Late night haircut at 8 pm , greeted by the barbers as if I was a regular. Not my first time there but it had been a good 20 years since my last haircut there with Lefty . second time here. First was decent. Came again and used the same lady. Veryyyyyy sub par. Told her clear what I wanted (IM NOT A DIFFICULT HAIR GUY JUST WANT A CLEAN CUT) and she messed up bad. Then tries to convince me it's good (it has very choppy lines and took wayyyyy too much off top. As she's trying to convince me that is good she tries to ask if I want it shorter......... SHE ALREADY TOOK TOO MUCH OFF, any shorter and it'd be a crew cut which I'm sure would look worse woth her skills. Not sure if she's licensed but I will definitely be calling the state. I'm sure some others there are good but def avoid the women there. Very dissatisfied and I paid and left. I was excited to try out Petes because of the great reviews and because they have been around for such a long time. I assumed that this meant i would be receiving a great cut, boy was i wrong. I don't like to bad mouth a business but this was by far the worst haircut i've ever received. I'm including the time i got in trouble in 5th grade and my dad decided to give me a "custom haircut" the day before picture day. I was literally in the chair for less than 8 minutes (love that iPhone puts a time stamp on text messages) i'm not going to put the barber out there but he really needs to up his game. I asked for a 3 on top and skin fade on the bottom, I was told that the lowest his clippers went was a 1 but he would try make it work. I'll let you decide on the final outcome. See the attached pictures in this post. The fade line is crooked, the hair is uneven in length it was just horrendous. This is a review thats long overdue. I walked out of the shop and went to another local barber to attempt the fix (review coming later) and they didn't do a much better job. What a bad day lol. Pros: 1. Friendly atmosphere and staff 2. Has a nice old school feeling to it 3. Received fast service as a walk in 4. Kid friendly Cons: 1. Easily the worst haircut i've ever received. 2. My haircuts are pretty simple. There's no need for a fancy salon to get a buzz cut (or "pelao de malanga" in Spanish). I was in the Old Cutler area today getting my smoothie fix at Wayside and decided to get my hair cut in the same general area. Am I glad I did! I "found" Pete's online, and I mean it when I put found in quotes. It is truly a hidden gem, as it is tucked away into a corner of the shopping center catty-corner to the Starbucks. (A far cry from my conversation with my barber, Charlie, who said that back in the days they had a neon sign that could be seen at all hours from US1.) The inside is like a step back in time when the area was called Suniland. They have about 10 - 12 barber chairs, and I'm guessing the manicure station is a recent add-on. The shop further keeps its small town feel with the kiddie play area in the center as well as the political chatter with the barbers. It appears to be cash only, with your cut rang up on a classic cash register. They also have an old style wall telephone. Haircuts are now 15 dollars, but its great to support a local business. Yes, this is a men's barber shop. But my daughter, when she comes of age, will have her first haircut here. It is the same place her father had his first haircut, 30 some years ago. It is simply an institution in the Sunniland neighborhood. And it looks it too. It looks clasic. It's nice to know that some things never change. First time in I got Niles, got a good haircut (3 on sides, scissors on top). I came back a few weeks later, got a different guy and a decent cut. I went back again last week, got a guy who apparently doesn't speak English and a cut I almost had to shave (because he cut it so short on top). Each time I asked for the same thing and already had the general shape there for guidance. For $17 at a no frills place I'd expect it to be better. I'd rather have my hair washed at a salon if I'm going to be risking bad cuts and paying $20 anyways. read more

Great job by Terry at Pete's Barber shop. With the recent closures of Hair cuttery, I had no place to go for a haircut. Luckily I found Pete's. Went in for a hot towel shave for my face and head. Had the pleasure of having Armando provide the service. It is a great barbershop. Very traditional and not your modern day barbershop with game consoles and the like. Great atmosphere & great conversations. It's really just an plain old fashion barber shop. $12 for a haircut, and I'm not sure about the other services the offer. I've been going to Pete's Barber Shop since the 80s as a young teen. Pete's is the best barber shop in town, me and my brother always go in there and get our buzz cuts and crew cuts from Charlie and he does an outstanding clean job he always takes his times and goes over all the details and make sure everything is done perfectly right. Also instead of just shaving the back of my neck he takes an actual blade to it instead of taking the easy way out and using an electric razor. This is an absolutely fantastic barber shop. I live in Boston now but am from Miami, and the best haircut I've gotten in either city comes from here. I have reasonably long hair, so it takes a really good barber to know how to cut it such that it falls well and looks good. Every single time I come here, they manage to pull that off. The service is good, the vibe is as awesome & old-school as everyone else has mentioned, top notch. I've been there before, but my experience today (Christmas Eve 2013) made me want to leave a review. I showed up at 5 PM, and as I walked towards the door three barbers were walking out. I asked them if they were closing -- they shrugged and said that they were. I looked inside and it was clear they had just finished their holiday party. Cookies were on the table, a bowl of punch was set up, and there was a cooler full of beer and soda. They were closing up, and I asked the only woman still cutting hair if she could give me one last cut before she left. She paused, thought for a second, and said she'd love to. While I'd have been ecstatic if she'd just given me the haircut after closing and sent me on my way, she was good conversation, offered me punch (and refilled my cup when it was empty!), and cut my hair like a ninja -- the way she identified the precise piece of hair that needed to be cut for it to fall right was kind of stunning. I tipped well, and it was a great experience. The punch was also pretty good. If you need a haircut in Miami, you do yourself a disservice not to get it here! read more
