Good coffee, nice service, and good sandwiches. It is located in what I call the stroller triangle so at times it can be full of mothers and their babies. For the most part it is a great place to go and share a coffee with friends or sit with a computer and work on your facebook page. That last part was a joke but it seems to be what everyone is doing while they are on their computers. I guess that is just Denmark. In all seriousness it is nice little cafe with good coffee. That is all it really needs to be for me to like it but, the atmosphere is nice and the sandwiches are good. I am a huge fan of the bread. I am usually a supporter of places that a little dirtier and not a franchise but this place has been good to me...

One takes the orders. The other serves the food -- and may be the cook as well. The Yelp description says Danish, Scandinavian and European food. That's only true because Denmark is located in Scandinavia and thereby Europe. This is Danish food. Pure and simple. And these are the smørrebrød regulars that are served at virtually every home in DK for Sunday lunch. And served with beer and snaps. The order taker is the rule maker and enforcer. When a guy who was seated at a sidewalk table came in to give his order, she sent him back to the table. And she told some foreigners at an adjacent table that they really didn't want Danish liver pâté. The other woman was the earth mother who stopped at each table to chat as she served the meals. How the too get along I do not know. But it was a lovely meal. My wife has smoked eel and scrambled eggs. I had grilled plaice with tiny, lovely shrimp on top. With beer of course. No snaps for us. First time it was a really good and relaxed experience which I prefer. The second time I went here it was crowded and noisy with many families and children lying about on the floor since the queue for the cash register is very close to the tables. The acoustics in here doesn't help and it becomes it is hard to have a conversation when it is this busy. This is probably more a lunch place than dinner, so in a way I feel I'm doing it an injustice…read morereviewing their dinner menu. But nevertheless, here it goes: Ulrik and I were out strolling about when he said he really wanted a roast pork sandwich - and the first place popping into mind was Meyer's! Way to go sealing that trade mark :-) Anyway, we were close to the Gammel Kongevej branch and although this is one of the least cosy ones, they still serve a mean pork roast sandwich, so what the heck - we gave it a go. We came in and the place was as noisy and soulless as ever, but we had our eyes fixed on the prize. After ordering drinks, the first thing that went wrong was discovering that the roast pork sandwich is only a lunch menu option - seriously, guys: this is why customers come from near and far - make it an all-day-offer! Anyway, slightly disappointed Ulrik chose the second best, a good old Danish favourite, roast pork with parsley sauce and new Danish potatoes, while I convinced the waiter to serve me two portions of the kids plate, the filet of plaice with rye bread and remoulade, to make up a grownup size (how many kids actually eat this anyway?). To finish it off with something, we ordered one of the caramelized pretzels to go. Verdict: The roast pork was great, crispy, full of flavour and just beautiful; the plaice was slightly less good, a bit wobbly rather than crisp and lacked a bit of taste but still quite decent; and the pretzel was quite the disappointment, tasting old, rubbery and crisp and all together really odd so that went in the trash. The service was spot on, great guy - you just want to hug him. So why only the 3 stars? - I really don't like the place. It's such a crying out shame that you feel you're sitting on the main track at the train station trying to talk through the din and noise. I really don't care for that so I'll guess it's going to be a while before I return. Tip: Roast pork sandwich! Roast pork sandwich! Roast pork sandwich!

We stopped here for dinner last night after walking around Freetown and wanting something warm and filling because the weather was in and out with a light drizzle. We ordered the chicken congee (plus hoison chicken) and a mushroom barley risotto along with their Snickers waffle for dessert because why not. Even though we were virtually the only people in the cafe, the food took a pretty long time to come out. Both of the savory dishes were incredible. The congee was so saltily wonderful and we loved all the toppings (except the excessive amount of peanuts). The dish was rich, but all the veggies cut through everything--so good. The ristotto was equally impressive because the mushroom flavor really popped in the broth they used, and the rest of the accouterments of cheese, sautéed mushrooms, etc, on top really sung. A winner. As for the waffle, what's not to like? A solid preparation with chocolate and peanut sauces drenched on top. No complaints. We thought the total tab was a bit high for what we got, but this is Denmark, so we're getting used to the elevated pricing. We wouldn't say that Grod is worth going out of the way for, but it's a very fine meal if the craving strikes and you happen to be in the area. Four stars, and not a bad start to our trip.
