This review is for the store not the grooming department. Stopped by Petco while on vacation to pick up some treats and a retractable leash for our pup. The store was very clean and not at all crowded. At checkout, we had an issue where the registers all shut down and were not restarting. Thankfully, the manager let me pay with cash so we could be on our way. Hopefully they got that situation resolved! read more

My husband walked in today to take our Shih Tzu mix dog, and he saw Groomer abusing a dog. She was frustrated because the dog was in frustrated because the dog would not sit still. She was pushing on the small dog and being extremely rough with the dog and this happened today. My husband walked away with the dog and would never go back again. read more

minutes ago New Petco always did a nice job grooming our dogs although I found them to be overpriced. Now that my dog is older and gets confused they no longer wish to groom her. I told them over the phone because I wanted them to know hoping they would be extra patient with her. Instead they told me they wouldn't be able to groom her. We were so pleased with our experience here! I called twice, and spoke to Christina, the assistant manager, and Bobby, the GM. Both of them were so kind, helpful and knowledgeable when I called looking for information on a reptile purchase. Once we got to the store, Stanley helped us get all the things we needed. If I could give zero stars I would. My daughter brought her sweet Shih Tzu puppy here for grooming and after 3 hours time received a call that there was an "incident" and to meet them at the Vet Emergency. We were devastated to find out that a 2 centimeter piece of her already tiny tongue had been sliced! As if that was not bad enough, the manager arrived at the ER with Chichi kenneled in the TRUNK of a very small car! I'm sure she was terrified! Hurt and bleeding, caged in the dark trunk of a car with no ventilation! No apology or real explanation. Basically blamed the dog for "licking too much". My daughter was not held responsible to pay for the incomplete grooming or the vet bill but other than the bill Petco was not at all accountable! They should never be trusted with anyone's pets! Absolutely despicable!! Now sweet Chichi has to stay medicated and is on 4 different medications to prevent an infection. Shame on Petco! read more

Two vet visits and $600 later, our dog is still scratching and pulling her hair out. Nightmare. Never again.

My standard poodle had not had a professional groom in almost 8 months. Her mommy grooms were notoriously horrendous. I cannot do poodle feet, so she was unable to run on our tile floor without sliding. Poodle hair grows down between the toe pads. It is like four mini-mops on the bottom of her feet Appointment was made with Sammie. She was professional and set my mind at ease. I paid for the VIP treatment so Ellie would be her only dog being groomed, start to finish. VIP includes manual hair drying rather than being under the dryer. She was badly in need of a groom. Her top hat looked like Moe from The Three Stooges and her leg cuffs were too low. Her ears were overgrown inside and her nails were long. Sammie had to re-set her cut lines. She pulled the ear hair, cut the toenails, and did a wonderful job with the Miami Clip including shaved poodle feet. She texted me a pic after the bath. She texted me again when the groom was almost complete. This groom took about 3 1/2 hours due to all she had to fix. Next time will not take as long. I am thoroughly happy and impressed. read more

Omg Sassy is a cane corso/pitbull mixed so she is large for a puppy. This was her first time getting groomed and when I tell you SAMMIE was so awesome with her. Great customer service, communication was on point and very clear, she saved me a lot of money. Sammie is my go to groomer forever. Sassy loves her!!! Thank you Petco for helping me with a few emergency supplies for a very small kitty cat that hitched a ride under my car from my work for what might be called the ride of his life on the interstate then to the chik-fil-a drive thru. That is when the order girl said "do you have a dog in your car" I said..No...and then heard the Meow....OMG....their is a kitty somewhere under my car. Long store short, a kind young man was able to shimmy under my car and pull out and adorable ginger kitty from my back wheel well. The kitty was dirty, skinny, frightened, but no to wild, so he rode the rest of the way home with me holding him and petting him. I got him swiftly situated on a blanket in a carrier, and promptly went to Petco for so kitty shampoo, kitty food, and of course some where for kitty to potty. The Petco employees were so helpful in advising me what to do since the kitten was very young and my plans were to get him adopted. I came home with the supplies and slowly fed my travelling friend. Wow was this little guy starving. I was worried he might eat and get sick but he was just fine. Next it was bath time. He was not real happy about the bath situation but he was seriously dirty. I bathed the guy three times and one ear still had some grease I could not get off. Peroxide and gauze and inside ear cleaning and those ears were super clean and he was ready for towel dry. Once he was dry he was a different kitty. He had a totally transformation. We took him to the Nassau County Humane Center for adoption and they estimate that he is 6 weeks old. Everyone was just loving him. I hope he finds a loving family. Thank you Petco for all your help in giving him a good start. read more

Sammy at the Yulee store is truly a godsend! We have been taking our 2 dogs - Australian cattle dog and Australian shepherd to her for over a year. She has worked so hard to get our cattle dog's trust and build his confidence! No one, not even me, can do this dog's toenail! it took 4 people at the vet just to cut them and she uses a grinder. I forget how white the Aussie's coat is until I pick her up. Our dogs love her and that means so much to us! I highly recommend their services. read more

This is the dirtiest Petco I have ever been in. We came in for our first visit to buy dog food. My kids love animals so we always hang out with them before we checkout. The poor rats had dried, smeared poop all in their cages and on their toys. The brackets holding the water bottles on for the rats, hamsters and guinea pigs were dirty and rusted. All the cages looked like they needed to be empty and scrubbed. The whole store looks like it has years of dust, dirt and grime on the shelves, floor, and between and under the shelves. We couldn't look at the parrots at all because they were blocked by a pallet of products that needed to be put away but looked as if they had been there for awhile. We tried to visit the adoptable cats but it appeared they didn't want anyone to visit them because they had a cart full of dog plushies blocking the whole area and folding chairs blocking the sides. We pushed the cart out of the way and spent some time with the cats and kittens. Their cages made us want to cry. Out of the 5 cats there only 1 had food. Their cages were old and rusted and all were filthy. The two black kittens had obviously spilled their water and gotten it mixed with cat litter and it was a gross pastey mess everywhere (it appeared that the mess had been there for quite some time). All the litter boxes barely had litter and were full of poop and all the water bowls were almost bare and very dirty. It was very sad. We couldn't spend too much time over there because the smell of poop was very strong. The one positive was the lady who checked us out was very friendly and chatted with my girls. Next time I'm taking pictures of how dirty it all was. I feel very bad for all the animals in this store. read more

Waiting in my hot car 30 mins cuz the text said we will call you when it's your turn . Have an appointment. I gave up .. walked inside and there was a dog line of 6 deep. After asking what to do I have been waiting outside .. I got "Sorry" . Brought my dogs records, as instructed to.. no one even asked for them or cared . They were just taking my word that my dog needed a shot. The only good thing is that the staff were very friendly super sweet. They set up a table in the bird section of Petco and when I looked at the receipt it said I told them my dog was healthy eating properly no problems which they didn't even ask me any of that. Just be careful if you don't want your pet to go to a makeshift kiosk on the corner of sketchy and questionable.. just saying . Of course I will never be back. read more

If you're looking for the higher end food for your dog or cat, you're sure to find it here. I noticed while looking through the cat food that none of the cheaper brands were sold in this store at all. That's fine with me because my cat has a sensitive stomach and she can't eat the cheaper brands like you'll find at Walmart and Target. I thought it was interesting to find that they have jugs you can buy and fill up with cat litter. They have this whole bin of cat litter with a funnel. It seems reasonable priced, but I can't say how well it works. I think it's Petco's own brand. I'm perfectly happy with the cat litter we've been using, and it works so well that I don't dare to switch to anything else. So if there's anyone reading this who happens to use Petco's litter, do me a favor and shoot me a message and let me know how well it works. =) They have plenty of little critters to look at (and purchase) like mice, gerbils, ferrets, birds, etc. The mice were wide awake while we were there and put on quite a little show for us and gave us a few laughs. Good selection of toys, treats, etc. for your pets. The employees are top-notch. We were asked several times if we needed assistance and the employees we came into contact with were quite knowledgeable. read more

Every time we go in, there are more employees than customers yet it's a chore to get assistance. Went in to get feeder fish and walked past a group of employees all having a friendly pow wow of personal business. Kept waiting for their session to end to get assistance with getting fish. Stood waiting for 10 minutes. Guess customers are either expected to help themselves or go somewhere else. We left with no feeder fish and unhappy customers. read more

I won't be back. They didn't cut my dog's fur like I asked. It's uneven. One leg is cut shorter than the other...The shampoo and brush out was great. The cut is not. Then they talked me into the rewards program.. I guess their is an incintive for them. Something that I don't need! Cancelled that! I was told it would be 60.00 when I called, and told them what my dog needed. When I got there the bill was almost 100. They did special grooming without my permission and added that on. This is the worst store I've been to in a long time. Staff are sullen, careless and miserable. Shelves are not stocked despite plenty of staff available to work. Their inventory sits on shrink-wrapped palates. The employee that checked me out kept back a bag of items. I noticed the bag was missing at the front door and went back to retrieve the items. I noticed there were several bags lined up at the register. Looks like she does this regularly. I will never go to this Petco or any other Petco again. Chewy.com all the way!!!! I have been buying crickets for my tarantula here for years until recently. I came into the store to buy a few crickets for my tarantula, and was told by the manager(Colton) that they no longer sell one or two crickets, and that I'd have to buy a bag of crickets. They now pre bag in groups of 40,60,80,100 crickets. I don't need that many crickets, and I'm assuming most pet owners have one or two pets and wouldn't need that many either. This made no sense to me. My tarantula only eats about 2 crickets every week. I'm supposed to buy a bag of 40 but I only need 2. How wasteful! read more

I love my PETCO!! We visit this Petco about twice a month. I am always impressed with how well the staff is informed on new products. Staff are friendly, helpful without being pushy or obnoxious. They continuously offer healthy product options, a pleasant shopping experience & the staff appears to take pride in their service & store. The rewards program is fantastic! This location has a grooming area, a pet training program, and on location visiting clinics. We had an incident with our furr baby, it was after hours for our vet & while waiting for the vet to call us back we called Petco to see if they had an on location vet available. While there wasn't one available that time of evening the manager did offer to advice us, explaining he was not a qualified technician but would provide any knowledge he could that may help. The manager gave us great information, calmed my wife with appropriate information, and was very helpful. We are very thankful for the great service. read more

They get a zero but i can't add that. We set up our first grooming appointment. They contacted an old number that we didn't know was still in the system and we have not had for at least 5 years and they were upset by the person's communication. I had given them our current phone number. They never contacted us at the phone number we provided. When we arrived to the appointment, we were told what happened. We were shocked and told them how sorry we were but we had no idea. We wondered why we received no confirmation or reminders. Despite all this, they refused to accept our dog (we drove 40 mins to get there) and they further told us when i called back that i could book w someone else but that my husband is not allowed to drop off the dog!? He had nothing to do with this. He only brought in our dog to drop off. His phone is entirely different and they don't believe us that it was not us communicating! Just horrible. Don't go there. Do not get any fish here. My friend and I both got bettas yesterday, and they both died within 24 hours of bringing them home. I am in no way an expert with Betta care but that was not my first and all mine in the past have lived for ~2 years. When I went to exchange my dead one for a new one almost half the bettas there were dead. The employees were rude and not helpful, they tried telling me it was my fault the original fish died. read more

I can honestly say that I was surprised to know that the people who work at this Petco were not only friendly and helpful, but coming here was such a pleasant experience. We just moved South from New England and we drove the whole way with our 10 month old Lab. Needless to say, she was very stressed and was shedding so bad. You could literally grab a handful of her fur just by petting her. My poor baby!!! I called this Petco and scheduled an appointment. Beware!!! I'm giving one star for kindness and no more stars because of the lack of professionalism. Please don't subject your animals to this overcrowded corporate environment. My standard poodle is 13 years old and has always had high anxiety but nonetheless has been able to be groomed by professionals who were sufficiently trained. Theresa severely lacked confidence and knowledge with this particular breed. She lopped my girl's pom tail hair completely off rather than re-washing it because she started going into heat and blood got on her tail during the grooming session. Her ears were still full of hair and her crown was extremely choppy and didn't have any sort of finished look about her after 5 and 1/2 hours at this establishment. Anyone who is familiar with this breed will agree that this is unacceptable. They gave me a first timers discount and I left an ample tip (because I know the job is thankless) but I cannot trust the team here. An apology and admitting she was not trained for this particular breed would have given them another star. Do yourself a favor and keep scrolling for another grooming option. read more

The staff are also very knowledgeable about certain animals & show care & concern for your needs when dealing with your pet. I have been very satisfied with the people that work here. Went in yesterday on crutches to get a 25 pound bag of food, not one single employee (except one when I was almost at the register) offered to help me. I had three employees look at me while carrying the bag on my shoulder. At the register the woman was nice enough to scan the bag while still on my shoulder. The thing that really upset me was she did not even offer to have someone take it out to my car like Pet Supermarket does and they have fewer employees. From now on I will be shopping at Pet Supermarket due to their customer service and the fact they offer a free bag of food after ten bags. We buy a bag a week for our Min Pin, Lab and Great Dane. read more

I picked up my 8 yr old Bichon after waiting almost 7 hours for a cut and wash only to have a rude staff member lecture me on how I had been cutting my dogs hair too short and it was nearly injuring her. This was a surprise to me because I don't cut her hair, she is always taken to a groomer. I thought nothing of it and checked out. When we got in the car I noticed her bottom was brown and I assumed she hadn't been washed well. When we got home I had to wash the dogs bottom and immediately upon touching the brown area on her bottom my dog yelped and blood started to run from her anus down her legs. I soon realized the brown bottom was dried blood and my dog had been nipped excessively hard by the trimmers directly on the anus. I had to hold pressure for fifteen minutes to stop the bleeding. Fortunately, a costly vet visit wasn't necessary and the wound scabbed over. However, my dog bled from her anus every time she pooped for like a week because the scab kept opening up. So, if you want to pay 60$ for a rude lecture and have your dog ripped open by careless individuals that attempt to cover up their mistakes, then this is the place for you. Bought my dog some treats there today. Don't buy the "Old mother Hubbard oven baked dog biscuits" there. We brought them home, poured half into our empty treat jar and in the process noticed what looked like fuzzy white mold on one of the treats. Didn't think too much of it and threw out the one. About 1 hour later we noticed about 20 bugs trying to climb out of the sealed treat jar so went back to the half empty bag of treats and saw they were infested with tons of small bugs. Not ants. Not sure what they were but they made nests in the indentations of the treats. We brought them back to the store and they gave us a refund but I'm pretty grossed out by the whole ordeal. read more

A friend recommended that we give our local Petco grooming facility a try. Our regular groomer was overbooked and we couldn't get an appointment for over a month!!!! I was reluctant to try someone new since we'd been using the same groomer for 13 years. I am happy to report that we were super pleased. Our dog looks great. She was not stressed when we picked her up and the ladies we interacted were very sweet and kind. We had such a great overall experience that we've made the decision to utilize the grooming go services at Petco from here on out. read more

Petco done a great job of grooming with my dog. She is now just too big for me to handle in the bath tub so I have requested them to bath her. She loves to go and get bathed with all the other animals - kind of a meet and greet day for her.
