angeles, I will stay there again - I thoroughly enjoyed my time at this property.

So I called the front desk to ask for new bath towels, waited for an hour.. didn't come. Called again waited another 30 mins, still never come. On the check out day, one of the staff was banging the door when I was in the shower. Which was ridiculous because I talked to the front desk the night before that I am going to have late check out. I was rushing to wear my clothes to answer the door, and realised he already opened my room door. Which means, luckily i was dressed.. if not, he would see me naked. And I feel this is super disrespectful! Why would u open someone's door without permission? Then the whole conversation he was so rude, with an attitude, said I didn't have late check out, late check out is not guarantee and only gave me 10 mins to leave the room and will have penalty. I was shocked. At the end when I check out. I was asking for the staff's name who is kicking people out. And the front desk was trying to cover up for him and said they don't know who that is. I am like.. Come on, how could you not know your coworker's name? So they finally gave me a name " Johnathan" which I don't know if they made it up or not. We ordered some food delivered to the hotel and they wouldn't let us bring "outside food" to enjoy on the rooftop. LOL. Mind you, we also tried to enjoy a snack and drink on the rooftop earlier in the week and they were having a private party, so that foiled our plans as well. Another time at the roof, they were closed even though they were supposed to be open in the morning. Absolute shambles and unacceptable. This hotel also has very little general seating / lounge areas. It is basically nonexistent, unless you consider a few seats outside by the parking lot next to La Cienega traffic whizzing by at 200 decibels every second "lounge area." Let's talk about the gym Peloton bikes that are falling apart (safety hazard, btw), Tonal machines that NOBODY wants to use, etc. and a tiny free weight section where only one person can realistically work out at any given time. Literally, one of the worst hotel gyms I've ever seen anywhere. Completely NOT functional. Okay, now let's talk about the parking. $75/night just to park your car. The room itself was excellent, but the overall experience was severely damaged by a serious valet incident. On my last day, I handed my luggage to valet staff before breakfast and also gave them my car key to retrieve my vehicle, as valet parking was the only option at $75 per day. After breakfast, I drove off and later realized my luggage was not in the trunk. I immediately returned to the hotel and found that my luggage had been mistakenly placed in another guest's vehicle. The lobby manager initially reviewed security footage and attempted to contact the driver, but communication quickly became slow and inconsistent over the following weeks. I later followed up in person again, but progress remained unclear and delayed. More than three weeks passed without resolution, and it appeared that contact with the driver had been lost. We then had to escalate the issue to Hyatt headquarters before the claims process finally moved forward. The entire process, from late February to the end of April, was extremely slow. What was most disappointing was not just the initial mistake, but the lack of urgency, poor coordination, and unclear communication throughout the recovery and claims process. I understand errors can happen, but I paid for valet service and expected proper responsibility and follow-through. My luggage contained luxury clothing, cosmetics, medication, and essentials for relocation. The handling of this situation significantly worsened an already stressful incident. I hope Hyatt takes this feedback seriously and improves its valet accountability and crisis response process.

Created an account via their website and booked a 1 night stay in the City King suite. $417 after taxes and including valet = $617. (Sat/Sun) LOVED their eco friendly vibe and thoughtfulness in the design of the property. Even down to the glass cups for complimentary water. Our room keys were wooden chips, the flooring material in the elevators were soft and cushion-y (so unique), real plants placed throughout the property- even in your room, free rides via their Audi vehicles (3 mile radius) and so much more. Upon arrival we were quickly checked in. Probably took no more than 10 mins. Valet was $75. Pets however stay for free! (So awesome) We ended up on the 10th floor and found a bottle of prosecco in the room to start the celebrations. The room was super clean, eco-friendly and the view was beautiful. Bedding was comfy and so was the additional couch in the room. Amenities were bomb and fridge options were too good! (Good brands) The lounge at check in was such a vibe with dim lighting. Sat there a few times (evening and morning) to just relax and enough the ambiance. Hotel was super lively with guests and community. There was a dj one evening and they seem to have a lot of wellness activities and offers which was nice to see. There's a breakfast spot right next to checkin (we didn't try) and a complimentary fresh fruit stand in the mornings. The architecture of the property is so beautiful and you can tell they really care for it (and the plants!) The grand stairs were my favorite be sure to take some pics in the evening - the glow is to good. Will definitely be back. I'm a fan!

Is this the "best" Best Western? Well, it might be. But it is still a Best Western…read more The location, smack dab in the middle of the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, is incredible which is why you are not paying typical Best Western prices. It is situated literally next to the Sunset Tower Hotel which is a celebrity hotspot and extremely expensive. The Andaz Hotel is across the street and Saddle Ranch and the famous Comedy Store are maybe a one or two minute walk away. The room was very nice and the bathroom was good-sized. The shower was also excellent (except the body wash in the wall dispenser was empty--hey, it's a Best Western, did you expect perfection?). There is a free continental breakfast and it is fine. The pool is good-sized but there were no towels available when we arrived. Again...this ain't the Beverly Hills Hotel. The self-parking garage is on the other side of the property and is connected to the hotel. Be aware: some rooms, like ours, overlooked Sunset Boulevard. Sunset Boulevard is extremely loud, especially at night. If that may disturb you, ask for a room facing the other way. Unfortunately, the worst thing going for this hotel is the clientele. Yes, this is a budget hotel chain but the prices you pay at this particular spot are far higher solely because of its location. Sadly, some of the guests were incredibly noisy and rude and apparently, smoking at the pool is perfectly acceptable. I could give other unfortunate examples. So this pricier budget hotel still attracts a very budget crowd. Would I stay here again? If I wanted to be in this location without paying $500 or more a night, yes.

This was my fourth stay at Best Western Plus Sunset Plaza Hotel, and it just keeps getting better…read more The hotel was recently remodeled, and the transformation is beautiful. The rooms feel modern, fresh, and incredibly clean, with a cozy boutique vibe that you wouldn't normally associate with a Best Western. In fact, when you think of "Best Western," this is definitely not what comes to mind -- it feels more like a charming, stylish boutique hotel tucked right into the heart of West Hollywood. I stayed on the third floor with easy access to the backyard pool area, and it was such a relaxing setup. The little patio and pool space are absolutely beautiful -- peaceful, well-kept, and perfect for unwinding. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, making the whole stay feel warm and inviting. They also offer breakfast, which is such a great bonus, and the manager is truly amazing -- welcoming, attentive, and genuinely caring about guests' experiences. Even though there are much fancier hotels nearby, I would choose this one again in a heartbeat. It feels personal, cozy, and special. I'll absolutely be coming back over and over again.
