We…read morewere made aware of SF SPCA's spay and neuter services when I called my vet requesting for an appointment to get her spayed. They recommended to go to SF SPCA instead since the prices were way more affordable than what my Vet was offering. My husband ended up calling the clinic after I gave him the information (I was dealing with a terrible migraine, so I was unable to call them myself) and he had the appointment all set up. We were able to schedule our girl to get spayed the following day. We did have to pay a $50 deposit for the service, and then upon arrival it was around $200 for the spay service. I did ask them to microchip her (the staff in front mentioned it would be free), but I don't believe that was done during her appointment. If you do happen to book online, there is a $50 deposit and I believe the service is $325. It wouldn't hurt to call and ask if you could negotiate on the price. I ended up taking a Waymo here with my cat and I have to say that there should be parking around the area if you come early enough. The spay and neuter clinic is located inside the building on the right (past the black gates) - it is on the 2nd floor. If you're still lost, there are front desk staff that can assist you. There is a table out in front where you're able to check in your pet, and then wait until the initial exam is done with a vet tech. They ask several questions about your pet, if they are up to date with their vaccines, and any concerns you have. They also ask if you want to get your pet flea/tick medication or if you want their nails trimmed. I did mention that my cat was in heat and that she was already up to date with her vaccinations. I did not need to bring her pet records, but it was helpful to have on hand. Otherwise, once you're done signing the consent forms, they will take your pet to the back to perform the surgery. Drop off for cats was from 7:30 AM to 8:00 AM. Pick up time for me was 4:30 PM. I came there a bit past 4:30 PM and there were a ton of families waiting for their fur babies to be brought out. It did take another 15+ minutes to have my cat discharged, but the vet tech/vet did explain the medications that needed to be taken post surgery, and they also provided a surgery cone for your pet. They do not recommend post-surgery suits, donut cones, or anything of that nature (I tried with a post-op flower crown and my cat ripped it off immediately while being super out of it). Definitely a smooth experience, although they are super high volume and may not get to complete all the things you wanted to have done. I'm grateful they were able to take my cat in since because she experienced her first heat, and I was trying to get her spayed sooner. Grateful to the SF SPCA team!

Not only is she patient with the animals and with us she takes the time to make sure we understand exactly what is going on with our animals. She gives us examples of how to use the knowledge in our daily life. She even sometimes draws diagrams for us so we can understand what's going on. I never feel rushed. My dogs are always comfortable around her and we always leave feeling like we have tools in our toolbox, that will help us Make sure our dogs are living their best life. So many hospitals these days are having their doctors work so hard, pushing more clients and that it often feels that the doctors are busy and stressed, which is not their fault. Sadly it's getting harder to find good care. However, Dr. Perman has never left that impression of all the times we have seen her over the years. Thank you so much Dr. Perman and thank you for being a great place for us to have our animals be seen and get the care they need and never feeling rushed or like we don't know what's going on with our animals. in addition, we recently adopted a young puppy who was totally obnoxious during the visit and she was so patient and even commented on his good manners, which is hilarious because he was freaking out. haha! At some point she had a stroke and from the day we picked her up we saw neurological decline. They told us it was pancreatitis and sold us over priced dog food and antibiotics. We never got any confirmation that pancreatitis was correct. She continued to decline over the next two weeks until we were forced to put her to sleep. She could have had years left. One day in their care changed all of that. Do not take your fur family here.

If you factor the cost of the office visit fee alone, the annual membership pays for itself after 2 visits. That said, what I didn't like and why I didn't continue my membership is that once you're "in" I felt like they recommended unnecessary tests, procedures, etc to ratchet up the bill. And to that extent, the costs are expensive compared to other vets in the area. This location made me do an unnecessary retest of my dog's ear infection just to get an ointment to treat it even though we had just done the test at Nopa. So crazy and unnecessary. And the cost of the ointment was crazy expensive compared to what you can get if you order it online so highly recommend getting a written prescription and ordering it yourself unless you need it right away. In terms of a clinic comparison, Russian Hill has better vets vs the Nopa location. It's a little bit further from me but was worth the trek. We saw Dr. Boyle and I thought she was very knowledgeable. I also love the 24/7 chat in the app - I found that to be well worth it more than the access to the clinics! The vet techs are great, give lots of advice so you don't have to go see a doctor for every little issue. I'll be interested to see how the business model changes (if it does) now that they were recently acquired by Chewy.

The last SF vet I went to did not listen to my requests regarding how to handle my cat (she is a bit fiesty, but does much better at the vet with slow movements and a Churu for distraction). Presidio Way was so accommodating and kind to my girl. They quickly got results back on her lump & after it progressed, were able to get us in right when they opened up this week. My cat is my best friend and I was so nervous about bringing her in for her procedure. With the vet's warmth and reassurance, I felt completely comfortable leaving her in their care. I think this spot will be my new vet, based on this experience alone.

I was a founding member of Dr. Treat San Francisco from August 2022 - May 2026 and referred many neighborhood dog owners to this practice over the years. Following billing errors after my dog's March 2026 dental cleaning, I conducted a comprehensive audit of invoices, clinical summaries, lab results against the complete clinical record. What I found was deeply concerning and the issues I uncovered extended well beyond billing. Clinical concerns identified: - Anesthesia monitoring failures during a dental procedure under general anesthesia, including multiple alarms with no recorded intervention - A sedation procedure with no monitoring records - Laboratory tests billed but specimens never submitted to the laboratory - Vaccination records inconsistent with clinical documentation resulting in missed doses and unnecessary revaccination - A clinical encounter producing a prescription for an antibiotic-resistant infection with no follow-up plan or corresponding chart entry Billing concerns: - $1,178.80 in billing errors corrected only after my independent audit, none identified proactively by the practice - Additional $1,389.18 in billing errors with a denied refund request despite documentation sourced from the practice's own records I filed formal complaints with the California Veterinary Medical Board in June 2026 (Complaint 4602026002298 and 4602026002309). Additionally, Dr. Treat is no longer an independent practice. It is operated by SVP California LP within the Mission Pet Health/Southern Veterinary Partners network based in Birmingham, AL. This ownership change was not disclosed to members who auto-renewed annual memberships after February 2025. Current and former clients are encouraged to request complete clinical records and cross-reference them against invoices and visit summaries. Under California law (16 CCR §2032.3) records must be provided within 5 business days of a written request.

My dog has been in the care of Avenues Pet Hospital for 3 years now. It can sometimes take a while…read moreto be seen for non-urgent stuff, such as the very first new client appointment and the annual exam, but otherwise my dog gets seen quite quickly as things come up (usually within a few days, and via email or phone when I have concerns but am not sure if they are worth an appointment). They did not allow people inside for a long while due to Covid safety restrictions, but we can now go inside to wait in the waiting room, and accompany our pets during their appointment. It seems silly for other reviews to complain about this when it was for a valid reason and not an arbitrary policy. The only times I can't accompany my dog is when he comes in for his regular nail trim and gland expression as an out-patient - this is done in the back where pet owners aren't allowed. FYI I get his nails done at the vet bc he has particularly long blood vessels / quicks in his nails, so I feel safer about it being done here, even though it's a roughly-done trim and I file them smooth at home. The vets are kind and I always feel like I'm getting their honest assessment. Front desk is also always very helpful. For reviews that mention they're rude - it can depend on the person tbh, but if anything I think some can be less warm than others, and I would *not* say at all that they've ever been rude. I think they're really busy nonstop and are doing their best to get through patients in an efficient manner -- and that can sometimes be interpreted as being a little cold, when really it's just being neutral. As a society we tend to think women are "cold" when they're not overly warm and are otherwise just being normal & neutral, yet don't think that of men doing the same. So let's check our gender bias, alright? One word of advice that I learned the hard way - most medications are substantially cheaper at Chewy or Costco, so ask them to send out the prescription! The vet office has zero problem doing that and it's never awkward. It's not a perfect system since Costco doesn't have everything, and Chewy takes some days for delivery (i.e., doesn't work for meds needed the same day). I don't say this as a knock against the hospital, as I think this is common practice for vets and helps keep the lights on. I instead say this as a heads up, because I didn't know this for the longest time.

Things went seriously sideways during his final illness this year at age ~13: lung cancer that had metastasized to his bones. The main issues: * We were told over email that he was terminal. * We responded to the email with questions, as the vet encouraged us to do, and the email was never answered. * When we took him for an appointment around the time of his diagnosis, we discovered once we got home that he had a cut from a procedure they did and was dripping blood on the floor, and we had to turn around and bring him back, which was upsetting for all of us, and they behaved like we were inconveniencing them. * When he ran out of pain meds post-diagnosis, when my dog was clearly in pain/deteriorating, we asked for a prescription renewal, and they refused unless we came back to see the vet, who had no appointments for two weeks. That's when I finally switched vets. They never checked up on my dog after we stopped going. They did, however, manage to send a checkup reminder email yesterday for my dog -- who they gave about six months to live over six months ago -- which didn't refer to his cancer at all. I get it's automated, but a vet practice should know to be mindful of situations like this. Never again.
