Took my 6 month puppy here for fundamentals training class. Meghan is very patient and understanding of every dog's needs and owner's goals. She does an excellent job of explaining and demonstrating the tricks before allowing us time to work with our own puppy on what we learned. The first class covered very basic skills of sit and recall, which my puppy already knew, but working in the store aisles added a level of distraction to strengthen the skill. But would have been nice to introduce skills the puppies didn't already know. I also wish they would allow some time before or after the class for the puppies to greet each other so they're not frustrated or overwhelmed at the beginning and get some socialization. Meghan did let us know that it's up to us owners to do greets prior to entering the training area and we are welcome to do it prior. My puppy was exhausted after the hour and learned a lot. We got one for my dog and they didn't mention PA law requires two more. They also forgot to give us documentation. There are better options. read more

Make sure you ask to see your dog BEFORE you pay and give a tip. Groomer was clearly not well trained. Took our Labradoodle there for grooming recently and was very unsatisfied. He is a very anxious dog and I am sure he was difficult to work with. However, they should have called me if this was the case. Instead, he had wounds on his head and nose from rubbing up against the crate they had him in. He really got shaved not "groomed". See before and after pics. read more

I recently moved to Bethel Park from Northern Virginia (one of the most expensive areas of the country) and I needed to have my shihtzu groomed. I chose the typical package online, $52, took her in for the appt, and was told it would be $83 due to her hair. This was $30 MORE than grooming in No VA. I've been having shihtzus groomed for 14 years and this was the first time I've ever been told it would be more for her hair. Fast forward to today, I took my yorkie in for a grooming. Once again, I chose the $52 normal grooming as I always have for him. I was charged $83 due to his hair. This store is either scamming (my opinion) or not being truthful with its pricing online at booking. I took two completely different breeds with very different hair texture to be groomed and both required the extra $30 charge for conditioning - no matting, tangles, etc. I was told if I didn't want to pay the extra $30, he would have to be shaved. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. read more

I am very unhappy with Petco Grooming in Bethel Park on Fort Couch Rd. My Shih Poo has been getting groomed there for 13 years. His groomer Gina was promoted and is no longer at the shop. My dog is old and has a mass on his lung which he has has since at least last May. Now Petco Grooming who has known about this issue since last May is asking for a Vet letter before they will cut his hair, two days before his appointment. I understand that they do not want me to sue them if anything happens, but they said his previous groomer was breaking the rules. Now I have to try to get this letter for them. It may cost me hundreds of dollars to have another X-ray taken, just so they can put the blame on the Vet if anything happens. After 13 years of being a loyal customer, this is so unfair to me and my dog! read more

I brought my Frenchie Louie into the store to see about changing groomers to this location. Luckily I walked into the retail side first. As I neared the grooming section (it's walled off from the rest of the store) I noticed a young woman being very rough with a small white dog. There were muffled voices of her yelling at the poor animal. I thought it best to make my rounds in the store portion and check back to see if things calmed down. When I entered the grooming portion a short time later, I asked to speak to a manager. A bigger lady came to the front and impatiently asked "what is it?" I explained that I noticed an employee being very rough with a dog she had tied onto a table. She immediately raised her voice and said "you aren't coming in here to start shit! We are short staffed and I'm not dealing with you today" Needless to say I was a bit shocked by her response. I attempted to speak with a store manager but was told none would be available anytime soon. I feel like this place isn't right for my pup and others should know of the dangerous behavior here. When I called the corporate number they wouldn't continue to speak with me unless I gave them my 'pals card information'. Apparently you need a membership to complain. Patron beware. read more

I do NOT recommend the grooming department or Petco store on Fort Couch road in Bethel Park, PA. The service in the grooming department is unorganized, they have consistent problems with online booking, they don't seem to have an understanding of their own booking system, and the grooming manager is difficult and rude. My mother, who is in her late 70s took in my 2 dogs for a recent appointment. She said, there were 3 groomers focusing on a computer at the counter in front of her. She was struggling a little bit with my dogs in the public area and so she asked the groomers for help, but was told by the manager, that they (all 3 groomers) could "only help one person at a time." I had discussed the possibility -ahead of time with the manager- that my mother might need a little extra help when dropping off my dogs. The manager, at first, was kind enough to say she would help out. And so, my mom was surprised by what she perceived as, the manager's rude response, and reacted to it, questioning it. The manager apparently had a change of mind about helping and was offended by my mother's nervous request for help and her reaction. The manager argued with with my mom escalating the situation. My mom told me that the manager's response and attitude was so offensive that she should have been fired immediately. The rude manager ultimately refused to groom my dogs. Realizing the situation had escalated much too far, my mom apologized to the rude manager in order to settle the situation down. But the manager humiliated her and refused to take my dogs for their nearly $200 appointments. The manager offered no apology of her own. Of course my mom contacted the store manager who did not intervene to accept my dogs either. My mom said, the store manager seemed more afraid of the grooming manager than he was concerned for his elderly customer (my mom). My mom said it was one of the most disappointing and humiliating experiences she ever had. read more

This review concerns the grooming department. i had taken my short hair dog, an Amstaff, to get a bath and have his ears, teeth brushed and nails done. when i went to pick him up they had cut his hair! I never game them permission to do so and I believe the only reason they did so was to be able to charge me more money. i will no longer be taking any of my three dogs there any longer. read more

My dog had a grooming appointment that was initially schedule for 12/15 then PETCO canceled and rescheduled it for today, then I bring my dog to this place, the pet groomer, Amanda, was clearly new and unknowledgeable, and misunderstood what I said to my dog and took it for that he's on calming treats. I said that he wasn't and she stated they couldn't take him. I asked to see management and the Assistant Manager, David, went with whatever the new pet groomer stated and denied me services! In my experience, Petco employees are ALL animal lovers. This site is no different. I went in looking for a soft alternative to a post surgery cone for my male cat. Employees were clearly busy moving large incoming pallets of dog food. When I asked about the cone there was no hesitation: the guy jumped off the pallet mover and walked me to the location. Not a big fan of chains in general, Petco really seems like a local shop. Its a pleasure shopping at Petco and I'm thankful for the convenience of their well stocked inventory. read more

This is a really good Petco! I have a Pomeranian and we have to take him to get his backside clipped about once a month. Petco makes this easy because its a walk in service, which is really nice. We never really had a problem with the groomers until this last time. I took him and the lady that did him was rude and she did not seem like she cared about my dog at all. Normally it takes about 15-20 minutes max to do him as all they need to do is clean up his backside and do his nails. This time it took over an hour, which was very frustrating to me. HE came out and his backside looked like a q-tip. All he needed was cleaned up a little, but this lady cut the fur all along his back legs and I didn't care for it at all. But this being the only problem in a year is pretty good. He loves the pigs ear he gets after too. read more

This Petco resides in a drowsy, modest part of Bethel Park just past South Hills Village. The store was clean, organized, and particularly well-stocked with ferret supplies when we made a stop yesterday. Moreover, the employees were helpful and courteous. What I dig about this Petco is that it's integrated within a residential neighborhood. A row of small, cute houses sit right next to it along a tree-lined asphalt street. How convenient would it be to have a Petco as your neighbor? read more

You get 5 stars from this yelper because of your employee, Tyler! He stuck by our sides to help us choose plants and a filter and brand new, upgraded tank for my daughter's red eared slider turtle. Her turtle is super excited about her new habitat because of Tyler's help. He told us about sales on tanks, what that species of turtle would like to have in it's tank for play, and answered all of my several questions. Visited the Bethel Park store on 2 January 2019 for a particular brand of dog treats. Found only one package in the size I was looking for. It was priced $12.00 higher than my last purchase on-line from another source. Since I made a special trip to the store I was deciding whether to pay the Petco price when I noticed the expiration date on the package was July 2018. At least four other smaller-sized packages on display also had expired dates. One could wonder if that really matters for dog treats, but if it doesn't, why is it on the package? I left Petco without buying anything. (P.S. I did leave a donation of new dog toys in the box at the front of the store. Other donations will probably be the only reason I'll visit again.) read more

Recently bought a fish after being reassured that even though the fish was isolated it was not a quarantined fish and was not ill. After bringing this fish home all but 2 fish in my tank died. Every day I lost another fish due to the inept staff at this location. After all that I asked if there was anything they would be willing to do to help and was repeatedly asked for a phone number so someone from the store could talk with me and not once has anyone even tried to call. So not only is the quality of this "pet" store terrible so is there customer service. If you want to keep your fish for more than a few days buy them from a knowledgeable pet store or at least a store who values their customer. I am not quite sure they (the groomers) know what to do with longer haired dogs. When our sheepdog-mix goes, he usually ends up just getting a wash, with a bit of a trim. However, despite verbal requests not to, that trim usually takes too much from around the eyes for a poodle-ish look. When it comes to mats in fur, their only solution seems to trimming down to half an inch, a look not becoming of our dog. i am sure they do decent jobs, just not with longer haired dogs. read more

We've been taking our dog to Petco to be groomed for over 10 years. Beginning last year, Petco informed us that we needed a letter from our dog's vet stating that she has a medical condition, then granting permission for her to be groomed. No issues there whatsoever. Fast forward a year and we were told we needed an updated letter. Same vet. Same letter, just updated. We were a bit surprised with how rude and curt the grooming staff became when we handed over the new letter. Something written in the letter magically now made it impossible for them to groom our dog. I get corporate policies, they don't want to be sued. But the way that we were treated after years and years of loyalty was just shameful. And we couldn't even see the original letter to prove our point that nothing had changed because they threw it out. We were referred to a competitor and ushered out. So much for customer loyalty. I at least hope they treat the animals better than they treat their human customers. Needless to say, after this experience, we will never return to Petco. read more

I do love this Petco! They have a grooming center, training area/classes available. The back of the store has precious cats that are up for adoption, and I have been told that they get adopted rather quickly. Anyway. The store also has fish, a few reptiles (not snakes), and mice, and such. Fur baby toys galore! The store is clean. I will say, their staff is very friendly and helpful. However, they do need to increase their staff. The volume of customers vs staff isn't very good. The staff is so very willing to help every customer they can and walk them through the store for every thing they need, but I can see how that would be overwhelming for them when so many people want or need help. The prices here are more expensive, but they have a perks program and coupons that help with that. They also have a coupon book they give out to new fur parents. Because the staff is so nice and the place makes my dog happy, I am a returning customer. read more

When I called to ask about the availability of frozen mice for my new pet; I was stunned to receive the answer from the very first person who answered the phone! (Score) Asking more in-depth questions, she forwarded me to someone with more knowledge and top-notch customer service. He was extremely thorough in his information and recommended when I come to the store I ask for one of their herp specialists (by name). When I did go to the store; the specialist spent a good deal of time explaining his experiences with me and providing great recommendations for my situation. I can say that I had low expectations for what I would recieve as far as advice and knowledge and these folks completely blew me out of the water with their friendliness and helpfulness. read more

This place is filthy and stinks. Layers of dust on shelves and products. Dog pee is just ignored until it dries on the floors. Ignorant and rude employees who when I check out and say "thank you very much" I get back a "yup". Not a "you're welcome" not a "have a nice day" not a "please come again". It doesn't just happen once, it's consistent. Aggressive dogs whose owners have no control over them are being trained in the isles so I cannot walk my sweet timid senior dog near them to look at their products. They really just don't seem to give a damn about their store or their customers. I keep trying to go back and give them another chance, but today was the last time.
