UPDATE: The Cuba Bakery and Deli has moved from its previous location by the Railroad tracks to…read moreHighway P (Exit 208 off Hwy 44). They are now located across from the Midwest Truckstop and between the Super 8 Motel and Huddle House restaurant. I haven't been able to visit the new location yet, but will update this review as soon as I do. The review below is for their old location. Sandwiches on thickly sliced homemade bread, meats and cheeses right from the deli display case and dill pickles with a lot of crunch. What's not to like? I haven't found anything yet. This is a hidden gem in the city of Cuba, MO. Located along the railroad tracks in the middle of town it doesn't offer quaint views, but the food is amazing. Sometimes you just need a "Sammich" to hit the spot and the ones you can order here hit hard and fast in a very good way. You grab a ticket, fill out what bread/toppings/sides you want; hand the ticket to the lady behind the counter and, while you wait for your sandwich to be made, go off and pick a drink. There's fresh lemonade, a large variety of juices, coffee and tea. You can dine in or take it to go and you can also pick up sweet or savory snacks while you are there. The last time I ordered I had turkey (piled high), swiss, tomato on white bread as well as a bag of chips, a pickle and a coffee for less than $8.00. The bread was fresh, the turkey and cheese delicious and even the coffee was good. Try that at that other sandwich place.....well, I won't go there. Opening hours are 7 - 5:30 Tuesday through Friday, 7 - 3:00 on Saturdays and they are closed on Sundays and Mondays.

My husband and I came up for Garlic Fest and walked around town. We found this not-so-hidden gem…read moreand had to go in because of the biscuits and gravy signage outside. This is my husband's favorite breakfast. The biscuits and sausage gravy were amazing, in my husband's expert opinion. ( having consumed this dish almost everywhere) I had 'just avocado toast' (their no egg version) and it was very good. I suspect the bread was freshly baked and not from a commercial bakery. Now let's talk about the important thing. The coffee. They have a coffee, hot or iced called the 'Sweet Bourbon Brew'. I figured I was unlikely to get freshly roasted coffee with bourbon syrup from the nearby distillery anywhere else and went for it. It is AMAZING. I would come back just for this. Now, the restaurant itself. Live music on a Saturday morning. Kitschy, eclectic decor that was obviously quite intentional, and a DOLLY PARTON CORNER that has obviously existed for quite some time. Their motto appears to be a Dolly Parton quote. "If you see someone without a smile give them one of yours". Yes. It's that kind of place. They also seem to be attempting to control their carbon footprint.

Bourbon Café and Coffee Saloon is a charming little local café with an inviting, homey atmosphere…read morethat makes you feel welcome the moment you walk in. It's the kind of place you instantly know you'll want to return to. This was our first time here and we were go glad we made the little trip down to Bourbon, MO! We ordered the bacon and egg panini, and it was cooked perfectly. Whatever homemade seasoned butter they use deserves special recognition--it added so much flavor and made an already great sandwich even better. Of course, the dessert case was impossible to ignore. Everything looked incredible, and choosing was no easy task. We finally settled on a pecan brownie and a sea-salt chocolate chip gooey butter cake slice. Both were fantastic, but the gooey butter cake completely stole the show. Hands-down, it was the absolute best gooey butter cake I have ever had--and I've tried many from plenty of bakers over the years. This single slice may have changed my outlook on life. They've set the bar so high that I honestly don't know how anyone else could top it. Warmed up just as the owner suggested, it was melt-in-your-mouth perfection with a tender, flaky crust and incredible flavor. Absolutely phenomenal. We will definitely be back again--and you should go too!
