SFAMC is a great place to take your fur babies when they need medical attention. I've been to…read moreother vets in SF and they never could answer with a diagnosis nor prognosis. Never was sure. Always guessing. We are happy taking our lil Rozy to SFAMC.

The nightmare started on Thanksgiving day. All the sudden our 15 1/2 year old cat Ziggy stopped…read moreeating and drinking all together and would violently vomit every couple of hours and out with only a small amount of bile every time. After a sleepless night, we called SFAMC at 6:30 am and decided to take him in for emergency care. Melissa who answered the phone and worked at the front desk was an angel. She was most friendly, compassionate, understanding and helpful throughout our visit, A tech took Ziggy him, took his vitals and told us they were normal. And we could either wait 3 to 4 hours to be seen by an ER doctor or made an urgent care appointment for the following day which we decided to do. We took Ziggy home and he started to drink and eat again so we thought the crisis was over and called SFAMC a few hours later to cancel the urgent care appointment scheduled for the following day. In the meantime, we have started to give Ziggy CatLax as we suspected that he might have hairball that's causing his vomits. Murphy's law, Ziggy started to vomit again after midnight a couple of times. So we called SFAMC again 6:30 am and was told best to call the next morning to try to secure another Urgent care appointment for Monday. Over the weekend, Ziggy started to vomit less and eating and drinking more. By Monday morning when we saw Dr. Richard Chu, Ziggy was almost back to normal. Nonetheless, we wanted to make sure there was no other problem rather than hairball that caused him to vomit. We have seen many doctors at SFAMC over the years and not Dr. Chu. So we were a bit worried. But it turned out Dr. Chu was the most caring, patient, compassionate, thorough and thoughtful doctor we have ever met there. Dr. Chu took the time to listen to our concerns, review Ziggy's patient history, recommend a care plan and gave us cost estimates on various treatments options. At the end , we decided to have Ziggy's blood drawn for senior panel analysis, his blood pressure measured, and gave him fluid for dehydration. We decided also to table abdominal ultrasound and echocardiogram after reviewing the blood test results. Dr. Chu called after 6:20 pm the same day to let us know that the majority of the blood test results had come back normal and to check on Ziggy. Dr. Chu also emailed us the day after, late in the afternoon and on his day off, to check on Ziggy again and also to let us know that the cardio pet pro BNP test results just came back it was slightly higher than last year and not the cause for Ziggy's gastrointestinal issues. WOW! Talking about going above and beyond! We were moved and speechless. It has been two days since we took Ziggy to see Dr. Chu and Ziggy is doing great now! Eating, drinks, sleeping well and no more vomiting. Thank goodness! As pet parents, there is nothing worse than seeing your little one suffers and feeling helpless and out of sorts. THANK YOU !!! Dr. Chu, Mellisa, and SFAMC.
