One of the many highlights of this office is getting timely attention to medical intervention with Dr. Lane or Pablo Rojas. Yvonne is the cheerful, friendly, caring voice you hear when you call. She goes to great lengths to get you in or to offer an option to seek care....she is wonderful. We would give this office a 100 star rating if possible and are so very thankful for all their care!

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Santa Ynez Cottage Hospital…read more Before going to the hospital, I specifically called and asked whether my insurance was accepted and whether I would have to pay anything out of pocket. I was clearly told that my insurance would cover the visit. I actually made my decision to go there based on that information, because another facility had told me that I would have to pay out of pocket. When I arrived, I asked again at check-in whether my insurance covered the visit, and I was again told that it did. Before leaving, I also specifically confirmed this once more. At no point was I informed that, despite the insurance being accepted, I could still receive a very large additional bill. Today I received a bill for $1,333. When I contacted customer service, I was told that the total charge for the visit was around $2,000. This was a very basic visit for a sore throat. I had a throat swab and a COVID test, and did not receive any significant treatment or procedure. I understand that medical care in the U.S. can be expensive, and I understand that insurance does not necessarily mean everything is free. However, there is a huge difference between being told multiple times that your insurance covers the visit and being properly informed that you may still be responsible for $1,333. As someone who is relatively new to the U.S. healthcare system, I relied on the information your staff gave me. If I had been told beforehand that I could receive a bill of this size, I would have made a completely different decision about where to seek care. A $1,333 bill for a visit that essentially consisted of someone examining my throat, performing a throat swab, and doing a COVID test is an outrageous amount of money. It is simply not a reasonable or realistic cost for many people to afford, especially when patients are already dealing with the high cost of healthcare. The price is extremely difficult to justify for the services I received, and the fact that I was not informed beforehand that I could be responsible for such a large amount makes this experience even more frustrating. I sincerely hope the hospital reviews how financial responsibility is communicated to patients, because people deserve to know what they may actually be charged before agreeing to receive care.

My new insurance (CenCal Health-a branch of MediCal) recommended this clinic since it's fairly close to my home. I was unsure since I am not a member of the local tribe, but the insurance folks promised me that SY Tribal Health Clinic serves both tribal members and community members outside of the tribe. My intake visit today was very smooth. I arrived a few minutes early, filled out paperwork, and was taken to the exam room within ten minutes--even before I'd finished all my paperwork. The nurse was friendly and efficient. The doctor (Dr. Brewer) immediately started asking me questions about my past medical history and listened even to my tangentially related answers with a smile. She was thorough and personable, which is a hard combination to find with doctors these days who often seem too rushed to offer much of a bedside manner. I got blood work done painlessly just down the hallway from the exam room, and then I was on my way. I am very glad my insurance recommended SY Tribal Heath Clinic, and I am impressed with the level of care there.
